The North Gate House is a beautiful, new vacation home just completed in 2008. The house has approximately 2,160 square feet of space on three levels.

There are many special touches throughout the house from the soaring 21 foot high ceiling of the great room to the solid oak, wide plank flooring, to the custom glass paneled deck. From the wall of windows in the comfort of the great room or outside from the deck, you will have unobstructed views into Yellowstone where herds of elk and bison can often be seen grazing. Big horn sheep are often viewed walking the ridge behind the house.

The house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a large capacity dishwasher, above the range microwave and beautiful hickory cabinets. There is central heat and air with individual controls for each floor (a must for high desert summers where temperatures can reach the 90's at times), HD satellite televisions, high speed internet access, high efficiency washer and dryer, a Renai hot water system (you'll never run out of hot water)and a bathroom on each level.

The lower level bedroom consists of two twin/single beds, a television with built in DVD player and an Xbox system with 15 games and 4 controllers. The main floor bedroom has a double bed and televison/DVD player for viewing movies and the upper level bedroom a queen size bed with a High Definition/satellite television system. (There is also a queen inflatable mattress onsite if needed and another High Definition/satellite television system with DVD and VCR player in the great room)

Situated in the quaint town of Gardiner, you will be able to find anything you need. There are many cafes, restaurants and numerous shops, a grocery store, post office and bank. There are fishing guides, rafting companies and outfitters that offer horseback riding both in and outside of the park.

The fishing in the area is wonderful and inside the house you will find instructional videos on flyfishing plus a book guiding you to the different waters in Yellowstone which are all just a short drive away. There are two Blue Ribbon streams within a mile of the house, the Yellowstone which is 3 blocks away and the Gardiner River approximately 1 mile.

In the winter there are many available activities such as ice skating at Mammoth Hot Springs (6 miles from the house), snowshoeing in Yellowstone and the surrounding area or cross country skiing. ADDED NEW FOR 2009: For our guests who wish to explore Yellowstone in winter on a more personal level, we have added 4 sets of snowshoes to the house, available for their use. There is snowmobiling with rentals available in and out of the park, down hill skiing at Bridger Bowl (94 miles away) or Big Sky (175 miles) and our favorite - wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley where you will likely see herds of bison, elk and possibly some of the Yellowstone wolves.

After a long hard day of activities you can relax in the hot springs of Boiling River on the Gardiner River (3 miles away) then come home to the luxury of our new house overlooking Gardiner, The Northgate House.

Yellowstone North Gate House

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Gardiner

We chose to build a home in Gardiner due to its proximity to YNP and because we simply liked the town where old is mixed with the new. We looked at properties on each side of the park but kept coming back to Gardiner for it's color and character. We were blessed to find the property to build on just one mile from the North Entrance to Yellowstone.

The Unique Benefits at this House

From the comfort of the house or out on the deck you have unobstructed views into Yellowstone. In the winter, we have sat in the great room and watched bison that come down from the higher elevations of the park to graze. Elk and mule deer pay frequent visits to the house. You also have a great view of the town of Gardiner. Due to its location, you have the convenience of being in walking distance to town but also privacy as the house sits on a larger lot and backs up against the side of a mountain.

When building our house we kept in mind the things we liked (and disliked) about vacation homes we had rented while traveling and built from that perspective. The comfort of our guests is truly of most importance to us.

Owner's Map of Gardiner

We live in Oklahoma where we have a ranch and business but spend as much time as possible in Montana. It has come to be our "other" home and the place we plan to retire someday. We love spending time in Yellowstone, a place we consider to be one of the most beautiful places on earth as it is ever changing and most amazing.

Our family has been waiting for this trip for years. It was so nice to come home to such a lovely and comfortable house, after a long day in Yellowstone. THANK GOODNESS for the baby gates! My 13 month old son had such a good time running around the house. He loved watching the deer walk by and playing in the rocks. This vacation will be one we will remember always. P S Thank you for such a well stocked house! We forgot the shampoo!

