This is the third year that my family and my best friend's family have stayed at Casa Alcazar when in Playa. Ulla, the house manager, arranged for our transportation to/from the airport at a cheaper rate than we were able to find with any commercial providers and her driver was always early. She personally greeted us upon arrival with a beautiful welcome basket complete with a bottle of wine, tequila, coffee, and delicious local snacks. She also started us off with milk, beer, and juice already cold in the refrigerator! The house is gorgeous and beautifully maintained, as exemplified in the pictures posted on this site, and is perfect for our group of 10 with six children ranging in ages from 5-19 years old. Each bedroom offers sufficient privacy for all guests and the common areas are perfect for hanging out as a group, indoors, on the patio, or at the pool. We are 'foodies' who love to cook and the fully stocked kitchen with all of the amenities allowed us to maximize our big family meal experiences. If you are interested in grocery shopping, you can easily catch a taxi in front of the house to Walmart or Mega for 70 pesos and find almost anything you are looking for (for more American selections go to Walmart). On the return trip, just tell the taxi drivers that you are staying next to The Reef Club, as they are all familiar with the location. The beach is a short 5-minute walk from the house and is incredible! If you want to walk into town, I would recommend walking from the beach rather than the streets - the view is beautiful, the walk is cooler with the sea breeze, and seems to be a bit faster (approximately 20 mins). Ulla is a fantastic house manager - she's extremely attentive and personable. If you are looking for a beautiful house to stay at in the Riviera, Alcazar is a true gem. I give Alcazar my absolute highest recommendation and look forward to returning for our future vacations in paradise. Thanks to both Bernie and Ulla for their exceptional service!

We rented this home and had high expectations based on the pictures and the reviews. The outdoor patio area must be reached by an awkward long, steep staircase from the kitchen. We rarely used it mostly because it was filthy with bird droppings, which were primarily caused by bats. The management stated it had been cleaned before our arrival, but I doubt this could be true. We moved to another home for the last ten days of our trip which was adjacent to the aviary and was spotless outdoors and had clean windows. Our other disappointment was the lack of a relaxing living area with comfortable furniture. To be fair, the management was extremely responsive to our needs and the home was well stocked with towels, linens and paper goods. The location is good, but the house is noisy because it is on a busy street. I hope this saves some one else a bad experience.

We recently stayed at the property with 3 other couples. We had plenty of space for all four couples. You can easily walk to town in 10 minutes or take a cab for $7 US. There are numerous cute outdoor restaurants that are very reasonably priced. My husband and I did a $20 massage and it was worth every penny! The beach is the prettiest beach that I have seen in Mexico. It is just a few steps away and very private. The property is "as advertised". We would highly recommend a stay at this villa.

We recently rented this property for a group of four couples and found it to be a great property. This group has been going on a February trip for the last 5 years and previously had gone to all inclusive resorts. Playa was a great change from the all inclusive and house worked out great! It is a spacious home and impeccably maintained. There is a spacious private patio area with the house and the common pool area was so rarely used it felt like your own. It’s a short walk [or cheap cab ride] to Playa, ferry to Cozumel and to stores for supplies. Ulla the property manager is great and available for all your needs prior to and during your stay. Our group arrived from 3 different locations/time and it appeared that airport transfers were going to be expensive. I emailed Ulla our flight info and she made all the transfer arrangements to and from the airport at a price much less than any I had found online. We all commented that it was the easiest airport transfer we have had of all the past trips we were on. The most amazing part of the trip happened after we returned home. A couple days after leaving I received an email from Ulla asking if anyone in our group was missing a necklace they had found in one of the bedrooms. Turns out my wife had left her diamond necklace behind in our bedroom. It is now on its way back to us. Pretty amazing but gives you an idea of the quality of the people as well as the property you will be dealing with if you rent this place for your next vacation.

