This was a great place to stay and I highly recommend it. Holly was so nice. The place was decorated so well and with the Japanese soaking tub, river rock shower, and luxury bedding, it was like a vacation at a spa retreat.

This is a great property! Well thought out design with great amenities, fresh, smart, clean and convenient. Great biking, hiking access and awesome fenced in yard for dogs. Property is well stocked and the gas grill is a strong addition to the kitchenette. Overall a great experience and I will be back!

I got a chance to visit my daughter at the last minute for my birthday and Holly was able to accomadate us. The place was perfect for the visit. I brought some of my garden's harvest and was able to make two wonderful meals using the grill/microwave/hot plate. The organic market a few steps away was also very helpful as I didn't have to get into my car to go shopping. Thanks so much for leaving the camping headlamp near the grill as that helped so I didn't burn the dinner! The bed was wonderful and the soaking tub very relaxing. Would love to stay with you again. We so enjoyed the Bucking Mule Guest House! It's was amazing. The dog loved the private courtyard area and so did we. The walking distance to Joe's coffee and downtown main street was perfect. What I loved most was how roomy and open the studio was even at 500 sf! Makes me want to downsize my current lifestyle to live more with less. We will be back to enjoy more of what Durango has to offer.

We were visiting our daughter for her graduation from Fort Lewis College the weekend we stayed at the Bucking Mule. We have visited Durango several times and this was by far the best place we have stayed. The location cannot be beat for the proximity to town and the owners have thought of everything. The accommodations were wonderful and we enjoyed the soaking tub every night, along with the great patio. We will definitely be back!

This rental was a cute little bungalow in downtown Durango. It was easy to get to, It was secluded but close to town so we could walk to have our breakfast. The amenities were luxurious and efficient. We brought our food to cook out on the back patio so we didn't have to leave so we could relax and enjoy every minute of our beautiful surroundings. The owners of this condo worked with us to supply what we needed and then some. It was a perfect weekend stay due to the environment, company, and overall ease at which we felt at our little house. Thank-you for working with us and just adding to such a relaxing experience. I would strongly recommend this little get-away to anyone.

Our stay at the guest house couldn't have been any more perfect. Not a very big property, but very comfortable for us along with our 2 college-age daughters. The enclosed patio was like another room in the morning and evening. Didn't get to meet Holly or Ben in person, but there was no need as our every need was met due to their great planning. Took Holly's recommendation for rafting company and went with "Mild to Wild." They were great. We are planning on changing our route to Phoenix permanently through Durango instead of Albequerque, in large part because of this delightful vrbo.

Our family of 4 adults (2 adults and 2 adult children) stayed at The Bucking Mule. After reading the previous reviews, I was a bit concerned that it might be too hot in July, however, Holly had recently added the window unit air conditioner. For us, who like to sleep in a cool room, this made it very comfortable. When we pulled up to unpack at about 11 pm, I was concerned about the noise coming from the bar across the street. However, this room is on the back side of the house, and having the newly installed A/C unit, this allowed us to keep the windows closed. The entire place was very clean and cozy. My wife and I stayed in the main bed, complete with individual reading lights. Our 2 adult children stayed on the foldout couch, which was a very nice foldout couch. With 4 of us, it was also very nice to have the main bathroom (sink, shower, and Japanese tub) separate from the room with the toilet. This kept the toilet free while the shower room was being used. The in-house washer and dryer proved to be invaluable during our 4-day stay. We were right down the street from the Fort Lewis College campus, which is where we had to go to attend the wedding we were there for. This was very convenient. We loved this place and would stay there again! Thanks, Holly!

We were very happy with the accomodations. We got exactly what was advertised-a comfortable place for us and our pets. Comfortable bed, clean linens, internet access, private yard. Close to downtown if you like to stroll around town. We liked the college town vibe of this location. Would definitely stay here again when we travel to Durango in the future.

The Bucking Mule is perfect. We have always stayed in a hotel in town but wanted something more user friendly for a week. We absolutely loved it. Comfortable bed most importantely, all the conveniences, well appointed, in town. No negatives for us. This will be our new home away from home when visiting our sons. My favorites were the river stone shower floor, love the key pad (no fumbling for a key) and heated floor. Holly and Ben did a great job.

We usually have to leave our dog behind with a friend, as many vacation hotels, condos, etc., are not accommodating to pets. My fiance and I found the guest house to meet all of our needs, leaving us with a very homely feel, while still having a very modern and chic atmosphere. Holly was more than accommodating to us and our dog. We will definitely stay here when we return to Durango. It is truly a hidden treasure, in which we plan to enjoy again and again. -AJ, Noelle and Castor

We stayed in the adorable guest house as part of a long roadtrip around the southwest. Holly was very accomodating the the guest house was perfect. Very well appointed with great furnishings, beautiful new bath, and cute courtyard. Located within a few blocks of the main downtown street that has great restaurants (I recommend Ken & Sue's). A great choice for a stay in town.

We just finished a stay at the bucking mule guest house. It is amazing how well laid out and fictional it is! The finishes are amazing and it does not feel like a rental. The large fenced patio was perfect for our dogs, they loved being able to go in and out! The location is very close to town, but as others have said it is a bit loud. We cooked full meals here on the grill, which was a nice change from eating out every night!

This was a great place to stay....it has everything you need, and it is a close walk to town. The Japanese Tub was a highlight...so even if you are someone who never takes baths....it will be hard to resist. It was a bit noisier than is ideal, especially on the weekend. The kitchen is well supplied with equipment considering there is no stove...but the microwave and toaster, frig, etc were great to have if you are eating major meals out. It is a convenient walk to downtown .....Holly was great as a "landlord" and eager to make the stay as good as possible.

The property has been thoughtfully and stylishly remodeled as the pictures indicate. Having the enclosed patio was definitely a plus. However, it was not adequately cleaned (dirty towels in armoire, dirty coffee maker, hair in soaking tub) and the location is much more commercial and noisier than I expected (laundromat and bar across the highly trafficked street). It was hot the week we were there and we had to go out and buy a fan because the interior temperature (even when following the owners suggestion to close the curtains during the day!) was upwards of 85 degrees in the evening. Air simply doesn't circulate. There was also major road construction in front of the unit during our stay creating dirt, noise and difficult access. I feel we should have been warned of the situation since it had been going on for over a month.

    Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing.

Owner response: We pride ourselves on keeping our guesthouse perfectly clean and have never had a complaint before. These things may have been missed, but it is normally spotless. We have added a nice window fan for the hotter seasons, it will blow air in or out... nice! I think this guest did not understand my instructions to leave the windows closed during the day so the heat stays out, and open at night so the cool comes in. The Guesthouse is VERY insulated with R-45 ceiling and R-30 walls with low-e windows and a flat roof. It stays very cool and comfortable in the summer if you just close the windows during the hot part of the day. I do appreciate the suggestions though and always want to improve our place. Thanks!

Holly, Thanks for such a great stay at the Bucking Mule. We had a great mother/daughters weekend with lots of movies and candy in the comfy bed. The cottage is beautiful, the soak tub wonderful and your hospitality amazing. The location was perfect, close to downtown and the health food store across the street was an easy way to stock up the fridge with healthy treats. Thanks Holly for sharing your special space, you made us feel like family!

the tub was a great luxury after a few days on the slopes. we really like how open and light filled the place was. there's not a stove or oven in the kitchen, but it's really close to town so microwave and toaster suited us fine when we weren't eating out. we'll make sure to stay here again if we're in durango next year.
