The North Gate House is a beautiful, new vacation home just completed in 2008. The house has approximately 2,160 square feet of space on three levels.

There are many special touches throughout the house from the soaring 21 foot high ceiling of the great room to the solid oak, wide plank flooring, to the custom glass paneled deck. From the wall of windows in the comfort of the great room or outside from the deck, you will have unobstructed views into Yellowstone where herds of elk and bison can often be seen grazing. Big horn sheep are often viewed walking the ridge behind the house.

The house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a large capacity dishwasher, above the range microwave and beautiful hickory cabinets. There is central heat and air with individual controls for each floor (a must for high desert summers where temperatures can reach the 90's at times), HD satellite televisions, high speed internet access, high efficiency washer and dryer, a Renai hot water system (you'll never run out of hot water)and a bathroom on each level.

The lower level bedroom consists of two twin/single beds, a television with built in DVD player and an Xbox system with 15 games and 4 controllers. The main floor bedroom has a double bed and televison/DVD player for viewing movies and the upper level bedroom a queen size bed with a High Definition/satellite television system. (There is also a queen inflatable mattress onsite if needed and another High Definition/satellite television system with DVD and VCR player in the great room)

Situated in the quaint town of Gardiner, you will be able to find anything you need. There are many cafes, restaurants and numerous shops, a grocery store, post office and bank. There are fishing guides, rafting companies and outfitters that offer horseback riding both in and outside of the park.

The fishing in the area is wonderful and inside the house you will find instructional videos on flyfishing plus a book guiding you to the different waters in Yellowstone which are all just a short drive away. There are two Blue Ribbon streams within a mile of the house, the Yellowstone which is 3 blocks away and the Gardiner River approximately 1 mile.

In the winter there are many available activities such as ice skating at Mammoth Hot Springs (6 miles from the house), snowshoeing in Yellowstone and the surrounding area or cross country skiing. ADDED NEW FOR 2009: For our guests who wish to explore Yellowstone in winter on a more personal level, we have added 4 sets of snowshoes to the house, available for their use. There is snowmobiling with rentals available in and out of the park, down hill skiing at Bridger Bowl (94 miles away) or Big Sky (175 miles) and our favorite - wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley where you will likely see herds of bison, elk and possibly some of the Yellowstone wolves.

After a long hard day of activities you can relax in the hot springs of Boiling River on the Gardiner River (3 miles away) then come home to the luxury of our new house overlooking Gardiner, The Northgate House.

Adding to MJ's post from ND, we were the other 1/2 of the family with them staying at the YNGH during our vacation 2012 and wow, what an awesome experience. The house is absolutely perfect. It far exceeded any vacation stay that my entire family has ever experienced and that I can ever recall in my 40 years of family vacationing. The floor-plan is perfect for multi-families, it was as clean as a hospital surgical room, fully stocked with any amenities or necessities that one would need and the experience just kept coming during our week-long stay. The house is beautiful, the scenery and view is absolutely breathtaking, the overall location was perfect, and our family is already talking about future visits. Rick & Cheryl left NOTHING spared and they truly know how to provide a space with absolutely everything for anyone looking to stay here. This is truly a 5 star stay and there are not enough characters allowed in this description as I could write pages and pages of praise. My children (14 & 9) loved it so much, they literally wanted to stay at the house as opposed to venturing away. The house has HD televisions, video game consoles with an ample library of games to play, an entire movie and book library, Wi-Fi Internet, Movie streaming from Netflix, satellite TV, area attraction brochures and information, and you can literally arrive at this house with nothing but your suitcase of clothes and be perfectly content. There are baby monitors, bassinets, hangers, drawers, alarm clocks, free long distance telephone service, a barbeque grill, fully stocked kitchen (including a snack and beverage basket for park outings), and anything and everything you could ever need or want (the list is endless). If Rick & Cheryl were in the market to sell, I would buy this place in a heart-beat and it's truly an abode that one can label a home away from home. The wildlife was amazing, the beds and furniture were very comfortable and rest-worthy, everything was so clean, it was quiet and relaxing, and I simply cannot say enough in this description to describe our absolute praise, comfort, and desire to stay here again! Rick & Cheryl definitely did their homework on this stay and it was absolutely amazing for all of us and we can't wait to return and found ourselves missing it immediately after we left! If you have ever heard about something that seemed "To Good To Be True," this isn't it..this is the real deal and I assure no disappointments. The Schreaders, Perham MN!

