Why the Owner Chose Racquet Club Estates
This wonderful vacation home is located in The Racquet Club Road Estates, which were built by the Alexander Construction Company between 1959-1962 and designed by William Krisel of Palmer and Krisel Architects. The first homes at Racquet Club Road Estates were completed in 1959, coinciding with space-age optimism, the apex of tailfins, and the height of popularity of the nearby Palm Springs Racquet Club. William Krisel designed the 1225 square foot houses as weekend getaways. The beauty in these houses, however, is the post and beam construction allowing soaring rooflines, an open floor plan, and an indoor/outdoor relationship to the generous 1/4 acre lots dottted with poodled olive trees and fan palms. Though considered modestly sized by today's standards, the houses are perfectly suited for their intended use even today. Much of that feel is due to the ratio of house size to lot size. With almost 90% of the typical 10,000 sf lot given to open space, the properties feel much larger than they are and are perfect for an outdoor lifestyle.

Five fabulous high school friends turning forty enjoyed a fun weekend in your wonderful home. The “binder” was great. Easy to find everything we needed. Had a great spa day at the Riviera. Enjoyed time by the pool and grilling an awesome steak dinner. But the best was laughing about those “magic fingers!” --Hawthorne High c/o ‘89 Cougars!

Owner response:When we renovated our home a few years back, we took special care in selecting not only "retro" furnishings, but authentic 60''s items such as the Geoge Nelson wall clock and chandelier as well as our vintage couch and chairs. We love coming to our home in the Desert and the feeling we get being in surroundings of a time gone by.

After warm - hot days we are a little sad to go! It has been a wonderful stay. The house is simply perfect. Confession time: I laughed when seeing the note on "how to use the shower [in the guest bath]." Like every true American guy, didn't read it. Big Mistake. I felt pretty stupid trying to figure it out! Of course, then I read them after getting out. Instead of trying my luck again, next time I just used the other shower. Isn't that what 2 showers are for -- the smart well-read ones and the rest of us... ; ) Seriously thank you for all the things like the DVR and I-pod dock. Our son Johnny would like to take the pool with us and says we need to come back for another vacation. Thanks so much.
