Owner's Profile

Owner Description

I have lived in San Miguel de Allend since Jan. 16th 1986. I am a sculptor working in clay and bronze. When not sculpting I enjoy cooking and gardening and my two poodles, Llamo and Angel. After all these years I am more in love with San Miguel than ever. My family lives in California and I visit them often.

Why the Owner Chose Colonia Caracol

Shortly after coming to San Miguel I purchased a small piece of land covered with Mague plants. The following year I began construction, building in the Mexican tradition, little by little. The house and casita evolved into what it is today. San Miguel is know for it's fair weather, clear light, birds, bells, and flowers. The house is on a hill side, not too close, or too far from the center of town. If I were to do it again, I would do nothing differently.

The Unique Benefits of this house

The casita is an easy walk to town. If you choose to take a taxi or bus home at the end of the day it is under $2. The casita has a private patio and garden. It changes with the seasons. It is cool in our warm April and May. Most months the patio can be enjoyed in the evenings. You will awaken to the early morning light and song of the birds. There is a Rinnai heater and an electric blanket for the winter months.

Shari and I had the time of our lives staying in San Miguel de Allende and in partitular staying in Sharon's guest home. We spent 3 weeks in June and returned home the 1st week in July. I don't think you could find a more beautiful and convenient place to enjoy San Miguel. The accomodations far excel any photograghs on the web page. The living area, bedroom, and the private garden are simply beyond compare. Many evenings we simply spent in the garden having cocktails and then had dinner in. It would be hard to duplicated these accomodations anywhere!! If you are looking for a comfortable and tasteful experience in San Miguel de Allende you will find it here. We hope to return often and will always check to see if this is available first. It was magical!! Rich and Shari Clymer

I spent last February happily ensconced in Casita Las Palomas, where I felt very much at home. It has all of the amenities of a luxury hotel, with the privacy and charm of a private guest house intended for family and friends. It is spacious, artistically appointed, well-equipped for long term stays, with a gracious owner and unintrusive, accommodating staff. The lovely garden was the perfect place to read, write and retreat from the high energy of El Centro. I personally enjoyed the exercise of the walk to and from town, but on the few evenings I decided to cab it back, a taxi was easy to flag and inexpensive. I look forward to spending another month there next year!

We spent a wonderful month at this cozy and comfortable casita overlooking the most beautiful and tranquil sculpture garden. We would often relax in the casita till mid- afternoon, before thinking of venturing out for the day. As a travel agent, I am always looking for great places to send my clients and Sharon's warm hospitality combined with her extensive knowledge of San Miguel gave us one of our best vacations ever. We truly miss it. In fact, we will be relocating to San Miguel soon and look forward to seeing our friend Sharon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casita las Palomas and would return if we hadn't bought a house in San Miguel. The casita is the right mix of charm, function and comfort. We have all stayed in places where one of these is missing - not here. The location is quiet, and the beautiful garden provides a great spot for afternoon wine or reading. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom great for two people. The kitchen is well-equipped - we even had friends over for dinner. Sharon and Fred are delightful and can provide a wealth of information, while not intruding at all. Finally, while we don't usually comment on the housekeeper and gardener, Francisca and Jaime added to our enjoyment with their smiles, greetings and willingness to listen to our bad Spanish.

Casita Las Palomas is as lovely as its photos suggest. In fact, the camera can't quite catch the high-ceilinged wealth of space that frames the garden view from the main room. The furnishings are comfortable as well as very attractive; the music system is excellent; the film collection has something for everybody, and the computer/email facility was certainly a huge bonus for us. The casita is just far enough from "el centro" to ensure quiet, but close enough that we often walked. Taxis and buses are inexpensive alternatives and we were always able to find one or the other just down the street. The owners, Sharon and Fred, were a magic combination of presence and absence - there when we needed them, but careful to let us feel that the casita was ours. They could not have been more helpful. Their talented enthusiasm for gardening and decorating has created a remarkable property both inside and out. We were very happy to spend a month there this year.
