Built in 1820 as the house of a felt mill owner, we have carefully restored this house and brought out its original details. Wide plank floor boards, wainscoting, 12 pane original windows, and original curved banister are just a few of the many wonderful touches. The house is filled with antiques of the period including fine art, Beidermeier furniture, stained glass, period sconces, and rugs. The kitchen is modern with high-end appliances (Viking and Kitchen aid) and the bathrooms were modernized with decorative new ceramics and hardware. There is a working fireplace.
The property is, however, quite amazing. We decided to buy the house before entering it after seeing the property. It is in its own valley with a lake on one side and a waterfall which ran the mill (now gone). There are 5 acres of lawns, a gunnite swimming pool with pool veranda, and a Japanese Koi pond fully landscaped, as is the entire property with specimen trees and many flower beds.
We rent for a minimum of 2 weeks only.
There is also available a charming newly renovated guest cottage on the property which dates from the same period and was the ice house. The cottage is lake front, 2br, 2 fplce, 2 decks (overhanging the water). Add $5000 for July, $6000 for August, or $10,000 for both months.
