The heart of the house is the very spacious great room with floor-to-ceiling rock fireplace and trestle-beam ceiling. Windows wrap around this room, offering forest views from all sides. All three very spacious bedrooms are located on lower level and have 100% cotton linens, down comforters (alternative provided), and dual-control heated mattress pads. The master bedroom features corner windows, Craftsman-style furnishings including a king bed, 19" LCD TV with DVD, and a remodeled bathroom with deep 1930's Kohler tub + shower. The two other bedrooms each have queen beds with heated mattress pads, and share a large Tahoe-inspired redwood bathroom with enormous double shower. There is another full-width covered riverview porch on this level off the central hallway, with a full-sized daybed perfect for your afternoon nap, and additional seating.

Outside, you'll find a private stepped path which leads a few dozen yards through our little forest, and directly down to the river. Use of 2 sit-on-top kayaks, life vests, paddles are all included with your stay during July and August. If you prefer a day at one of the local River "beaches", the house is just a short walk from the very flat and easily accessed Sunset Beach (see our VRBO map), and Mom's Beach, one of the safest swimming beaches on the river.

In the fall through spring, summer tourists have gone home, but for food & wine lovers, these are the best times to visit. Come see the brilliantly-colored vineyards, enjoy lots of one-on-one attention at local wineries, and enjoy temperate weather year-round. January-March, enjoy a free 3rd night or late checkout on your last day. Ask us about mid-week specials.

Westside Road starts near the intersection of Green Valley AVA, Russian River Valley AVA, and runs into the Dry Creek Valley AVA. Explore nearby Russian River, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Sonoma Coast. In Healdsburg, you'll find dozens more wine tasting rooms and some of Northern California's best restaurants including Cyrus, Dry Creek Kitchen, Healdsburg Bar and Grill, Bovolo, Oakwood Grocery, and many more. Grand Riverfront Lodge W/ Views on Famous Healdsburg Wine Road

Year Purchased: 2007

Why the Owner Chose Guerneville

Soaring redwoods and fragrant California bay trees, sun in the summertime, year-round food, wine, and music events, proximity to Healdsburg, Sebastopol, and Guerneville, and a very active local food & wine scene.

We wanted a place to enjoy the relaxed pace of wine country year-round, and not have to spend more than 90 minutes getting there from the city.

Westside Lodge was the find of a lifetime: a well-maintained and upgraded 1936 riverfront lodge-style home on one of the most famous wine roads in California. The lodge/cabin style is really different from being in a "regular" house, so it truly feels like we're far, far away from our daily routine.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Westside Road is one of Sonoma County's best wine tasting locations, and Westside Lodge is one of only a few riverfront homes on Westside Road.

The house is easily accessed from highway 101 in any kind of weather, 5 minutes from Guerneville, 20 minutes from Healdsburg or Santa Rosa, and just 45 minutes from Napa Valley. We love being able to travel with our dog, take walks in the redwoods and down to the river, and explore all the local tasting rooms and farms nearby.

A
MacMurray Ranch (by appointment only)

Many food and wine events, including the Labor Day Food & Wine Event, take place at MacMurray ranch. No drop-ins or public tasting room here. Originally owned by Fred MacMurray of "Father Knows Best"

B
Porter Creek Vineyards & Tasting Room

Don't let the laid-back atmosphere or shack of a tasting room fool you: this is one of the best wineries in the Russian River AVA. Their Pinot and Viognier are excellent, as are all of their estate-grown wines. No snooty counter people here. You will just find outstanding wines poured by friendly, down-to-earth professionals, and they'll probably be wearing t shirts. Can you tell this is our favorite?

C
Hop Kiln winery & tasting room

Beautiful, large tasting room and gift shop stocked with wine-laced mustards, chocolates, and picnic supplies. Very friendly tasting room staff, and some of the most reasonably priced selections on Westside Road. Many of the Hop Kiln wines are made from grapes grown in other parts of California, but you'll also find their HK Generations line, locally grown, higher quality wines.

