Location: Keaau, Puna District, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (20 minutes from Hilo airport)
Accommodations: Bungalow, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 2-4)
Experience an eco-friendly luxury bungalow surrounded by over 200 exotic tropical fruit trees, palms and flowers.
The home was created with a get-a way for two in mind. It consists of two buildings connected by covered decks. The primary structure has the dining/living room area, a kitchen, and a huge flag stoned floored bathroom featuring a tub for two and a tiled walk-in shower. The living area is surrounded by a covered deck that overlooks the heart shaped pond and waterfall.
The second structure is the bedroom with a king sized bed and half bath. The home is finished in Indonesian iron-wood shingles, reed, and black bamboo along with woven Kahala and natural wood. Beautiful local Ohia poles were also utilized in the construction of the carport and entry. The home is solar powered and catches its own rain water for use.
The house is nestled within an acre of what could be called a 'botanical smörgåsbord'. Almost every tropical fruit tree and shrub that could be found, finds its home here. Our guests are encouraged to graze on this "botanical buffet" of all these fruits as they ripen in season. Along with the edibles, the acre also has an abundance of tropical flowers, rare bamboos, and palms for your sensory enjoyment.
A screened, grass hut gazebo beckons you to relax in its hammock.

WOW...simply an amazing place. Truly. We've had our share of hotels the week prior to our stay so we totally enjoyed the isolated place. Far from all the hassle of life, yet close enough to town if we needed anything. We totally love the idea of conserving energy and water. The place was so cozy and immaculate. The owners have been so accommodating. Thank you.

What a wonderful place! Both comfortable and romantic-perfect for couples or small families. The detached bedroom & the double bathtub are very nice features. The garden is just filled with such a variety of interesting & beautiful plants-I don't know where to start, we spent a lot of time just looking (and smelling) our way through the property. It is very conveniently located & pretty easy to find-about 15 minutes to Hilo-where we toured the old down town area & Tsunami museum, maybe 30 minutes to Volcano National Park-where I proposed to my (now) fiancee, or about 30 minutes to see the current(7/5)lava flow. Also it is very close to some great snorkeling at Kapoho tide pools-be sure to buy reef shoes for walking on the lava rock there & other swimming areas. We didn't get a chance to actually meet the owners (Suzanne & Glenn), but the communications we did have were very friendly & informative. They actually left maps & helpful suggestions on things to do during our vacation, which were very much appreciated!

We had such a nice stay!! Watching lava flow nearby, snorkeling at Kapoho, floating in the warm ponds, Hilo & Makuu markets, reading in the hammock... hard to leave!!! Good eats: Cafe Pesto & Hilo Bay Cafe in Hilo; Makuu Market. LOVELY HOUSE!!
