Want to sip your drink of choice, read your favorite book, ride a bike, walk to the beach, go antiquing-fishing-sailing-golfing or just quietly watch a beautiful sunset while putting your toes in the sand? If so, this newly renovated home is the right place for your vacation.
The house was built in 1913 when historic Cape Charles was a booming railroad town. It has recently been reconstructed to include the modern comforts of today while keeping the irreplaceable character and charm of the past. The downtown avenue (a 5-minute stroll) has a number of refurbished, old buildings that offer restaurants, a hardware store, drugstore, coffee shop, gift shop and reminisces of the past. There is an Arnold Palmer Golf Course as well as a Jack Nicklaus Golf Course within a 10-minute drive. A new marina with gift shop, restaurant and bar is only a few minutes away. Great seafood can be purchased for a fresh feast at home or dine out at one of the unique restaurants close by. The wide, white sand beach (cleaned and graded daily) is perfect for children and sea glass collecting. The sandy bottom Bay is the place to float peacefully. Eco touring opportunities such as kayaking, bird-watching, State Park exploring, etc. abound on the Eastern Shore. The Chesapeake Bay is known for its fishing whether in your own boat or with a fishing guide/party.
The town of Cape Charles is quaint, quiet and wonderful for families as the bay softly laps onto the beach. With easy access to both the Ocean and the Bay, Cape Charles is renowned as a haven for fishermen, sailors and beach aficionados.
The house has four bedrooms (two w/a queen size bed, one w/two full beds, and one w/2 single beds), one and a half baths as well as a very private outside shower. Blow dryers, dishwasher, microwave, DVD player, DirectTV (in two bedrooms and living room), gas grill and washer/dryer are provided. A playpen, an old time stroller, two baby gates, a high chair and a child's arm for bed are available. Linens are NOT provided. It also has a roomy, screened-in gazebo with picnic table and a porch swing. In the rear of the house is a fish-cleaning station as well as space to park a small boat (24’ for less) accessed by an alley (or park your car). The backyard is fenced in.
The living room, dining room, kitchen and half bath are located on the first floor and all the bedrooms and full bath are located on the second floor. You will be comfortable with central air/heat and the ambiance of a gas fireplace. Only a block and a half from the house is a spacious beach on the bay (two-minute walk) with chair and umbrella rentals.
The Food Lion, an ABC store, a new fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, fast food places and a movie rental store are all within a 10-minute drive. Other shopping endeavors could be antique and specialty shops, fresh seafood, museums and researching the small Eastern Shore towns north of Cape Charles. However, great shopping malls are located just south in Virginia Beach (45 minutes away), with Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens and Water Country U.S.A. only an hour and a half away. North of Cape Charles are Chincoteague, Assateague Island, Tangier Island and other historic and inviting little towns. Any of these destinations make great day trips.
You will cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the south or drive from the north through the marshes, small towns and rural fields. You will feel the quaint, quietness of the past, see the beauty of today while anticipating the encitement and relaxation of tomorrow. |
