Great Lakeside Retreat September 2010

This is a great lakeside home! We (party of 8) rented the house for a long weekend to visit with family who had moved to the nearby area. It was the ideal spot to hangout, relax and spend time with one's we rarely see. The setting is beautiful with a dock & boat house which the kids enjoyed fishing, swimming and kayaking from. There is alot of room in the house, on the patio, & on the dock. We especially enjoyed the screened-in room in the boat house. The house is well maintained and clean and is equipped with all of the amenities. It is especially nice that the home owner lives next door, in case of any issues (we did not have any). I definately recommend this property. We are looking forward to returning to the property in the near future!
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

Our family stayed here for the Labor Day weekend and we loved it. It was so peaceful and the lake was beautiful. Lots of room downstairs for family gatherings. The outside porch that faces the lake was fantastic at sunset. The sun sets in front of you right across the lake. Beautiful evenings grilling and enjoying a glass of wine. Will consider this place again next year.

We stayed here for a week in June '09 with another couple and their kids totalling 4 adults and 6 children altogether - ages 8-13. We were very happy with the property, the owners, and the area. In fact, we are going back there this June so you know we were very satisfied! The house is well laid out for family stays. The family room and kitchen are quite large and comfortable. We did wish the dining area had a larger table. The upstairs bedrooms are clean and handled our large crew without any problems for space and sleeping arrangements. It's not every house that can swallow up 10 people without space issues. The highlight of the property is the dock. The single picture does not do the dock justice - its much larger than it appears. Most days our families spent the whole day on the dock, swimming, sunning, and kayaking. The dock has plenty of floor space for even 10-12 people at a time. A double picnic table gave us plenty of room to eat and there are lounge chairs for sunning around a fire pit. Another excellent feature of this property is the physical location on an inlet off Lake Palestine. The inlet is entirely 'no-wake' resulting in little boat traffic. While we kept the smaller kids in lifejackets while swimming we had no concerns about them being run over while swimming away from the dock. We visited two daytime destinations while we stayed here - the HAMM Air Museum in Tyler Texas and the Texas Freshwater Fish Hatchery in Athens. Both locations were excellent places to visit with lots of exhibits and caring staff members who made our visits memorable. I can't recommend either destination highly enough! In sum, this property is an excellent value and location. The owners are friendly and responsive. This property is a great place to bring your family!