This home is a jewel of distinction from what can be a boring choice of vacation residences. The art in the home combined with the different levels and textures is just lovely. We were a group of 11 and fit comfortably with much private space and options. The beach is a 5 minute walk and the town is a 12 minute walk so easily accessible for all. This is the perfect home for large gatherings of couples and/or families as each suite presents complete autonomy. The best part of our arrangement was the care of the management team of Ulla and the sweet Teresa who was our cook. Ulla was friendly, efficient and lovely and Tera we all wanted to take home in our carry-on bag. Her sweet smile every morning was worth getting up for alone. She really exemplified all that is good in Mexico and was so patient with my horrendous Spanish and was such a pleasure to meet. Her cooking was simple and family friendly and she was always efficient and so worth hiring. The home was very clean, the sheets were pressed, the hot water was hot and the amenities were great. We were given lots of towels and beach towels which is always a plus in my book. We had some rain while we were there which caused an extremely hazardous slipping situation with water pouring down the stairs I would highly recommend that this be addressed with owner/management. Some treads on the end of each stair is most necessary on the slippery tile as my sister slipped and hurt her ankle by falling 3 steps during this time....we laid towels on each step to avoid anyone else being injured. Also bad puddles formed on the outdoor 2nd floor lounge area and we had to sweep the water away with brooms. Other than this minor and correctible issue I would HIGHLY recommend this spot to future vacationers and I know you will love this house too! Thanks Ulla, Tera and Bernie!

My wife and I brought a couple of friends to stay with us at this magnificent property in Playa del Carmen. The house has plenty of space and is set up in such a way to provide privacy for all guests, yet plenty of room for gatherings at cocktail hour. Bedrooms are setup with kitchenettes and have views to a lush courtyard. All have A/C units. Minutes walk to the beach, and access to a beautiful pool seconds away. Downtown Playa is a quick 15 minute walk past ancient ruins, or a 3 minute drive. A great place to stay next to a great town to visit!

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful home with another couple for the week and it was wonderful. Great location, friendly assistance, and fantastic accommodations. Waking up and eating a leisurely breakfast on the lush patio, walking to the world-class beaches or shopping and eating on 5th Avenue, and being minutes away from cenotes, Mayan ruins, and a ferry to Cozumel for world-class diving made this a special trip. We couldn't have been happier with this beautiful villa! We'll definitely be back again.

We stayed in Alcazar in July of 2008. We were a party of 9. 4 adults 5 younger adults. The unit for the most part was comfortable. However, we did have a problem with the Air conditioning. The units are old and they did not provide confort from the heat at night. I was under the impression from the caretaker that this is a problem, however, he did not say so directly. The caretaker was very nice and was only a phone call away. The house was cleaned every other day. Everyone was very nice. We spend a few days going to the ALL inclusive. All in all we had a nice time. The unit is very unique and Playa Del Carmen is a great place and I would go back again.

Owner response: All aircondition units have been updated in 2009

11/22/08 Alcazar was ideal for our family of 8. The bedrooms are spacious and the home is in great condition. We loved breakfast daily on the patio. The home is stocked with games for all, tennis racquets and a travel log of information for those not familiar with the area. We found a cab driver that was formerly a chef in the US who cooked one evening for us. It probabley was the most memorable meal. If intereseted call Vicente at 984-140-8632. The pool is lovely and was used daily. If you retire in the evening early, this may not be your place. The roadway noice is bad in the front rooms and the Reef has late entertainment most every evening that continues well into the morning. On a whole, however, this is a wounderful place to spend a week.

Dearest Bernie and Pam, I guess the third time visiting Playa was such a charm! We came back healthier, happier, and hopeful again! What is in your water? It seems to have a fountain of youth effect, making us feel younger and sexier! It was harder to leave this time, we are so grateful to you both and your wonderful casa. Your hospitality is so gracious and fun, and we can't wait to come again! Thank you for encouraging us to have a vacation and for offering your wonderful sanctuary away from the States, with our good friends, where one can't help but feel renewed and re=energized! It is only fair to mention, whenever we come, we seem to become so amorous with each other, it is such good therapy......for a long a happy union ....31 years and looking forward to another 31 years together, thanks for helping us feel relaxed enough to enjoy the simple pleasures, and for the ambiance of a romantic setting! We seem to unwind, talk more to each other, hold hands again, and forget all of our anxieties. All our gratitude, Love, Mary and Michael PS. Eat at Manny's! look up at the full moon, and don't forget to have a drink and dance your heart out at Capt. Dave's on the beach!

