Part of a tiny Hamlet, “Le Pigeonnier “is an 18th Century Pigeon Loft with character, history and charm. It has been lovingly restored with beautifully exposed beams in the top floor bedroom. The living room has a fireplace and original stucco décor on the ceiling. The view from the front terrace overlooks the rolling wooded hills and valley. It lies in a “Parc Naturel” and is therefore in a quiet, calm location. It has it’s own large garden planted with local shrubs and herbs and surrounded by a typical low stone wall. Relaxing evenings can be spent sipping wine, having some of the wonderful local specialities and enjoying the spectacular night sky! During the day, should you enjoy walking, you can explore the numerous tracks beginning right at the front door. The uncontaminated region of the Ardèche makes it an ideal place to undertake walking tours at every level. There are over 6000km of paths that await you, 600 km of which are labelled GR, 650 km are coded Countryside GR and about 4500km of walks. Furthermore, during the course of the various seasons, numerous outings that are based on specific themes are on offer: to cite just a few examples: medicinal plants, geology, botany many others. You could also simply choose to go for a 30 minute walk down through the woods and enjoy a swim in the Ardèche River! Depending on the season and the water level, you can even lie on the beach along the shore! Should canoeing or kayaking be an activity you enjoy or would like to try, the Ardèche Region is a corner of Paradise. With approximately 100 different rivers to explore having a good time is a given thing. The Ardèche River itself varies from level VI to I and therefore everyone can find a stretch suited to each individual capacity: from impressive waterfalls for the experts to ideal conditions in which children can be introduced to the sport! There are plenty of guides available and the equipment can be hired on the spot, just a couple of miles from the house. The area of the Ardèche is also a well-known for the numerous possibilities it offers for climbers: 2000 itineraries located in more than 60 sites. Should two wheels be your preferred means of exploring the countryside, the small country roads of the Ardèche are ideal for cycling enthusiasts. You can criss-cross the area in every direction through various surroundings: Forests of Pine and Chestnut, following the course of the Loire River (yes, it has it's source in the Cévennes!), along the Rhone River or simply drifting through the numerous vineyards and small towns along the way. There are over 3000 different itineraries of varying degrees of difficulty and length available in some 150 Itinerary Packs you may purchase at the Tourist Office in Vallon Pont d'Arc. They are either based on length or on themes and contain all the necessary information to make your Tour a success.You might also like to discover the region by joining the "La Roue Libre Vallonnaise" cyclists who generally organize two weekly outings that leave from the square in front of the Town Hall in Vallon Pont d'Arc , 7 kms away.The major biking event during the entire year is the famous "Ardechoise" a race in Mid June that attracts hundreds of participants from all over. Another understandably very popular venue takes place in Mid-August: the Cycling Tour of the Vineyards from Aubenas to Ruoms! From Le Pigeonnier it’s possible to take many different day trips by car to places such as Avignon, Orange, Nimes, Aix-en-Provence, the famous Aqueduct of Pont du Gard or any of the numerous medieval villages in the vicinity. Another beautiful drive will take you along the “Route des Vins” through some of France’s most renouned vineyards and to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and it’s wine-cellars. For a complete “change of scenery”, why not drive to St.Tropez and the Cote d’Azur ?
