Belle-Ile-en-Mer is a magnificent island in Brittany which is 15 miles by 6. It used to be the favorite vacation place of a lot of French artists during the 19th Century; like the painter Claude Monet or the actress Sarah Bernhardt.
The island is only accessible via a ferry from Quiberon, if you want to put your car in the ferry, it is possible but reservations must be made in advance with the ferry company.
Belle Ile is a very romantic island with a lot of secluded beaches and anchorages. There are many activities to do all year round, from fishing, to golfing, sailing, shelling, hiking...
In the summer time there is the largest opera in western France that takes place in Belle-Ile, it is called the Lyrique en Mer/Festival de Belle-Ile. Founded in 1998 by American opera singer Richard Cowan, the Festival produces two staged operas every summer, conducted by Music Director Philip Walsh and directed by Mr. Cowan, the Artistic Director. Additionally, there are sacred concerts in all four of the island's historic churches, as well as many smaller concerts and Master Classes.
The property is located on 1 mile from le Palais which is the main village and 1 miles from the closes t beach. It has a main house with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus a guest house with one bathroom, a small kitchen and a bedroom. The place used to be a English painter's house and it has kept all its original charms and beauty. In the main house, there are 3 bedrooms plus a master bedroom with a loft, private bathroom and a fire place. The guest house also has a fire place.