We loved staying here at your North Gate house. The snacks were very thoughtful as we got into town late & everything was closed and it was the best stocked house we have ever stayed in. We got to see lots of wildlife in Yellowstone: 10 bears all together, 2 wolves, golden eagle, bald eagle, pronghorn, elk, coyote and lots of bison. The kids had the time of their lives. It was so nice to come "home" each night after a long day in the park to your comfortable house. We hope to return someday.

We had an amazing stay at the Northgate House. It was our best Yellowstone trip to date and for the first time we saw wolves! We love the view from the deck and it was great to look out at the Arch while indulging in all the delicious huckleberry patches we could find. Thank you so much. We will be back

We can't thank you enough for the use of the Northgate House. My wife said it was perfect. Its like home. This vacation ranks way up there. The park is obviously unbelievable, rafting and horseback riding were outstanding, and all the time we knew we were "coming home" to the Northgate House. The wildlife we saw elk, bison, bears, deer coyote, wolves, hawks and eagles were just unbelievable. Friday night i was cooking on the grill and a 8 point blacktail deer walked within three feet of me every time i opened the grill. I guess he wanted a cheese burger. My wife and i think we will be back in 3 or 4 years. It is wonderful here. Thank you again

We enjoyed our week long stay in Gardiner. We took in much of Yellowstone & even took in the local rodeo. It was so peaceful to wake up every morning to the beauty of the mountains. We can truly understand why Montana is the Big Sky country. The whole family enjoyed the house. Walking to some of the local shops for ice cream. The girls loved playing the games and our son playing the X-Box. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy your home in the west.

This house was beyond perfect for our family vacation and just like the many families before us we created so many unforgettable memories here. All of the thought and consideration you put into your home is most evident. It seemed that everything we needed you had. On behalf of my entire family i must say thank you. Yellowstone was magnificent, your home was warm and welcoming.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AGAIN !!

Have you ever gone some where for a second visit and had it not be quite as nice as you remembered ?? NOT SO WITH THE NORTHGATE HOME!! It was just as comfortable and welcoming as it had been 2 1/2 years ago. Cheryl & Rick have gone above and beyond to provide everything you could possibly need or want for your "home away from home". This was our first fall visit so we were hoping for fall color and the aspen trees didn't disappoint us. They were all dressed up in their georgeous yellow and gold fall wardrobe. We enjoyed watching the mule deer family that came to visit each evening. (Dad with his impressive head gear, Mom & cute little Baby). They would bed down each night right outside the kitchen window and still be there at first light the next morning. Inside the park a beautiful Bull Elk was bugleing to his "ladies".as they grazed on the median right in front of the Mammoth Post Office. He kept them all rounded up so that he could keep his eye on them. No wandering away "ladies". In Hayden Vallley we watched several Bull Bison pawing up dust storms and banging their heads together trying to decide who would be "Top Bison". Wow, it gave me a headache just hearing the collision.. No matter when we visit Yellowstone, there always seems to be something new to see. It was nice to play tourist knowing that you had the Northgate House to come home to. A quiet place to take off your shoes, kick back, and just look out at the beautiful view from your living room windows. When we are lucky enough to visit Yellowstone again, this is, without a doubt, the place where we would want to stay. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us AGAIN!

We have enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home and appreciate the opportunity to share it. We have been coming to Montana for the last 6 years and love it here. We hope someday to live here permanently. I could have just sat here in the living room or on the deck and looked across the valley the entire time we were here. Very restful and peaceful. We were able to watch some mule deer that seem to have taken up residence in this part of Gardiner - a mother and two little ones. No bear- Thank you again for sharing your home.

You have a most lovely home and very well equipped for guests. The views each morning were spectacular, and setting each evening on the deck after a long day - was heaven! Everything was wonderful - and the special touches very considerate and kind. (The snacks were great) especially for those long hikes. We definitely will recommend your home to our east coast friends who plan on visiting Yellowstone. Everything was perfect!
