The North Gate House is a beautiful, new vacation home just completed in 2008. The house has approximately 2,160 square feet of space on three levels.

There are many special touches throughout the house from the soaring 21 foot high ceiling of the great room to the solid oak, wide plank flooring, to the custom glass paneled deck. From the wall of windows in the comfort of the great room or outside from the deck, you will have unobstructed views into Yellowstone where herds of elk and bison can often be seen grazing. Big horn sheep are often viewed walking the ridge behind the house.

The house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a large capacity dishwasher, above the range microwave and beautiful hickory cabinets. There is central heat and air with individual controls for each floor (a must for high desert summers where temperatures can reach the 90's at times), HD satellite televisions, high speed internet access, high efficiency washer and dryer, a Renai hot water system (you'll never run out of hot water)and a bathroom on each level.

The lower level bedroom consists of one set of bunk beds, futon, a television with built in DVD player and an Xbox system with 15 games and 4 controllers. The main floor bedroom has a double bed and televison/DVD player for viewing movies and the upper level bedroom a queen size bed with a High Definition/satellite television system. (There is also a queen inflatable mattress onsite if needed and another High Definition/satellite television system with DVD and VCR player in the great room)

Situated in the quaint town of Gardiner, you will be able to find anything you need. There are many cafes, restaurants and numerous shops, a grocery store, post office and bank. There are fishing guides, rafting companies and outfitters that offer horseback riding both in and outside of the park.

The fishing in the area is wonderful and inside the house you will find instructional videos on flyfishing plus a book guiding you to the different waters in Yellowstone which are all just a short drive away. There are two Blue Ribbon streams within a mile of the house, the Yellowstone which is 3 blocks away and the Gardiner River approximately 1 mile.

In the winter there are many available activities such as ice skating at Mammoth Hot Springs (6 miles from the house), snowshoeing in Yellowstone and the surrounding area or cross country skiing. ADDED NEW FOR 2009: For our guests who wish to explore Yellowstone in winter on a more personal level, we have added 4 sets of snowshoes to the house, available for their use. There is snowmobiling with rentals available in and out of the park, down hill skiing at Bridger Bowl (94 miles away) or Big Sky (175 miles) and our favorite - wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley where you will likely see herds of bison, elk and possibly some of the Yellowstone wolves.

After a long hard day of activities you can relax in the hot springs of Boiling River on the Gardiner River (3 miles away) then come home to the luxury of our new house overlooking Gardiner, The Northgate House.

Yellowstone North Gate House

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Gardiner

We chose to build a home in Gardiner due to its proximity to YNP and because we simply liked the town where old is mixed with the new. We looked at properties on each side of the park but kept coming back to Gardiner for it's color and character. We were blessed to find the property to build on just one mile from the North Entrance to Yellowstone.

The Unique Benefits at this House

From the comfort of the house or out on the deck you have unobstructed views into Yellowstone. In the winter, we have sat in the great room and watched bison that come down from the higher elevations of the park to graze. Elk and mule deer pay frequent visits to the house. You also have a great view of the town of Gardiner. Due to its location, you have the convenience of being in walking distance to town but also privacy as the house sits on a larger lot and backs up against the side of a mountain.

When building our house we kept in mind the things we liked (and disliked) about vacation homes we had rented while traveling and built from that perspective. The comfort of our guests is truly of most importance to us.

Owner's Map of Gardiner

We live in Oklahoma where we have a ranch and business but spend as much time as possible in Montana. It has come to be our "other" home and the place we plan to retire someday. We love spending time in Yellowstone, a place we consider to be one of the most beautiful places on earth as it is ever changing and most amazing.

    • We feel so lucky and privileged to have found possibly the best, most luxurious and comfortable place to stay in Yellowstone! Rick and Cheryl could have not been more hospitable and attentive hosts, particularly as we were visiting from the UK. They think of absolutely EVERYTHING and more besides!!We loved all this home had to offer, including daily visits by elk and deer. In Yellowstone we saw a bear and celebrated with a fabulous soak in the Boiling River. So if you love Yellowstone as much as we do, treat yourself and stay here - you won't be disappointed. Thanks Rick and Cheryl for all you did to make our holiday so memorable - we can't wait to return.

