Come to the outdoor paradise of Canaan Valley, West Virginia! Heaven's Hideaway is located inside Old Timberline, adjacent to Timberline Resort, with easy access to two downhill ski resorts - Timberline and Canaan Valley - and one cross-country resort - Whitegrass Touring Center.

The valley is surrounded by state and national forests and parks for a wealth of wilderness experiences, including the Monongahela National Forest (amazing hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking), Blackwater Falls State Park, Canaan Valley Institute lands and National Wildlife Refuge (great for birding and boating), and the Dolly Sods Wilderness (entrance to Dolly Sods is 1/4 mile from our house at the top of Cabin Mountain - go blueberry picking in the summer and enjoy the tremendous view of the entire valley, and the unique flora and fauna in the Sods backcountry). There are also two large lakes within Timberline for canoeing - Guests have full lake privileges and canoe access.

Heaven's Hideaway is located on 2.5 acres of forested mountainside. While the house is adjacent to Timberline Resort for easy access to skiing, it also provides a wonderful sense of seclusion. The house features a large great room with stone fireplace, and tall windows providing an open view of the mountainside below. A spacious and private outdoor hot tub overlooks the forest, and a large deck surrounds the house with ample room for outdoor dining and relaxing. The house sleeps 10-12, with a king bed in the master bedroom, queen beds in the second and third private bedrooms, and two double-bunk beds in the fourth bedroom. An additional fold-out bed is available for larger groups. It has all the amenities of home, with a fully stocked kitchen, laundry room, toys, games, videos, books, and even a piano!

The house is equipped with free broadband cable modem and WiFi connectivity. Bring your laptop and "work" from the deck or hot tub!

Come in the winter for the skiing and snowboarding, come in spring and summer for the hiking, biking, camping, fishing, boating, and relaxing by the mountain streams, and come in fall for the stunning foliage.

*Please Note - due to the house's location, 4WD vehicles are required in the wintertime.

  • We have been vacationing in Canaan Valley for the past decade, with the last 3 years spent at Heaven's Hideaway (3 times for a winter ski trip, and once last summer for an extended family get-together). After staying at many places around the valley, we have fallen in love with this house and plan to return again in early fall. The location in Timberline is perfect, with convenient access to the ski resort, but one of the things we love about Heaven's Hideaway is that it offers great privacy compared to other houses we have stayed at in Canaan. The large fireplace room is great for everyone to hang out in after a day of skiing or hiking in Dolly Sodds, it is very spacious and open, with large windows opening onto the mountainside and plenty of room to play games or just lounge around. The kids also love playing on the piano, although it's a bit out of tune. You can see the Timberline lakes and the nearby mountaintops through the trees during the winter, but my husband and I prefer the summer foliage, which really makes the house feel cut off from the world. Wild deer and turkey walk right past the rear deck, adding a bit of extra fun to outdoor meals during the summer. We were pleasantly surprised to find free WiFi available in the house this winter! Not many units in Timberline seem to offer this to their guests, and we only discovered it by accident this winter. In the past we had to go down to Rt 32 for wireless access, so having broadband WiFi in Heavens Hideaway is a major plus for us!