Alcazar is a beautiful home, has everything you could imagine. We had 8 people and it was very roomy. A beautiful setting to sit by the pool or on the patio and enjoy drinks with friends and family. The surroundings are georgeous. Larry and Janice were of tremendous help, we had the kitchen stocked before arrival (good idea). Victor was helpful with any arrangements you might want and he was always available. No need to rent a car, you can get a cab right outside the the house or leisurely walk the 20 min to town. There are "many" new and wonderful resturants. Great food!! Capt. Dave's on 10th & 8th is a must--fun, fun, fun. Thanks Bernie for "popping in", it was great and my birthday was the best. Can't wait to return.

Eight of us just had the most fantastic time. RENT THIS HOUSE!! It is better than the pictures...large, decorated beautifully, and immaculately kept. The grounds are wonderful....lush and private. The pool sparkles and is just steps away. The bedrooms all have private balconies and baths and there is such a feeling of openness and freshness about the place. Highly recommended is that you ask Larry and Janice to have the place stocked with food and drink prior to your arrival. Victor is wonderful with arrangements for anything and anyplace you want to go...the cab drivers really show up when they say they will!! Fabulous restaurants and shopping within walking ( or a short cab ride) distance...... We are already awaiting our next trip to this very special place.

Came for our 30th wedding anniversary. 10 adults and two toddlers. What a spectacular home. We never imagined Casa Alcazar to be such a breathtaking place. It was so nice to have privacy for everyone while having the option to be together in the common rooms. The beautiful pool was also a treat. We had it to ourselves most of the time which was very nice. When we weren't at our pool, we were next door at the Reef Club taking advantage of their pools and beach. As for the staff here, everyone was very friendly and hospitable.

Bernie and Pam, What a wonderful treasure is your home in Mexico. Thank you for sharing it with us and giving us a tour of a Mexico we have never seen. Fish tacos, riding in the back of your truck, snorkeling in the Cenote (with the beautiful sculptures),interesting conversations on your patio and drinks and music at Capt. Dave's on 10th made our vacation so memorable. The restaurant suggestions of Il Pescadore (Happy Birthday Pam!), and dining at the Argentinian flank steak place I would highly recommend. Our son John & Anne said the time they spent with you was also a highlight of their trip. Again Thank You for your hospitality. Art & Joann Leo

June 6, 2005 Try to explain to someone the most beautiful place you have enver seen or had the experience of staying there. Ther just are not words that express the beauty or the wonder of Alcarzar. It is peaceful, it is exciting, it is quiet and it is fun. You can be as busy as you want or you can be as quiet and peaceful as you want. You can walk to Mayan ruins and learn so much about the past, to into town or to Cozumel and all the fun possible. Mt family has told other pleople that if you want to know about Alcazar you must think of the most beautiful place you have ever seen, and then know Alcazar is even more beautiful. The staff that works at the villa try in every way to make your stay exactly the way you want it to be. They keep it clean while never getting in the guests way. Our family and dear friends, Marty and Carole Chirgwin have had the pleasure of staying in Playacar at Alcarzar for the past four years and they were the best vacations of our life. We hope to going there every year as long as possible. We will always treasure our memories, and thank Pam and Bernie for allowing us the pleasure. Sincerely, Pat Lantinga

To celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary our family came to Playacar, there were eleven of us. We had such a good time. The grandchildren loved the waverunners, their parents the snorkeling and we grandparents watching all the action from our comfortable beach chairs under the thatch umbrellas. A delightful week in every respect with many wonderful memories to take home.

