Or just walk across the road and jump into the Fowler River and see terrific rock formations and enjoy the over-your-head swimming hole.

You can see Mount Cardigan from the wrap-around deck and the lodge and trail head are just up the road. Hike its AMC rated trails- on a clear day you can see Vermont, Lake Winnipesauke, and all of the White Mountains.

In the winter ski Ragged Mountain and Tenney Mountain, both less than fifteen miles away. You can also get to Loon, Waterville Valley, Gunstock, or Mount Sunapee in under 60 minutes..

After a long day of skiing Ragged's slopes or hiking Cardigan's trails, return to the warmth of the wood-burning stove and three levels of comfortable living. Or build a fire in the outdoor fire ring after boating on the lake or swimming in the river.

The kitchen on the main level, with it's wrap-around windows and views of Mount Cardigan, offers all the conveniences of home- stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee-maker, and toaster. Gather around the large dining table and enjoy a good home cooked meal while enjoying views of fall foliage or snow covered trees.

The lower level is your living area, with TV, VCR, and DVD player by the glow of the wood stove. An assortment of videos and games are provided. At night, this area with it's two full size futons converts to a sleeping area for up to four.

The upper level is an open sleeping loft. With two queen size beds and three single beds, the loft can sleep up to seven. Add the queen bed in the cozy bedroom on the main level, and the house can sleep up to thirteen comfortably.

Why the Owner Chose Newfound Lake

On our way to see this property for the first time in August 2007, we drove up West Shore Drive past Newfound Lake and were just amazed at the beauty of the lake and surrounding area. We arrived to to see the quintessential New Hampshire cabin with its natural wood siding, beamed ceilings, knotty pine walls, country kitchen, handmade tapestries and quilts, and an artist's touch throughout.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

The best part of this property is the location. There is so much to do close by in all seasons- swimming and boating on Newfound Lake, hiking on Mount Cardigan, visiting Welton Falls, Profile Falls, and Sculptured Rocks, leaf peeping and apple picking in the fall, or skiing at nearby Ragged and Tenney Mountains (Gunstock, Loon, and Waterville Valley are all less than an hour away too). You can also take great day trips to Laconia, Lake Winnipesaukee, and experience all the White Mountains has to offer.

    • What more can anyone say. Another fabulous weekend spent with friends in a truly remarkable place. As two friends from last year couldn't make the trip, two new friends filled in. Everyone, again, loved the house, accommodations, space, cleanliness, everything. It is always bittersweet for us to leave from our girls weekend away, but we know that we have another planned for the new year--Oh happy days. Thanks, Rich for allowing us another super time away with friends. And thanks Donna for the fireplace poker. Thimblebuddies: Betty, Kim, Robyn, Dina, Vicki, Nancy, and Ruth

    • We just got back from our long weekend at Indian Summer. We were pleased with everything about the house, it was clean, well stocked, and had plenty of room. We had 4 adults and 3 kids in our group and there was a place for everyone. We hope to get back there in the summer! Thanks for having the woodstove going when we arrived! That was a nice treat on a cold October night.

    • We just got back from our week up at Indian Summer and we had a blast! We had 13 people in our group and never felt crowded, plenty of room for all! We had a couple great fires in the fire pit! We went hiking twice up to the waterfall, and a few days at Wellington State Park, what a nice beach, the directions provided to all area attractions were a huge help! Thanks so much for your rental we really loved it!

    • Hi Rich - Can't tell you how much fun we had this past weekend. Your house is great for families (6 of us). We hiked/snowshoed Mt. Cardigan - beautiful. We awoke Sunday to 6 more inches of snow - so pretty. We can't wait to come back in warmer weather and hike again. We read about the swim hole across the way which will be fun, also. Your home is comfortable and so relaxing. Can't wait to take in the wrap around porch in warm weather. You have a great place - Thanks again, Rich.

Hi Rich, I'd just like to thank you again for the beautiful house rental. We all had so much fun, and even got to know the neighbors next door. Everything in the house was beautiful and the views were spectacular. The river across the street was definitely a bonus. After all the rain on saturday the water was flowing very fast and made some nice rapids throughout. The house was beautiful and it would definitely be a nice place to go back to. Thanks again! -Manil

    • What a fabulous time we had on our quilting "girls weekend away." When we arrived and opened the door, only smiles crossed our faces as the house is absolutely charming, cozy, clean, etc. There were many projects completed, stories told, laughs had, and tummies filled with yummy food. We have already talked about when we are going to rent again, as you can never have too many weekends with friends. Thank you so much for having this place listed and available. Until we rent again, The Thimblebuddies--Annette, Betty, Darlene, Dina, Kim, Robyn, Vicki

Rich, We had a super time. The comments about the house were all positive. We are definitely going to look into our next weekend away and use your rental again. Fit our group perfectly—6 sewing machines at the table and one scrapbooker at the phone table. (Just so you know, the dining room table was the single most important factor in finding a place for our group—you have to have the space to set up and sew). Again, thank you for allowing us to use your home. Betty

    • Excellent time as usual. This is our third year in a row using the cabin for our group's annual Fall retreat. Wouldn't have it any other way! Perfectly clean home, ready to go with more than enough firewood and amenities. We'll see you next year!
