Romantic Hide-Away in West Beach - Steps to Sand and State St.

Year Purchased: 1998

Why the Owner Chose West Beach

We initially purchased our vacation cottage because one of our children was attending school in this location, but we quickly fell in love with this beautiful city and all of the cultural and outdoor activities that it offers.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We love the Spanish Colonial charm of our cottage, our private garden with orange trees and our quiet neighborhood. We especially love the fact that we can walk everywhere! We take daily walks along East and West Beaches to Shoreline Park or out on Stearns Wharf. We love to walk to our favorite restaurants, Brophy Brothers and Enterprise Fish Company. We often walk to the movie theaters on State Street or to the Farmer's Markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays. We walk to the Santa Barbara Sailing Center, where we can rent a sailboat by the hour or take whale watching cruises. We walk to our Athletic Club to work out, to East Beach to pay beach tennis or volley ball, or to West Beach for swimming or tennis. We often picnic at Shoreline Park. We love the proximity of Santa Barbara City College and the opportunity to take classes there. We also love all the cultural events offered at the Lobero and Granada Theaters and other venues accessible by foot. It is truly a dream come true to spend time in this city.

Owner's Map of West Beach

We live in Vail,Colorado where we work as ski instructors and volunteer as mountain hosts and tour guides. We love to escape to Santa Barbara during the "mud seasons" in the spring and fall, where we enjoy scuba diving, sailing, beach tennis, hiking and wine-tasting. Prior to retiring in Vail, we both practiced law in Denver, CO. Our adult children continue to live in Denver and love visiting us in both Vail and Santa Barbara. Jim & Bobbie Ruh

We have stayed here for 3 years, and love it so much we keep on coming back. The location is terrific-2 blocks from the beach-and the place is full of charm. Sweet decorating, wonderful private backyard, and space for guests. Couldn't ask for anything more. Plus the landlords are very responsive whenever a (rare problem crops up.

December, 2009 My husband and I celebrated a family Christmas and our 40th wedding anniversary at the Ruh's wonderful beach cottage. The location is fabulous, the house immaculate and the owners so helpful they even put up a Christmas tree for us before we arrived. We hope we can come again!

We spent a lovely November day here. The cottage is beautiful and very comfortable. One of the highlights was the cozy fireplace. The owners have put a lot of thought and love into this cottage. We will definitely be back~

We met our daughter and son-in-law at the house for a long weekend, and it turned out to be the perfect mini-vacation. The walk to the beach and the art and crafts along the beach was so nice. We couldn't get over the smell of the orange and jasmine blossoms that wafted into the house! We would definitely plan a return trip.

This cottage is very well located close to everything. The house has a feeling of a home and not of a rental property. We have enjoyed our week in SB. Next time we come for a visit we definitely will try to rent it again.

We had a wonderful stay at the terrific property. It is extremely well located, and each morning we walked down to the beach. The property is located in a beautifully-maintained neighborhood, and it is only about 1 block away from the beach. In addition, the coordination and arrangements with the owners were both well and easily handled. My wife and I both recommend this property. Enjoy Santa Barbara and thank you.

My husband and I stayed at Casa Capricho for the Thanksgiving week. It is the perfect place to stay in Santa Barbara. There is a reason why the old Potter Hotel was sited a block or so away. It is an easy walk to the Amtrak Station, Stearn's Wharf, downtown, the Farmer's Market and the beach. The house is a perfect little Spanish gem with everything you need. We cooked a 17 lb turkey in the oven and shared a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration by the fire with our son and his family. Everything you need is here including a wonderfully landscaped small yard and patio. We picked oranges from the backyard tree and enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice every morning.California at its'best. Santa Barbara's sights are easily accessible by walking or taking the free downtown trolley. Take the train and have a great car-free vacation. Arrangements with Bobbie were professional and easy. This is a great place to stay in Santa Barbara and this from a couple who lived there for 12 years.

We spent a week in Santa Barbara for our son's wedding this fall. The weather was perfect and we loved staying in the Ruh's West Beach Cottage. It is cozy and cute with a wonderful back and side yard. There is nothing like picking oranges from your own tree and having fresh squeezed juice for breakfast. Everything is within walking distance. We can't wait to return!! Becky and Jay Trullinger, Portland, OR
