The ancient Tuscan village of Nozzano Castello is an ideal base from which to explore the art and culture of towns such as Lucca (7 km), Pisa (15 km), Florence (65 km), Pistoia and Volterra (all within easy reach), and also for relaxing trips to the nearby coast, hills and mountains.
The gracious Villa del Castello (sleeps 15/18) is the oldest building inside the historic town walls of Nozzano Castello, and brings to life 700 years of history. It is situated in a secluded position at the foot of the castle, overlooking the plain and surrounding hills.
The Villa was built on the first circle of walls constructed in 1300, and backs on to the original rock face. It was lovingly and tastefully restored in 2005, and contains much astonishing evidence as to its historic and noble past.
Every floor presents different features:
Ground floor and mezzanine floor “Middle Ages” :
In the oldest part of the Villa del Castello, a real jump into past times, we make at the disposal of our guests two ancient dwellings and one double room. As the castle and the Villa del Castello were originally built on the rocks, in some rooms on the ground floor you will find these rocks emerging from the ground.
The marble bath rooms and all the rooms are furnished with gusto: ancient convent beds, chestnut beams and hand made terracotta floors will allow you to dream and fantasize on distant times. Modern household appliances in the kitchen and hi-fi stereo and TV guarantee for nowadays comfort.
First floor “18th century”:
The first and main floor, nowadays completely renovated and restored to its original splendor with the ceiling frescos from the 18th century, rich in period furniture, is the most luminous part of the Villa with view on the slopes of the Apuan Alps. At one extremity a loggia, now transformed in a studio with view – in the distance - on the Leaning Tower of Pisa, on the other extremity a wonderful, big terrace with lovely view on the surrounding green hills.
Second floor “Modern Ethnic Style”:
The second and last floor is made up of a modern ethnic style apartment with two double rooms (one tester bed), one twin room, a living room and two bath rooms, one of it with tube and shower. The furniture is modern in “ethnic style”, parquet floor and ceiling in typical Tuscan style with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles in sight. The bathrooms has typical Italian ceramic tiles.
Gardens
Three hanging gardens with different Mediterranean plants and spices, furnished with deckchairs invite our clients for a relaxing rest after the sight seeing tours in the Tuscan culture, kitchen and vineyards.