D
Rochioli Vineyards & Tasting Room

Rochioli is one of the first to plant on Westside Road, and produces critically acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc and other selections. Did you know Joe Rochioli used to farm green beans on the land here? You'll be glad they swapped those crops for grapevines long ago. Smaller tasting room with a view of the vineyards and a petite picnic area outside.

F
Armida Winery

2201 Westside Road Rock and Roll! Armida is the Hard Rock Cafe of wineries here on Westside Road, offering wines like "PoiZin" zinfandel (get it?) in an etched bottle and coffin-shaped gift box, as well as a full line of bedazzled t-shirts, hats, and LA-style clothing. Very fun vibe here and a nice-sized picnic area with a great view of the vineyards below.

H
Twomey Cellars

3000 Westside Road This tasting room has spent a lot of effort to build and run a large-scale, high-end production and tasting facility with great views of the vineyards below. Their roots are in Napa, and we've found the atmosphere here to be less relaxed than many of the other Westside Road wineries.

J
John Tyler Wines

New tasting facility opened by the Bacigalupi Family, who have been farming grapes on Westside Road for over 20 years

K
Williams Selyem Winery (List members only; by appt)

Some of the most awarded Pinot Noirs in the world are produced by this little winery. Incredible wines. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, Williams Selyem List Members only.

N
Thomas George Estates & Winery

This winery is on the old Davis Bynum property, one of the original Pinot pioneers of Westside Road. They're a relative newcomer to the area, but have built a gorgeous welcome center in a spot covered with old oak trees. The best thing about this facility is the full-sized cave they blasted into the hillside next to the tasting room. Check out their website for information about having a winemaker dinner inside the cave!

O
Gary Farrell Winery & Tasting Room

Gary Farrell, this winery's namesake, sold the winery a few years ago, although the wines have maintained a consistent level of quality and critical appreciation. Gary Farrell himself has recently opened Alysian Wines, who released their first vintages just recently. This is the closest winery to Westside Lodge, and because it's the southernmost winery on Westside Road, you'll often get a view of the valley fog if you come around opening time. Very lovely, and highly recommended if you're staying at Westside Lodge.

P
Moshin Vineyards & Tasting Room

Moshin has a great philosophy about winemaking, having built an entirely gravity-fed crushing line. You'll be greeted in the parking lot by the spectacular metal sculpture of a hummingbird. In the summertime, Moshin has an outdoor movie series, where you pay a flat entrance fee for the movie, wine, and popcorn, and can bring your own picnic. Just past Gary Farrel and very accessible from Westside Lodge.

Q
Korbel Cellars

Tasting, tours & picnic grounds. Korbel has been here since the early 1900's, and used to be visited by travelers who took the train up to the Russian River area from the SF Bay Area. They have an extensive tour and a really interesting castle-like property here. If you prefer a little higher-end sparkling wine, we suggest you also visit J Vineyards and Iron Horse, both within a few minutes of Westside Lodge.

R
Johnson's Beach

Great beach to bring the kids, and also one of the starting points for the Vineman Marathon (July)

S
Northwood Golf Course

Recently ranked by Golf World Magazine as the #3 Nine-hole course in America! Built in 1928 by famed golf architect Alister MacKenzie, noted for his work at Augusta National and Cypress Point, and in collaboration with Robert Hunter, this enticing par 36 nine-hole course was originally created for the exclusive Bohemian Club. Today Northwood nostalgically remains one of the most scenic and challenging courses open to the public.

T
Sunset Beach Park (public)

A nice flat river "beach" that's easily accessed from Westside Lodge.

U
DaVero Olive Oil & Wine tasting room

Gorgeous! Stop here to taste and buy olive oil made from olives grown right here on Westside Road. These olive trees are from cuttings the owner imported from Italy himself. There is also a citrus nursery and picnic area here.

