Sunny, waterfront apartment in Alghero with a fantastic bay view on the northwest coast of Sardinia called the Coral Riviera. The apartment (approximately 100 square metres), located on the second floor of an elevator building, comprises two bedrooms (one with a sea-view balcony), full kitchen, a double living/dining room area facing the sea with two balconies, two bathrooms (a larger one with a bathtub and a smaller one with shower). It is fully air conditioned and has heating available whenever needed.
The apartment is ideally located as it faces the bay of Alghero and has a wonderful view of the old city with its Spanish bastions and church bell towers, the port with its fishing boats and pleasure crafts, and the magnificent coastline and beaches extending along the bay. You can cross the street and walk along the beaches stretching the length of the coastline toward the Lido. Alternately, stroll along the promenade in front of the port toward the city center, with its many shops and cafés.
Alghero can be visited at any time of year. The old Catalan city dates back to Aragonese rule in the fourteenth century although some maintain the town’s origins go back to the eleventh century. In addition to white sandy beaches, beautiful Mediterranean vegetation with protected natural areas, there are sites of archaeological interest such as the Nuraghe of Palmavera (ancient megalithic-age dwellings), the Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, or the Grottoes of Neptune with caverns revealing a delicate lace work of stalactites and stalagmites. For those who might be interested, current archaeological research is taking place in Sardinia to determine whether the island might be the mythical Atlantis mentioned by Plato in his works. Many cultural events are held in Alghero during the summer season and year-round in the nearby city of Sassari only a short half hour away.

My wife and I have traversed a good bit of Italy, from Calabria to the Dolomites, and love it all in its wonderful diversity. But our week in Alghero added a truly distinctive dimension and experience to our continuing Italian Journey. The hub of activity, of course, was this terrific apartment located on Via Garibaldi, the central waterfront artery. Spacious, cool, thoroughly modern with a terrific kitchen, and within easy walking distance of the old city, restaurants, super markets, and the beach, as well as easy automobile access in and out of the city, it proved a superb "base of operations" for all that we did. The owner was helpful beyond measure both in assisting us find our way to Sardinia and in ensuring the preparation of the apartment, and was easily accessible by telephone as was the local property manager who checked us in and out. A smooth and hospitable operation all round. Alghero is indeed a charming city -- open, diverse, friendly, and distinctive in character and history -- and we became quite attached. But, of course, one must get out and see the country, for which an automobile is essential. This is easily accomplished at the nearby Alghreo Airport, where many of the major rental companies are located. Time constrained our travel to an area from Bosa south of Alghero to the islands of La Maddelena and Caprera off the north coast, with much in between, and what stunningly lovely journeys they were! Caprera contains the estate and tomb of the Garibaldi, which was a special treat. Add to all this the indescribable Neptune Caves (closer to Alghero) to complete a true trip to remember. Go to Alghero. Stay here particularly for comfort, location, and ease of activity. Take it all in. You'll want to go back.

An incredibly spacious, extremely comfortable and quite luxurious apartment with a great view. It is quiet given its very central location. Short walk into either the old town or the beach. Free car parking outside or in nearby side streets. Had some problems contacting the owner by email before our arrival as she was out of email contact, but a phone call quickly sorted everything out for our trip. Indeed, when contacted by phone both prior to and during our stay Marie was extremely charming and helpful. I would rate this apartment very highly and have no reservations whatsoever in recommending it.