Our vacation a Playacar was perfect. The house was amazing, perfect for multiple families or friends that want to vacation togehther, but appreciate the privacy of separate suites. The house was kept immaculately throughout our stay. The beach was easily accessible and the most beautiful I've seen. Food and shopping were great. The perfect place if you enjoy beach walks, gourmet food, cocktails at sunset and dancing in the evening. And who doesn't!

We've been guests at the Alcazar several times. This is our favorite house for friends and family to join us for a retreat. We love the flow of the house. Everyone has their own privacy and the breezeway with the palapa is a favorite place to sit, play cards, drink or just relax. We like the Reef Club next door to go party and get to know other people. The beach there is the best!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Playa Bernie. The location is perfect and the use of the Reef Club was great. The house was a 15 minute walk to town, but we found it easier to take a cab sometimes (due to a late evening return, or sometimes, we were just too lazy to walk!!). But the cab ride was only about $5.00 US. The house is beautiful and the rooms are very nicely decorated. The maid service was wonderful - she even washed our clothes if they were in the hamper! Leslie (the caretaker) is a great source of help. Everything she recommended turned out to be correct. She had margueritas, chips, salsa, fruit, etc waiting for us when we got there and was willing to help us out in any way she could. Very nice lady. The owners of the home were very accomodating - sent us lots of information before we left for our vacation. We highly recommend this lovely home - Enjoy!!!

We have stayed here twice, and would happily do so again! The setting is magical, the house is intriguing and comfortable, and Playa del Carmen is a vibrant town on the beautiful blue waters of the Carribean. From snorkeling on a reef to poking about a Mayan ruin to drinking a beer at a secluded cabana bar, this is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the warmth of Mexico - both the sun and its people. Alcazar de Playa is the perfect place to laze about while recharging your batteries in the morning, and to lay your head at the end of the day!

Accomodations were splendid, great location, convenient to town but most of all - A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY!! The most reasonably priced residence I have found in the area.

This is a great vacation place with a large group of people. The home is absolutely beautiful and its minutes fron Excaret a great park to spend the day at or part of a day, then return later for the great events at night. You are also within walking distance to the town and the ferry to Cozumel. Their is also a lot of snokeling adventures to do. The taxis are available right outside the house so if you choose that to get around just stand on the curb and flag one down. This is a very easy place to get around. You also can use the Reef Club next door to use all the facilities for a small fee, all you can eat and drink for a day or week. A very beautiful home and very relaxing and a few seconds walk to the beach and a pool right out the back patio. Try it you'll want to come back. Sharron LeMieux

I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at the Villa. We had 9 adults and 2 children in the Villa and had plenty of room for all of us. The pictures on this site do not do it justice. The patio is lush with greenery. And when they say it is a 3 minute walk to the beach they mean it. All of the bedrooms had plenty of room. We walked to the main part of town just about every night, but getting a taxi, if you prefer, is not a problem. We went into Cancun and Cozumel a couple of nights. Which was very easy to do by using the bus or ferry. Leslie was great!!! She was very good about keeping in contact with us and giving us suggestions on where to go and where to eat. Listen to her she knows what she is talking about. Blanca, the cook, had brunch waiting for us when we arrived from the airport and I would highly recommend having her cook for you as many times as possible. Besides the brunch she cooked us a traditional Yucatan dinner. The dinner was outstanding! I would also recommend having Leslie stock the fridge for you. It was great not having to go to the store as soon as we got there. Just let her know what you want and she will take care of the rest. We also took advantage of the babysitter 3 nights we were there. She was very good with the little ones. The only bad thing about the whole trip was that it didn't last long enough. I'm sure we will go back and stay at the Alcazar again. I would have to give this vacation a 5+ star rating!

We stayed at Alcazar for 10 days in August. Everything about the property and our dealings with the manager/caretakers was wonderful. The house is amazing...uniquely and artfully designed, comfortable, beautifully furnished and quite grand without being ostentatious. The grounds are lush and private with just a short walk to the beach. We felt very much at home and were well cared for by the staff. Location is great, as well. Lots to do nearby. We would definitely stay here again.

Villa Alcazar was more than we thought it would be. The staff took care of all of our needs.
