- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Welcome to Pelican's Nest Beach House. It's just you and the coral reef a few steps down from the front door. Snorkel all you want at one of the best snorkeling spots on the island. You can lounge on the shaded front porch, the private screened-in porches, or sunbathe on the new upper deck. Sit on the nearby dock and watch the fish through the crystal clear water. A sandy beach with tiny waves, safe for young ones is also nearby. NO BIG WAVES HERE, BUT NOW YOU CAN SURF THE INTERNET with our new wireless web access.
Two stable kayaks are available for free during your stay. With them you can explore the lagoon or the ocean. Great for fly fishing also.
Each bedroom has a king size bed, and there are FOUR futon couches that fold out to full size beds. There are new, quiet air conditioners in each bedroom, a large air conditioner (36,000 BTU) in the loft, and lots of ceiling fans. There are friendly English speaking neighbors out of sight and sound, and caretakers will usually stop by daily if you want.
This house is on the south shore of Utila Island, a short boat ride from the main town. A one week rental includes free transportation from the airport to the house, and back to the airport (one round trip). You will be met at the airport or main dock (whichever you use to arrive on Utila Island), escorted to the house in a taxi boat, and introduced to all the house features. Rentals also include $200 of electricity per week or a little over $30 per day. Electricity is supplied 24 hours by the town utility company.
There is a full kitchen, with new refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, and lots of dishware and cooking utensils. We can stock the kitchen with food at cost plus a small fee. Just let us know in advance.
There are three bathrooms with showers and all linens. A cell phone and VHF radio are also included for contacting water taxis, restaurants, grocery stores, and the rest of the outside world. Or if you decide to stay at home, a video library of over 100 titles will keep you and the family entertained. This is truly a wonderful place to get away from it all.
See utilaguide website for local travel details.
Recent upgrades include: Newly painted exterior, 36,000 BTU Air Conditioner, new refrigerator, new outside upper deck, extra water storage tanks, and new water heater. Did we also mention the two recently acquired kayaks?

My husband and two teenage daughters stayed here on Dec. 27th - Dec. 31st 2011. We enjoyed our stay at the Pelican's Nest Beach House. It was perfect for viewing the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.(We came home with some beautiful photos) The house has two porches which unfortunately we were not able to use as they did not have the screening that keeps out the sand flies. We did enjoy using the open front porch and if the breeze was just right the sand flies kept away otherwise make sure you bring the bug spray! We loved having a nice kitchen to cook in (we shopped at Bushes Market in town for all the groceries we would need during our stay) We enjoyed our time relaxing and reading. The snorkeling around the coral reef was spectacular. My husband and I enjoyed morning walks along the shore. Our hosts Kristin and Gary were very friendly and helpful to get the internet up and running for us. We would definitely plan a stay here again. The house is spacious and could accommodate a few more than just the four of us. We hope to return to stay here again someday!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My wife and our two adult sons spent a week at the property in March 2011. We went to this property on Utila looking for isolation, tropical beaches, great snorkeling, fishing, & kayaking - and that is just what we found. The pictures on the web site accurately reflect the property. The view is awesome. You really are right on the beach. The house is a typical beach house, well maintained and comfortable. There is air conditioning in every room but we did not feel the need to use it. Plenty of movies and books are available at the house as well as a laptop with internet access which is nice to have if you feel the need to connect to the outside world. Kristen, the property manager, was wonderful. Stopped by regularly to see to our needs and will help with almost any request. Kristen was available but careful not to be intrusive. The reef directly in front of the property is "alive", healthy and provides great snorkeling and diving. The nice thing about the reef is that it is directly off the beach and you don't have to swim out very far. The boys used the two kayaks that come with the property on a 6-8 hour trip to the north shore via a ‘shortcut’ through the mangroves. Make sure to pack a lunch and bring plenty of water. They tell us the north shore is beautiful. We made dinner reservations one night at Utopia, a dive resort about 1/2 hour walk away. Would highly recommed this. A nice bar on the beach, a good meal and nice people. The 3 course meal was reasonably priced at $25 per person. We followed the path behind the house which will take you right to the back of the Utopia resort property. Bring flashlights (head lamps work great) as it will be dark when you walk home. Don't let the myriad land crabs spook you. -Sand flies (no-see-ums) are pesty but can be controlled with Deep Woods Off. -Highly recommend carrying lightweight chairs to the dock for a cocktail hour or just a chance to watch the sunset without sand flies as the breeze keeps them away -Bring flip flops or beach shoes as the coral beach can be rough on bare feet. -Highly recommend taking advantage of the grocery shopping option in advance of your arrival. This allowed us to avoid the need for food shopping in town and was a relief after a long trip. What we purchased lasted us all week. I would recommend this property to people looking for isolation and what we describe above. People looking to be entertained might not chose Utila but it was perfectly suited for our needs.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
