This was our first family vacation to Englewood Beach area. There were a total of 10-11 people that stayed in this fun vacation rental. We rented both the upstairs and downstairs units. Darlene was very nice and accommodating during our stay. This rental was very well decorated and clean and steps away from the beach and was equipped with many extras. We had a very nice visit and would very much recommend this rental for anyone looking for a relaxing beach type vacation. We give the view from the upstairs unit's deck a thumbs up!

Perfect Christmas Vacation!

Our family decided to spend Christmas at the beach and we were delighted with our selection of The Mermaid House. The family arrived on Christmas Eve ready to relax and celebrate Christmas together. Darlene was waiting to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. I thought about bringing a little Christmas tree to make the place look festive for Christmas morning, but Darlene had the place tastefully decorated for the holidays. It was a short walk to the beach to watch all of the beautiful sunsets or just hunt for shells and shark's teeth. The kayaking and horseback riding trips were less than a 15 minute drive from the house. Our dog loved going out on the porch, which was possible with the "doggie" gate at the stairs. Darlene went above and beyond to make our stay perfect....even setting up the fire pit for a relaxing evening outside. Thanks for a great vacation! It was just as described and more. We will be back again.

Island vacation! and meet the Family

Everything turned out perfect! The tropical island beach house was ideal for my first visit to Florida from Los Angeles and to meet the family. We arrived late and Darlene was waiting to make sure we got settled (wow that was so nice thank you). She was very accomidating and keeps the place looking fantastic. We did many family activites but I could of just stayed home napping on the covered patio or watching the big screen TV. We could hear the ocean espcially at night, very relaxing It was nice having plenty of parking and no trafic to get here. It was great to experience the gulf coast with the white sand beaches. I've never seen so many sea shells before and we hunted for sharks teeth another first for me. We ate at some of the local resturants that were very beachy and fun (great seafood places). We could of cooked at home more since the kitchen had everything you need. I love mermaids and the house is full of mermaids even the door is eluminated glass with a mermaid carving. Darlene has put a lot of care into the place and she make its very special for her visitors. I highly recomend staying here, it will definatly recharge your batteries even if your with the family! :)

First Class All the Way!

Staying on the island was amazing! The home was everything described and more. Our family reunion was saved by the covered patios and plentiful seating (no rain protection with our original outdoor plans). The tropical weather is great in November the home is so comfortable, we had no reason to leave the house. The beach is steps away where we did lots of shelling and hunting for sharks teeth. I can see how this place is ideal for kids and family being that it is in a very nice neighbor hood. We walked to the local eateries at night and felt very safe. There is almost no traffic in this area we did not hear or see many cars. Although we did not have any pets I think it is great that the patio is gated for pets. The house is truly a gem, private, quite, well equipped for cooking, plenty of parking, steps from the beach, steps from the boats, walking distance to bars and restaurants. This place would be ideal for long visits and I highly recommend for snow birds. We are defiantly coming back for the next family reunion forget the local hotels this place is far better!

Family Reunion

Our stay at The Mermaid House was pure delight. For someone from the Denver Area, it was a real pleasure to be just a few steps to the beach and a 1,000 miles away from the snow. Every day we went to the beach several times and came home with a bag full shark’s teeth. Our trip to Florida was for my Mom’s Birthday, combined with a Family Reunion. In all there were 28 people from 8 different states. Our families stayed at different places along Englewood Beach and also in Venice. In their minds, the quality of our quarters clearly came in FIRST. We visited the places where other families were staying and decided to have our “family events” at the Mermaid House. (We had both the Captain’s Quarters and the First Mates Apartment.) The accommodations were the best and easily accommodated our large crew, even when it was raining.

Family Reunion

We had a great time staying so close to the beach and in such wonderful quarters. We had the upstairs and the larger one on the bottom. Everything was perfect and we were able to have two family Bar B Ques with 28 family members attending from 8 states. Everyone thought we had a really great place and wished they had done as well. Everything was there that you could think of wanting in a place to stay. Better book this place quickly because there will certainly be a waiting line to get in. Thanks so much for the wonderful time and we will be showing pictures to people all over the country.

First time the whole family has had a full weeks vacation in 9 years. Well recommended the apartments are fully loaded and very clean. The owner is very courteous and helpful. The beach is a just right there and it was so beutiful. If you want a relaxing time then this is the place. Highly recommended and we will be back. Thank you for everything.

We stayed in the Captain's Qtrs and it was a very nice place and very clean. The beach was right there and very beautiful. We cooked all our meals there except for 1 night. There is everything there that you would need for cooking, grilling, etc. Darlene is very courteous and helpful. This was our 1st time staying in Englewood and I have lived in Florida my entire life. The porch was very relaxing in the evenings. We will defintely be back to stay again sometime. Thanks,

I thought the listing might be too good to be true but the entire house was artistically charming and well appointed, every detail had been considered, and every comfort provided. We were captivated by the beauty of the area, but even our rainy days were wonderful, bundled up in front of the big t.v."chillin" or reading on the giant lounges on the porch. Our lab Buddy loved it too. My husband is a great cook and he was thrilled with the kitchen and we had some of the best meals ever eating shrimp, crab and grouper from the Island Court right at the bridge. We will look forward to going back.

