Now for the story.....The “Lucky Duck” is so named because we feel that we are just about the Luckiest of Ducks on earth to be the owners of such a Glorious property. You will feel the same to be a guest.
First it is very Important for you to know is that the house we are renting to you is NOT A HOUSE THAT WE LIVE IN DURING THE YEAR, THEN MOVE OUR "STUFF" OUT OF IT WHEN YOU WANT TO RENT, like so many of the homes for rent in Cooperstown.......YUK!
This was built just for guests like you and is immaculate and will be your very own private retreat when you are here. It is like a hotel but so very much better.
Christmas 2007, we purchased this wonderful property from a man who had once owned the New England Patriots. Sitting on 50 wonderful acres, is a lovely house but there was also a beautiful old stone based barn.
The barn was in disrepair and as we felt it would have been a real shame to lose such a wonderful structure. So in 2008 we decided to take almost all of it down and rebuilt it into a new a stunning 4000 sq ft 5 bedroom 4 bathroom residence.
With 5 bedrooms and 4 baths,(full description below) and huge living spaces, we have invested meticulous attention to detail in this property while succeeding in maintaining the integrity of this historical building, and creating a wonderful space for all to enjoy. Some of the original barn exterior wood now adorns the walls of the interior living and family room.
Enter the fabulous glass front doorway to a breathtaking view of the lake and gardens as seen thru the floor to ceiling glass windows directly across on the other side…….quite an entrance.
A balcony framed totally in glass allows the beauty of the land and nature to flow right in.
25 ft high, hand honed beamed ceilings, huge floor to ceiling windows throughout allowing for amazing views of the lake, lush perennial gardens, forests, and wildlife. What more could you want?
The living room faces the lake and features, again, two huge floor to ceiling windows, a gas fireplace with a massive cedar log mantel sofa and chairs, a 50" flat screen TV, wireless internet service and an old sugaring off sled that makes quite a statement as the coffee table for this fabulous area.
Dinning at the 10 ft dining room table, under an old wagon wheel that has old lanterns creatively converted into modern lighting, you will experience a cross view of both sides of the property.
The lake side, the gardens in the morning on the pasture side, the fabulous sunsets at night.
The family room area has an 8 person poker table with lots of room for a second game table, yet be decided on....
A lovely cedar paneled laundry room, HUGE, with a washer, dryer, coat room, wet sink and cupboards completes the house.
Outdoors welcomes you with a 7 acre perennial fringed lake.
The lake is stocked with large and small mouth bass, perch and carp that practically jump on your hook. We have a dock where you can fish from or you can stroll around to the far side and walk the board walk to Meditation Island.......
If you like you can also walk or jog the whole perimeter of the lake on a dirt path. State land boarders our property so hiking and exploring the woods is a must do.
Wildlife abounds, deer, wild turkeys, George the blue Heron, red tailed hawks, ducks and birds galore, so bring those binoculars. Everything to see and enjoy…..nothing to hurt you.
We guarantee you won’t be bored.
To book our home we need you to email us your home address and we will discuss sending you out a contract. Your deposit is 50% the weekly rental rate with the balance due 90 days before your vacation date.

As an individual who was involved in the 2011 Hall of Fame Weekend events, July 23 Awards Ceremony in Doubleday Field and July 24 Inductions of the latest HOF Class, I shopped for a rental property that would meet the diverse needs of family members and friends that wound up totaling 16. A great time was had by all. We had a minor early arrival problem on July 22 and Kate and Mike solved that for us. We rented both the Lucky Duck and Master's House. Six of us wound up staying the entire week. The accommodations were first class. Two grandchildren fished their brains out. The Lucky Duck made a memorable weekend and beyond even more memorable.

We were in town with our son's baseball team, and we stayed at the Lucky Duck for a week in August 2011. The location is great as it is only about 5-10 minutes away from the Dreams Park baseball complex. The home is quite large, and the grounds are loveley. It was nice eating breakfast on the porch overlooking the lake. There was plenty of room for our group of 10, and because the rental was split between two families, the overall cost was comparable to staying in a hotel, but we had so much more space. It was great having our own refridgerator and the ability to cook some meals at the house. Kate and Mike provided fishing rods for us to use with the kids, and the kids enjoyed walking around the lake to the bridge connected to a small island. There is a nice big screen TV in the living room, and they have Direct TV service that provided more movie channels than I knew existed. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the house which was very nice. Kate and Mike live right next door, so they checked in on us from time-to-time to see if we needed anything. They were very friendly and accomodating owners, and we will definitely stay here again when we travel to Cooperstown.

Kate and Mike and The Lucky Duck absolutely MADE our trip to Cooperstown. It's a memory our entire family with carry through the years. You couldn't ask for anything more! The setting as gorgeous and the home is equipped with every need you could possibly have. If anything, the web page understates the accomodations and setting. We're hoping it's available when our next grandson's baseball team makes the trek to Cooperstown Dream Park. We were 3 generations of happy, happy folks because of The Lucky Duck.

We just returned home from a week in Cooperstown. We had the most amazing time. Our stay at Lucky Duck was one we will never forget. We loved everything about it. Kate & Mike made us all feel so special. The first day the wireless internet went out. Kate and Mike worked for several hours trying to get it up and running again. They were dedicated to fixing this for us. Lucky Duck is absolutely immaculate on the inside and out. The attention to every detail was noticed and the renovation outstanding. It is so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the porch with our morning coffee and every night sat out front to watch the thousands of lightening bugs that lit up the field across the street and the millions of stars in the sky. Our children enjoyed fishing in the lake out back and playing endless games of wiffle ball in the back yard. I loved the walking path around the lake and the nature was wonderful. Even though the pictures online look great Lucky Duck is better than the photos! I would recommend this property to anyone....it gets an A+ in my book. Treat yourself it is definitely worth it!

This is an absolutely spectacular property. The site is beautiful and the building itself is gorgeous -- an old barn that's been turned into a spacious, open, airy home with great views. The bedrooms upstairs (and the one on the main) are very comfortable. Best of all, since it's only recently been redone, everything is new and spotlessly clean (a key factor in a rental for us). We stayed for a week during the tournament at the Dreams Park in Cooperstown. It's only 10 minutes away from the park but you feel like you're living on your own farm with a lake right out back. The owners are delightful and happy to help with any requests. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone I know headed to Cooperstown!

What a wonder place and what a wonderful time we had.......the kids fished every day and we enjoyed sitting on the dock watching them. We couldnt have chosen a better place to stay......when we saw where some of the other team families were staying we knew we have found a real find. We will be back...........

The photos don't do the property justice. The open floor plan of the lower level is open and airy, the view off the back deck is beautiful. There are many small details that add to the charm, from the painted figures in the bunkbed room to the exposed beams and the clawfoot tub. The owners were very accommodating and friendly, quick to respond to requests for help and just an overall pleasure to deal with.
