Discover for yourself isolated beaches where you may snorkel with spinner dolphins, swim in coves where hono, green turtles graze and stand amazed as whales traverse the sweeping coastline in front of you. Kayak through coves and over reefs and gaze at the sealife visible through clear blue waters, or charter a fishing boat to troll for the catch of the day. Visit Puuhonua 'O Honaunau, Kealakekua Bay, coffee plantations or macadamia nut farms. Golf at the lush Volcano Country Club or Kona's championship courses. Visit local farmers markets and shops to pick the freshest produce and local gifts to create great meals and memories. After a glorious sundown, stand on the deck beneath a crystal black sky and watch the constellations unfold above you on a nightly basis. Or just relax and unwind away from the stress of everyday life.

    • The yurt (ah, the memoryfoam bed), the hosts, the central location to Hilo and Kona, the lettuce, the hot tub under the stars, the air you breathe there are worlds apart from city hotels. We experienced the culture of the island rather than the glitz of the city. Gail and Greg are never too busy to help you with suggestions and directions. It was a great experience, and a too short week.

    • My husband and I stayed in Greg and Gail's yurt in June 2007. We were delighted with the the atmosphere generally and with the comfort of yurt living particularly. We opened our eyes every morning to a serene ocean view and perfumed breezes. In addition to touring the Big Island, we spent time lounging, reading and just soaking up the abundant sunshine on the secluded deck. We arrived with only a fuzzy idea of what a yurt was, but we were totally thrilled with it and will definitely be returning. As vacation accommodations go, hardly anything could be a better fit for island life. And our hosts understand the island pace and ambience perfectly! As a total experience, it was supurb.

    • Teddy and I recently escaped to Big Island for our first vacation in years, and staying in Gail & Greg's yurts was the best! Totally relaxing and easy to get to the volcano, Hilo, and all the amazing, isolated beaches and places to hike - we'll definitely be back soon. They showed us the best ways to the bodysurfing beaches and boating on Kona side, and we even got to join in on a hula class taught by Kumu Keala in a nearby halau! Between the beginner pottery lesson Ted got from Greg and the power shopping Gail and I did in the farmer market in Hilo, we've been raving about it since we came back. I ended up having to work from the yurt, and there is no better place to have to do tasks then under the incredible night sky of South Point. My experience has already convinced several colleagues to set up their own stays with Gail and Greg, and I'm sure they will come away as friends as well!

    • My boyfriend Jack and I came over in January 2008, just after the holidays. I had been to the Big Island before, but not Jack! He was used to big hotels, but once we got to the Smith's yurt rentals, he was thrilled! So much more relaxing, surrounded by nature with amazing views of South Point. We had a great get away and will recommend to all my friends and family. Thank you Gail and Greg for truly gracious hospitality.

    • My husband & I stayed in the yurts in Feb. 08, It was the best of all the places we stayed,on any of the islands & most affordable. The hospitality of the owners was wonderful. The flowers in our yurt where beautiful,& the bed was heavenly. The whole place was spotless. Close to the green sand beach, black sand beach, & volcano. If we ever make Hawaii again, this is where were going!