Our family recently returned from a long planned trip to Yellowstone and reservations at the Northgate House. We were "blown away" by this lovely home. It was an ideal set up with great bathrooms, well stocked kitchen, laundry room, and comfortable bedrooms. It was in turnkey condition. We actually never bought a meal in a restaurant as the kitchen was supplied even with basic condiments to supplement what we brought from home. We took picnic lunches into the park and had breakfast and suppers in the gorgeous great room, dining room. We enjoyed watching the blacktail deer walk right up to the house and even saw a doe and her twin fawns climb the steep rocky incline 10 feet behind the main floor bedroom window. Rick and Cheryl were a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. This is the second time we have rented a home from homeaway.com and all is exactly as represented. A wonderful experience. The Christopherson's, Wahpeton North Dakota

I am very familiar with Yellowstone, but took my family for the first time. I have stayed in numerous places within the Park, in West Yellowstone, and in Gardiner. I was a little nervous about this rental becuase the listing (as they often do) make it sound to good to be true. However, this house presented a MUCH better experience than advertised. The owners do everything to ensure the house is immaculate, and that your stay is a great experience. I truly appreciate every aspect of the house and the whole trip. I have already booked to stay again this September 2012. The only thing I don't like about this house is that I don't own it myself.

Secluded but still within walking distance of town, the North Gate House is the ideal rental home in Gardiner, MT. The owners have gone out of their way to build and furnish a lovely home and stock it with every possible need for visitors. The house is built on the hillside overlooking the small town of Gardiner but is only about a mile away from the north entrance of the ultimate national park in the country (Yellowstone). The huge windows and deck facing the town and park were great for wildlife viewing, bird watching and photography as the house is surrounded by views of animals and birds including deer, elk, and even golden eagles flying by. You can easily see Roosevelt Arch from the deck. It is always nice to rent from nice people and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Satellite TV and high-speed internet helped us keep in touch with what was happening in the rest of the world. The dishes, utensils, pots, and pans were high quality and were a pleasure to use. Dishwasher detergent and laundry soap and softener for the HE washer and dryer were provided. We did stop at Costco in Bozeman so stock up on fruit, salads, and chicken but the small grocery store in town is well stocked with ample staples and a surprising array of "gourmet" foods. There are stairs to the main floor from the lower (entrance) level, which may cause a problem for someone with difficulty walking or climbing. Their library of reference books and videos on Yellowstone National Park was great with a variety of books on hiking, fishing, wildlife, birds, mammals, geology, etc. Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay for nature lovers and photographers.

Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Our family has been waiting for this trip for years. It was so nice to come home to such a lovely and comfortable house, after a long day in Yellowstone. THANK GOODNESS for the baby gates! My 13 month old son had such a good time running around the house. He loved watching the deer walk by and playing in the rocks. This vacation will be one we will remember always. P S Thank you for such a well stocked house! We forgot the shampoo!

We loved staying here at your North Gate house. The snacks were very thoughtful as we got into town late & everything was closed and it was the best stocked house we have ever stayed in. We got to see lots of wildlife in Yellowstone: 10 bears all together, 2 wolves, golden eagle, bald eagle, pronghorn, elk, coyote and lots of bison. The kids had the time of their lives. It was so nice to come "home" each night after a long day in the park to your comfortable house. We hope to return someday.

We had an amazing stay at the Northgate House. It was our best Yellowstone trip to date and for the first time we saw wolves! We love the view from the deck and it was great to look out at the Arch while indulging in all the delicious huckleberry patches we could find. Thank you so much. We will be back

We can't thank you enough for the use of the Northgate House. My wife said it was perfect. Its like home. This vacation ranks way up there. The park is obviously unbelievable, rafting and horseback riding were outstanding, and all the time we knew we were "coming home" to the Northgate House. The wildlife we saw elk, bison, bears, deer coyote, wolves, hawks and eagles were just unbelievable. Friday night i was cooking on the grill and a 8 point blacktail deer walked within three feet of me every time i opened the grill. I guess he wanted a cheese burger. My wife and i think we will be back in 3 or 4 years. It is wonderful here. Thank you again

We enjoyed our week long stay in Gardiner. We took in much of Yellowstone & even took in the local rodeo. It was so peaceful to wake up every morning to the beauty of the mountains. We can truly understand why Montana is the Big Sky country. The whole family enjoyed the house. Walking to some of the local shops for ice cream. The girls loved playing the games and our son playing the X-Box. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy your home in the west.

              Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: We live in Oklahoma where we have a ranch and business but spend as much time as possible in Montana. It has come to be our "other" home and the place we plan to retire someday. We love spending time in Yellowstone, a place we consider to be one of the most beautiful places on earth as it is ever changing and most amazing.

              Why the Owner Chose Gardiner:
We chose to build a home in Gardiner due to its proximity to YNP and because we simply liked the town where old is mixed with the new. We looked at properties on each side of the park but kept coming back to Gardiner for it's color and character. We were blessed to find the property to build on just one mile from the North Entrance to Yellowstone.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
From the comfort of the house or out on the deck you have unobstructed views into Yellowstone. In the winter, we have sat in the great room and watched bison that come down from the higher elevations of the park to graze. Elk and mule deer pay frequent visits to the house. You also have a great view of the town of Gardiner. Due to its location, you have the convenience of being in walking distance to town but also privacy as the house sits on a larger lot and backs up against the side of a mountain. When building our house we kept in mind the things we liked (and disliked) about vacation homes we had rented while traveling and built from that perspective. The comfort of our guests is truly of most importance to us.
