Headland House Estate Two Homes Panoramic Views & Media Room
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Deer Harbor
We had owned Timber Lodge another vacation rental home on Orcas Island for a number of years and found that everyone that visited Orcas Island had wonderful things to say about it and it has fast become our most popular vacation property in our portfolio. When we made the decision to purchase a second vacation home we had seriously considered buying a property on San Juan Island but Orcas Island felt more comfortable especially since we had our entire infrastructure already in place. We considered a waterfront home but the views were actually more spectacular from a distance than up close. The main factor was all that Headland House really needed was some interior design touches to make it a truly special home. The water views and eight acres of privacy makes Headland House is one of the best attributes along with having a totally separate guest house that has the same quality construction as the main house. The Guest house is a miniature version of the main house. The architect created the most gorgeous skylight in the kitchen that is actually more beautiful than the one in the main house. I would say the decking and patio areas attached to every bedroom is another super nice feature and best yet we are walking distance to our own private beach and have dock privileges. Oh..yes and everyone loves the projection TV in the great room!

Owner's Map of Deer Harbor
After spending 25 years in high tech procurement as a start-up company expert and entrepreneur I left that part of my life behind to become the Vacation Lady. In the early 1980’s I was having to make frequent trips to the Far East and experienced High tea at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. It was during this trip that the inspiration and entrepreneurial vision came to open Tea Salons in the US. In 1988, I founded a new specialty retail tea business. Created the concept, interior design elements and business plan model from a one-store operation to over 16 US franchised operations and two International locations in less than four years which placed us number 35 of the 100 fastest growing privately held companies in Silicon Valley in 1995. After 10 years in the tea business and spending stints in high tech start-ups I was ready for a new challenge. Since my husband and I enjoyed traveling and dabbling in real estate and nearing retirement age it seemed like the perfect fit. In 1996 we founded Vacation Holdings, purchased our first vacation home and set off to build a luxury vacation rental business using our properties as vacation rentals. It was such a natural progression as I could use my skills in purchasing, interior design and use the same disciplines required in franchising such as scheduling, creating instruction manuals for guests and tracking linen, towels and kitchen inventory. Basically, I was back in the Franchise business only this time we were creating turnkey vacation rentals instead of retail store fronts. My lessons learned from the service industry are applied every day in customer service and satisfaction. We are now up to 9 properties in various areas of the US and Virgin Island and I can say that this is the best time of my life as there is nothing more satisfying than helping to make a Dream Vacation come true.

What an amazing home with spectacular views of the water. The house is decorated beautifully, with special touches everywhere. The gourmet kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals. We rented both the main house and guest house which gave our 2 families more then enough room. The big projection screen was great for watching movies, or sports. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and pool table down stairs. We loved exploring Orcas Island. Eastsound is a cute small town with great restaurants, and shops. We could not get enough of the beautiful views that surrounded us. The owners were great to work with and very accommodating. We had such a wonderful stay, we can't wait to go back!

As we approached the home, which takes you into a sea of beautiful lush foliage, instant relaxation came upon us. The quietness and complete isolation was a welcomed treat from the daily routine for a family of 5. The house was absolutely stunning coupled by the home's stunning decor. The kids loved the pool table, spa, and our nightly movies on the 100" HD movie projection system. This trip by far was one of the best trips and are counting the days upon our return!

My wife and I made a decision to get away for the weekend. The Ferry ride to the island included many scenic views as we weaved through the islands to arrive at Orcas. Headland House is a beautiful home and impeccably maintained. The views over looking the water and adjacent islands are captivating and you just want to watch for hours. The bed was very comfortable and with the morning view we enjoyed our morning coffee before heading off to visit Eastsound. When in Eastsound you must stop by Mia's Cafe for a great breakfast. Sunday we overslept and could not make the morning Ferry. Called the owner and explained our plight and they were really accommodating. We well be back for a longer stay this coming spring.

We spend this incredible week her with fabulous weather in this beautiful appointed house. We did all the tide pools in East Sound, swimming, kayaking, paddle boating, canoeing and fishing at Cascade Lake. The most incredible whale watching trip out of Deer Harbor where we followed a huge pod of Orcas for over an hour! Nice dinner at the Deer Harbor Inn. We certainly enjoyed the giant size screen TV! The final day kayak trip was great lots of long walks and time to sit on the deck with a good book rounded out a very wonderful family trip….Back to LA tomorrow with great memories for all

We enjoyed the week at the Headland House. We had sunny weather and no rain. The view to the water and other islands was fantastic! The 30 + years old boys were able to go crabbing on Wednesday and Thursday and caught two that were converted to help supplement the green salad (Dungeness and Red Rock). We also saw a harbor seal plus and mother with her baby sea otters. On Tuesday we took the Eclipse whale watching boat. We took pictures of many J pods family which included Blackberry, Granny, Mike Eclipse and Ruffles. Last evening we dined at the Deer Harbor Inn. The halibut was the favorite. We were entertained by Tucker on the piano who is a good friend of the featured pianist Doug Montgomery in Santa Fe. The next day raspberries were included in our breakfast smoothies and we used them to make ice cream sundaes. We will talk about the Safari theme decorating throughout the house and recommend this home to our Ft. Worth friends.
