Hip, Cool, and Luxurious Mid Century Modern Alexander Home
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
This Palm Springs Mid-century Palmer/Kriesel designed butterfly roof home built by George Alexander in one of Palm Springs first Mid-Century Modern neighborhoods called Racquet Club Estates. The open floor plan features concrete floors, high vaulted beam ceilings with clerestory windows and glass sliders overlooking the new kidney shaped saltwater pool and attached 6 person jacuzzi/spa.
It is important to note that we are a full 1,000 square feet larger than the traditional Alexander home because we enclosed the breezeway adding onto our kitchen/dining room and extending our master bedroom/bathroom/office.
You will marvel at the dramatic mountain views from this spectacular 11,000 sq ft lot and understand why we call this little piece of paradise ''RENDEVOUS LOU''.
As you enter the house into the foyer, you will be impressed by the floor to ceiling painting that leads you into the ''great room''. The concrete floors are softened in the living room by a large cream shag rug with furnishings designed by Futurama and embellished by our funky 50's collection of Blue Blenko glassware. The bedrooms have desert hued low pile carpeting. The living room seating faces the original block fireplace which is commanded by a stunning commissioned piece of art we call ''LOU'', who has become our mascot. His image repeats in various spots throughout the property...see if you can spot him.
To the right of the great room, is our sparkling 1960's lucite formal dining room table for six; it's a real showpiece. The entertainment ''vibe'' continues with our open kitchen boasting granite counter tops with mosaic glass tile back-splash.
A large mobile island faces the kitchen's overhead HDTV flat screen where you can sit on comfortable leather bar stools to watch a great sport event or just keep the chef in the family company. The kitchen is complete with stainless steel appliances, a full line of Cuisinart-blender-juicer-coffee maker, a Nespresso machine and all the cooking utensils needed for any gourmet. You will also find complete place settings for 8 in both plastic for outdoor dining and ceramic and glass for indoor dining all complemented by vintage starburst patterned flatware.
The first bedroom is furnished with a platform queen bed mattress purchased specifically for fibromialgia sufferers and incredibly comfortable for all. This room includes an overhead cable flat screen TV, 70's Italian travertine marble tables, 60's bedside lamps and a fur throw to add a little panache. Just come on in and drop your luggage on the Jonathan Adler bench.
The smallest bedroom hosts Case Study sofas that become twin beds along with a fabulous Panton 60s Bubble Mirror, a flat screen TV, a kitschy Arne Jacobsen chair and the biggest lamp you've ever seen! Check out the closet where we keep board games stored.
The Master bedroom features a floor to ceiling white leather headboard which flanks a king-size platform bed facing the flat screen TV/DVD with surround sound. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower for two and a walk in closet. The master also features a chaise lounge sitting/office area with a fax/printer. The sliders lead you to the putting green. Once you step outside, you may want to walk toward the fruit trees and sit by the raised ledge gas fire pit where jet flames dance over a bed of turquoise crushed glass. Enjoy the mountain views while practicing your putt.

We just returned to Canada after spending 5 weeks in this incredible home. Bob, the concierge, met us upon arrival and showed us around. We walked into the house, and it felt just like “home”. It is within walking distance of Albertson’s and Stater (grocery stores) with a Starbucks inside the Albertson's. The kitchen is fully equipped; the back yard is phenomenal and very private with many mature palm and citrus trees. We did not heat the pool, as it got warm enough by the end of our stay to take a dip and cool off. The spa heats up in about an hour and we used it a few evenings. The fruit trees in the garden provided us with fresh grapefruit daily (WOW). Although the interior of the house is great, we felt that the incredible back yard made our stay a wonderful experience. Apart from the occasional plane arriving or departing from PSP airport it was exceptionally quiet. There is a multitude of restaurants in Palm Springs (check Trip Advisor, they are usually accurate in ratings). We enjoyed hiking the Indian Canyons, the Tram, and especially Joshua Tree National Park (an hour's drive away). We woke up every day and admired the view of the mountains through the clerestory windows in the kitchen/living room. We are already planning to return next year for a month (can’t wait).Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We booked this house for one month based on the price and the pictures. The pictures were true to the description of the property and we felt we got great value for our money. The neighbourhood was quiet and safe. We were met at check in by a representative of the concierge company who walked us around and helped us with getting familiar with the house. I can't tell you how impressed we were with that service - they were always a phone call away if you needed to ask a question about the property. To wake up every morning and see those spectacular mountains through the clerestory windows was so calming and at the same time invigorating. The back yard was an oasis - you could always find a spot to sit, be it sunny, sheltered, scenic - there were many different areas with all kinds of seating. We picked beautiful lemons and grapefruit every day from the trees and with all the kitchen and bar gadgets, we were able to make whatever we wanted. You need a car, but golf, restaurants and shopping were easily accessible and every drive in Palm Springs has a mountain view with palm trees or cactus. We usually ate one meal out a day and were able to find some great places for all our meals. For breakfast we liked Jakes, Elmers and Pinocchio's on Sundays with all you can drink champagne! Lunch was usually at a golf course: Cimarron was delicious as well as Sammy G's downtown patio. Dinner offered some good early dining or happy hour specials (great after a hard day of shopping or golf!) - Matchbox, Lulu's, Johnny Costa's and of course the margaritas at Las Casuelas were delish! All vacation rentals should do what Rendezvous Lou does - leave some items stocked in the house for cleaning or in the pantry. It's really a great help when the cupboards aren't bare upon arrival! A great stay - we really miss it!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