V
Healdsburg Bar and Grill

The burger here is the best 8 bucks you'll ever spend. Pair it with a locally brewed beer and fries with truffle oil. The outside patio here faces the square, and is a great place to enjoy the summer Tuesday night concerts.

W
Cyrus restaurant in the Hotel Mars

This is a Michelin star dining experience. Expect to spend around $400-500 for dinner for 2 (tasting menu wine pairing), but you'll remember it forever. Watching your budget? Stop in the bar and have an exquisite hand-made cocktail and a little something from the menu.

X
Seghesio Family Vineyards tasting room

Seghesio is one of the oldest winegrowers in Sonoma County, having started in the late 1800s. They specialize in Zinfandel and Italian varietals. Their "family table" luncheons allow you to enjoy authentic cuisine with other winery guests.

Y
Big John's grocery

Probably the nicest market here that's comparable to Whole Foods. Fresh local produce, a real butcher counter, cheese department, and deli. Good stop for your dinner shoppping while you're in Healdsburg.

Owner's Map of Guerneville

San Franciscans with a taste for great local food & wine and a love of the Russian River Valley.

We had a lovely stay at Westside Lodge over New Year's. The house is beautifully decorated and very well maintained; the thought and love that went into creating Westside are very apparent. And you can't beat the location (walk right down to the Russian River!). If the house were my home, I'd spend my mornings sitting on the porch, drinking coffee and looking out at the majestic trees, and every evening I'd light a fire and thank the stars to have such a wonderful place to live. Can't wait for our next visit!

Westside Lodge is the absolute best place to stay in the area! It is spacious, warm, cozy, beautiful, and surrounded by lush forest, right on the river (with kayaks available!). The lodge is comfortable and well-equipped, with lots of great unexpected touches that made us feel pampered. We plan to make it a regular event to come up to Westside Lodge!

I've been to this cabin a couple of times and love it! My favorite amenities? The mattress warmers...the Boss speakers for my ipod...the fireplace...the porches that look over the river (amazing when fog creeps over the water). Oh! And the heated lightbulbs in the 2-person shower! They put a lot of effort into thoughtful little touches to make your stay cozy. And, meanwhile, you are a stone's throw away from local wineries and hiking. Worth every cent; highly recommended!

A heavenly retreat; a birdhouse overlooking the Russian River. Life is passing by-- and you are in the middle of it's quiet solitude. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit (and the warmth of the fire).

This place rocks! Cozy enough for a couple but roomy enough for six. It’s like being in a tree house from every room. Enjoyed floating down the river (in November) and rushing back to the fireside. Waking up to stillness and drinking coffee on the sun filled deck. An amazing value for an amazing memory.

We have stayed at Westside twice in the past year (including New Years) and had a GREAT time. The weather has been beautiful both times. The views are stunning (the pictures don't really do the views justice) and there is plenty of space inside for a few couples to play and sleep comfortably. This is the only place you should consider staying at if you want to hike on California's beautiful redwood-strewn coastline, enjoy the beaches, and the Russian River. There is a private walkway leading from the house down to a private landing right on the river where you can go for a dip, kayak (the house has one on site!), and fish. I recommend booking in advance to secure a memorable Russian River experience.

Well I just got back from my 3rd visit to this sublime and charming vacation house. I've experienced 3 seasons (so far). The summer is beatiful, river steps away to swim. Fall was perfect, leaves turning in true life-art glory. Winter most awesome snuggling to keep warm and visiting nearby Healdsburg in off-season (a real treat). The main bathroom in the house is to die for and beyond a work of art---I want that bathroom in my house---the tile work alone is a masterpiece. The deck over the river is just fantastic. (Oh, and I do love visits to all the wineries). I can't believe it's only 1 1/2 hours from my house. I will keep coming back again and again. Thanks you guys!!!!!!

Owner response:Guests--To see photos of the incredible Tahoe-inspired big blue bathroom, view the house slideshow. (link on listing)
