Our Dream House
Quinta La Merced was designed by a Spanish architect, following the "Cortijo" style and was built using traditional techniques and materials. Located in the friendly little village of La Merced on the outskirts of Quito. Many of the homes are weekend getaways.
La Merced is known for its volcanic thermal baths, a 5 minute walk. Tiny town square with quaint church, small shops and internet services. Nearby is Sangolqui, (15 mins.) known for its market on Saturdays -- lots of fun! Great shopping, restaurants and movies are in San Rafael (10 min.) and Cumbaya (20 min.).
The property includes the main house and a caretaker's cottage. Its gardens are full of blooming plants year round. The barbecue area includes Argentine-style grill, bread oven & prep sink. Strolling paths wind through formal plantings & fruit trees to the tennis court, pond and greenhouse.
First Floor: A beautiful arched door leads to a courtyard with fountain & hammocks. Doors from patio lead to the living and dining rooms with a fire place. These rooms are designed using exposed eucalyptus beams and carrizo ceilings. Eclectic decor includes sari & dupioni drapes, estate finds, colonial-style paintings and textile items . French doors to the courtyard. The kitchen is large & equipped with fireplace, modern appliances & island w/5 stools. Yet another fireplace makes the kitchen cozy. 3 bedrooms (double, queen and single) and 3 bathrooms complete the first floor.
Second Floor: Glass double doors in the courtyard lead up tile-accented stairs to the upstairs. This level includes an ENORMOUS master suite (king size bed) with sitting area and balcony. The master bath has a large dressing area, his and hers vanities, separate shower and a soaking tub overlooking the grounds. Another bedroom (single bed) with en suite full bath and yet another bedroom with a pair of single beds. Also upstairs is a very large library with fireplace. All rooms have a fireplace.

- Charcoal BBQ Grill: Incredible imported Argentine parrillada (commercial grill)is contained in a specially constructed "hut" complete with bar sink, ample prep area, and outdoor bread/pizza oven. Caretaker will be happy to assist you in preparing the grill, or even prepare your barbecue! Has outlets and lights for nighttime entertaining.
- Deck/Patio: House is constructed around a tiled Interior patio with hammocks, potted plants and soothing center fountain. Covered walkway around patio contains entry to first floor rooms.
- Balcony: Wrap-around balcony is accessed from master bedroom.
- Gazebo: Contains Argentine grill, prep sink and bread/pizza oven. Contains picnic table and seating. Lighted for nighttime entertaining.

- Mountain View: Amazing views of surrounding Andes Mountains, including snow-capped Mt. Cotopaxi.

- La Merced is famous for its thermal pools -- heated by volcanoes. There are a number of thermal pools, both in La Merced and in nearby villages. La Merced is a perfect base from which to explore Ecuador. World-class mountain climbing (Cotopaxi & others). Indigenous villages, colonial Quito (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

$1000/week for up to 6 guests(1 week minimum).
Discount available for bookings greater than 3 weeks.
Daily cleaning service & breakfast service available, inquire at time of booking.
Surcharge applies for guests 7-10 at $40 per week, per guest.

Beautiful, relaxing -- the changing mountain scenery, the friendly people -- Ecuador is a gift! Horseback riding on volcan Ilalo, swimming and watertoboganning at the many thermal pools, exploring the villages; getting away from the workaday routine make staying in La Merced a refreshing and rejuvenating experience.