During the last week of October of 2012, a dear friend and I arrived at Rendezvous Lou and we remained for the entire month of November, and for a week or so into December. I can say without exaggeration it was one of the best, most relaxing times I have ever had, which while this was due to a confluence of events and circumstances, Liz's home was the foundation upon which this amazing experience was built and it could never have been so awesome without such a beautiful home to stay in. It has a superb style and the right energy for you to have an amazing vacation. Most of the time when you rent a home on HomeAway/VRBO and the pictures are spectacular, there is invariably some degree of point of service let down when you actually arrive. This was not the case. The pictures are 100% accurate. The home concierge is very attentive without being intrusive and always a call away for any issue you might have. Liz herself - the homeowner - is an absolute dream to deal with. The house is exactly where you want to be in Palm Springs, very close to the downtown/Palm Canyon Dr. area. I have to admit that I accidentally forgot to leave the keys upon departing (with sadness), and I have actually procrastinated the return of these keys, which I am certain is due to some sort of subconcious inability to let go...Ok, now I am going to go and mail those keys back... I will be returning to Rendezvous Lou as soon as possible. THANKS SO MUCH!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

What a lovely property! It was absolutely perfect for our month-long family getaway (comprised of myself, the hubby and our Swedish Vallhund.) We swam, bbq'd, made cocktails, and wiled away the hours and days with music and reading and all of our other leisurely activities. Throw in a couple of Thursdays at the museum (free!), a few local outings for drinks and restaurants, some treasure hunting at the local vintage and thrift store shops, and a library card (also free with a CA drivers license), and it's heaven in the desert. I haven't yet mentioned the fabulous decor of the house which inspired me to focus a little more on my own mid-century/Scandinavian roots. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. And Bob and Liz, as others have commented, are wonderful to deal with. We already miss Palm Springs.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I was so fortunate to stay at this gorgeous rental for a few short days in early December with my college age son and one of his friends. The house was gorgeous. I loved the attention given to architectural details. The pool and spa were gorgeous. I also loved the cactus garden. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and the music system a special touch. The location of the house was excellent as well. I highly recommend this rental!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Just wanted to follow up and thank both Liz and Bob for a wonderful week at Rendevous Lou! The house is fantastic. I immediately felt at home here. I really enjoyed the choices made with layout, furnishings, decor, lighting etc. We absolutely loved soaking in the hot tub and gazing up at the spectacular mountain view. The other pleasant surprise was Bob, the concierge, who really saved the day on a few occasions during our visit. He was professional and accommodating and provides a valuable service. We definitely intend to visit R Lou again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The property was GREAT! Hip and cool just our style. We hardly left the house once we arrived. It was nice to have our own resort style vacation, with a pool, and jacuzzi with all the comforts of a home. The girls and I had a fabulous time. We returned to LA refreshed and most importantly relaxed. Liz and Bob were wonderful and thorough during the whole process (booking to arrival.) I will definately be returning to this new found hidden Oasis. Thank you AgainRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This was our first long term stay in Palm Springs, and"Rondevous Lou" fit the bill perfectly. The home is roomy, TOTALLY equipped, and the pool area and backyard are outstanding. Lots of amenities--TV's everywhere, speakers in all rooms plus outside, fresh citrus from the trees, a putting green...I could go on and on. We'll be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers.

Five of us plus 2 dogs spent an incredible weekend at Rendezvous Lou in November. Aside from the stunning weather, the house was super cool (we must have taken 50 pictures of the decorating and landscaping alone). The outside bar, fire pit and putting green are excellent additions to a plethora of lounge chairs and dining areas and a lovely pool and hot tub. The kitchen is perfect for fixing a group dinner (and the grill worked, too). The views of the mountains from the kitchen and the pool/backyard are incredible. The *only* thing I would recommend, at least for November, is to pay the extra to heat the pool which we did not do. We had the hot tub which was nice, but the pool water (even for the bravest of us) was a little chilly -- we got in but mostly to cool off and hop out. The concierge was extremely nice and flexible -- he checked us in late on a Thursday night and gave us a few extra hours in paradise on Sunday. Plus, he had great restaurant recommendations. Love it. Stay here.Recommended for: Pet owners, girls getaway.

We found the house to be amazingly beautiful and the design and artwork was so cool. I really appreciated that it had a fully stocked kitchen and bath for cooking and the pool. Robert, the concierge, was very helpful in recommending great places to eat and drink. I must say for my 40th birthday, it was spectacular and truly the best birthday thus far. Thank you and we will return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: I started my love affair with Palm Springs back in the 80's when I was a student at UCLA and spent long weekend getaways here. The desert climate and my interest in Mid Century architecture cemented my yearning to own a home in this little jewel-box of a city. I looked at potential homes to purchase for a good 10 years before I found 'Rendevous Lou'!
Why the Owner Chose Racquet Club Estates:
LOVE the restored mid century designed homes throughout this neighborhood...one of the best!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is one of the special Alexander homes where you can still see the mountains while INSIDE the house right through the clestory windows facing the mountain range. Stunning.
