Anodyne House is a late 19th century second empire house located on the western gut in South Bristol's scenic fishing village. The house sits amid flower gardens and fruit trees just 75 feet from the harbor. The lawn and garden are enclosed by hedges which ensure privacy while still permitting glimpses of the harbor with its swing bridge and lobster boats. Across the road is the Gamage Shipyard, a marina with facilities for large and small boats. A skiff for the use of Anodyne House tenants is tied up at Gamage's wharf.

South Bristol itself is a quiet fishing village, but within a half hour's drive to the south is bustling Boothbay Harbor with its galleries, shops, windjammers, and whale watching & fishing charter boats. A twenty minute drive north is historic Pemaquid, with a lighthouse, fort, and sandy beach.
