There is nothing like a Kona sunset, particularly when it is seen from the beach just across from our condominium complex. Locals and visitors, young and old alike, gather to enjoy the beauty and to catch the last waves of the day. Daytime brings swimmers, boogie boarders, snorkelers and kids to play in the fine, white sand. Others prefer just to read a book in the shade of a palm tree. You might catch a view of spinner dolphins just off shore. And the famous snorkeling beach, Kahalu’u, with its green turtles and colorful tropical fish, is just a comfortable mile walk south.
Kona enjoys sunny days and gentle breezes as it is protected from the moisture laden trade winds by the twin volcanic peaks of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. Our condo is a value-priced alternative to the more expensive Kohala Coast resorts further north. We offer many resort amenities: a lovely pool, spa and tennis courts on site, a beach just across the street, and 2 great golf courses at the Kona Country Club just minutes away. However, our condo has a more home-away-from-home feel.
The kitchen is fully equipped as we like to cook! Just up the hill at Keauhou shopping center you can get just about anything from the supermarket, drug store and nearby natural foods store. Don’t miss the Saturday morning farmers’ market for fresh produce, breads, Kona coffee, condiments and crafts. But if you don’t feel like cooking, the highly rated Jameson’s Restaurant is right across the street. There are many fish and ethnic restaurants within 5-10 minutes and a wonderful breakfast can be had at the Kona Country Club with a spectacular view up the Kona coast. The condo is decorated in a Hawaiian style with works by local artists. We supply “vacation read” books and other books and materials about Hawaii and Kona. We also have Hawaiian music tapes, videos, games and a closet filled with beach toys, a boogie board, beach mats, towels, coolers, hats and chairs-all those things you’ll need but don’t want to cart with you from home.
Because our condo is back from noisy Ali’i Drive, we enjoy a more tranquil ocean view. The two bedrooms face out over undeveloped lands so that you can hear the peaceful sounds of the oceans waves as you fall asleep and awake to the songs of the birds. Our large (27’) lanai is a great place to watch the sun rise over Hualalai with a cup of incomparable 100% Kona coffee, catch the sunset after a fun filled day, or dine al fresco and enjoy the balmy tropical evening. An evening dip in the pool is always great too.
Some days we just enjoy this beautiful spot. Other days we head off to all the many unique and interesting locations around the island: black and green sand beaches, rain forests, volcanoes, ranches, historical spots and botanical gardens. Our Kona location puts the best of the Big Island within easy reach. We’ve created a book that details some of these along with many other pamphlets and resources to enhance your outings.