    • You know, we simply cannot say enough wonderful things about the house OR about the owners! The house is BEAUTIFUL - the pictures are fantastic, but in person the house is filled with gorgeous wood floors and cabinetry and has so many cozy details - we were at home right away! We have three teenagers (age 14, 15, & 16) and even THEY were completely impressed with the house (and you know how hard teenagers are to impress!). Our first morning there we saw a Mama Elk and her babies along with some deer - and we saw wildlife everywhere our entire time there. The house is just a short drive from the park, and it was nice to have such a lovely home waiting for us each night after sightseeing all day! We had to cut our visit short due to a medical emergency with my husband, and Cindy and Rick were incredibly kind about it - and even called to see how he was doing. This is the BEST vacation - even cut short - that we've ever had, and I cannot recommend the Northgate House enough!!

    • There are no words to describe the North Gate experience—it is truly fantastic. Rick and Cheryl are fabulous hosts and have thought of every single detail. You will truly want for nothing in the home and nothing has been overlooked—technology, amenities, basic supplies, ultra comfort, and amazing layout. The views from the deck are truly breath taking and we were fortunate enough to see 4th of July fireworks during our stay. The photos on the web are very good, but to see this place in person is unbelievable. This is our first experience with VRBO and based upon our stay at North Gate, it will not be our last, although the standard for future stays has been set very high and we will always compare our time at North Gate to any other VRBO rentals. Yellowstone is within sight and the town of Gardiner has most everything one could need for a pleasurable Yellowstone vacation. Look no further than this rental for your ultimate Yellowstone experience! Many thanks to Rick and Cheryl for allowing us into their home—you guys are the best! The Duhons; Cypress, Texas

    • We have rented many very plesant vacation homes in the past but this one will most certainly be at the top of the list. Rick & Cherl handle everything in a personable way. They make you feel as if you are visiting friends. The house provides everything you could possibly need or want. It's a little like country in the city. It's is a short drive both to shopping and to the park, but rural enough to provide entertainment both from the horses in the corral next door and the deer and elk who stroll thru the area trying to steal a tasty nibble from the neighbors garden. A thoroughly delighful home away from home! Thank you for sharing it with us.

    • This was our first experience renting a house while on vacation, and the truth is that the bar has now been set extremely high! The Northgate house is so attractive, inviting, and well-appointed that we might be spoiled for life! We loved everything about this home. It is perfectly situated just outside of Yellowstone, with a gorgeous view from the deck, wildlife everywhere, and plenty of sunlight streaming through the huge windows. The house itself is so clean and beautifully decorated...like a model, except with all the warmth and special touches of a real home. Cheryl and Rick were wonderful to work with, as well. We can't say enough good things about our 6 day stay at the Nortgate house, and neither can our 3 kids. We're so thankful we found it! If you're looking for an exceptional home to stay in while visiting Yellowstone, search no more. This is the one!

    • Thanks, Cheryl and Rick for letting us stay in your beautiful home. This home is by far the most well-equipped that we have ever had the pleasure to stay in. We really appreciate all the conveniences you provided, particularly since we flew in from Virginia and didn't have to worry about picking up detergent, etc. My kids had a great time, too and also loved the house. We saw mule deer, antelope and elk in the yard and bison, coyote and even 2 wolves at dusk inside the park. Thanks again for everything and we'd love to stay again if we ever find ourselves in your neck of the woods.

    • We spent New Year's Eve and Julie's 40th. When we arrived a huge elk was laying beside the house. Entered a nice warm and inviting home after a long drive. We went to the park each day, after watching the mule deer and elk feed each morning. Gray, cloudy, gorgeous... Yellowstone with an empty road, WOW! All the comforts of home when we returned. The pizza from Outlaw was awesome the second day. Thank you for allowing us to spend time in this beautiful home. We appreciated all of your communication. We were able to make those reservations for that wild-life tour.

    • We had a wonderful stay at North Gate House in late September. The house is beautifully maintained and is very well equipped. It's location at the north gate of Yellowstone is really convenient. We appreciated the guide books that they had in the house as they were really helpful in our adventures around Yellowstone. We would highly recommend this rental property

    • 9/25/08 My comment for this house is, if you are planning a trip to Yellowstone, stay at Northgate House. The house is new, and just beautiful. The country deco in the bedrooms and bath go so well with the theme of Yellowstone.Rick and Cherly were great people to communicate with. They thought of everything that you would need for your stay at the house. I have rented a lot of houses from Vrbo, and you need not worry about being dissappointed about renting Northgate House.