I have lived in Port Charlotte fl for over 40 years and have stayed at several places on Englewood beach even though I only live 30 minutes away. Darlene"s "Mermaid House" is by far the CLEANEST, most beautifully decorated, equipped with every top notch gadget you can immagine, and the most convenient location I have ever rented. My weeks stay there with all of my 4 sons and their families was just plain awesome! Darlene was always only a phone call away for any type of drama..."Grandma we closed the door downstairs and it locked all by itself!" or "Darlene I can't figure out how to work this netflix thingy". Darlene was always available. She even bought new boogie boards and toys for the children to use. Amazing! I have already reserved our "family time" for next year and we are all looking forward to it. Thanks Darlene for some really great memories. Let's do lunch! Nancy

A great aplace in the sun

Manasota Key is a peace and beautiful place. Direct to a sandy beach, good for all kinds of water activities. Great for children, both small and big. The bay side is also lovely, and full of wildlife, dolphin and birds. Nice restaurants in walking distance. In the Mermaid House, you won’t miss anything here and a very helpful landlord. You can relax and go for great walks. We will be back soon.

Captains Quarters

Very nice property. The unit comes equipped with everything you might need during your stay. Great area, very short walk to the Gulf or Bay. Lots of resturants nearby. A great place to relax and enjoy living on the Key. The property owner is very accomodating.

Great vacation place

We spent two weeks in the Captain's Quarters - had a wonderful time. The kitchen has everything you could want and you are just steps from the beach. Our dog loved it too. Very nice furnishings - beach towels, chairs for the beach , anything you could want for a winter beach vacation. Englewood is very near Venice so there is lots to do in Venice also. Darlene is wonderful to work with.

I stayed in the smaller apt., the deck hand. I loved it. it is just down from the beach, so could walk back and forth all day. very close to the reseraunts, which afe very good. The room has a Murphy bed and a day bed with a trundle. I had my sister, niece and great niece visit and had plenty of room. It also has a wonderful front lani. The nieborhood is so neat. The houses are all painted Fl. colors.Darlene the owner knocks herself out for you. If you mention anything you have it. This ws a very nice place and the price is right..

Having stayed in the two apartments on the bottom floor made us want to retire and stay here forever

The smaller apartment (Deck Hands) is perfect for 2-3 small people, it is colorful, and we loved the mirrors, the wall bed (sleeps really good), and the blind on the sliding door. Having an enclosed front porch with the outdoor shower on the side was "refreshing". We really loved the First Mate's apartment the most. The living room is colorful and spacious enough to spread out a bit. The large tv can easily be seen from the kitchen table (just lay the back of the massage chair down). The kitchen area is colorful and well equipped. The laundry is right there too (Purex 3-n-1 sheets work great when traveling). And then from the bathroom back, it is "restful". The bathroom is huge, artfully decorated, with plenty of towels, wash cloths, and hooks to hang them or clothes on. The bedroom, ah, the bedroom was so peaceful. The king size bed - we slept good, no backpain, no worries. "People"... in the middle of the hot summer and rainy hurricane season, you can enjoy Florida! We went to the beach early 6-7 am until 9-10 am (with coffee in hand to hunt shark's teeth) and came back to shower and rest in the cool (wonderful a/c). Rest...ha! Not when you have a teenager... we shopped "thrift" stores almost every afternoon from Beall's Outlet (the clearance racks were full of good bargains) to Englewood's Goodwill (found some beautiful glassware, scarves, candles, and lots of gently used clean clothing). We went to the Shell Factory in Fort Myers, and a shopping mall a few miles on past it. Then about 5-7 pm, we went back to the beach for more of "How Big Is My God" sightings (turtle nests, dolphins). The tropical depression (#5) that went through was awesome in cloud formation and big waves/high surf.. We'd stay for sunset, then walk back to the comforts of our brief home-away-from-home. And no sunburn, no sunscreen, but still had 4-8 hours on the beach everyday. And our hostess was THE BEST. She offered everything we needed in the apartment and for the beach or the patio areas. She went out of her way to accomodate my entire family, including those who came to visit with us. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Our new retirement dream is to take part in the Turtle Patrol! The cleanliness and safety of this location (inside and out) was provided with the highest standards. Darlene is a professional, but she is also a friend now. We came down for a Memorial Service for my Mom, but ended up having the best vacation of our life.

Highly recommend this house. The town is beautiful and low key, and the house is so comfortable. We rented the whole house and couldn't have had a better time. Only a few steps from a beautiful beach, plenty of places to lay down and relax. Darlene, the owner, was amazing to us and so accommodating!

This place is great. It is even better than the pictures show. She has the best of everything. It is very close to the beach. It is also pet friendly, which is a plus for me. Darlene furnishes everything. Chairs for the beach and for th front porch. Loved the Lock and Key restaurants , which was very close. Can't wait for next year.

We had a great time in spite of the weather. The listing was very accurate with regard to the location, appearance and all of the amenities the owner listed. When we arrived, the "First Mates Quarters" were clean and the owner was there to answer all of our questions. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone, but hope to return ourselves in 2011. We enjoyed being able to fish or just sit on the beach, or to watch the dolphins in the bay. This was truly our best rental property in every way.

Thank you Darlene for making our stay at your lovely beach home so enjoyable. The welcome gift of wine and decorative mugs was so thoughtful. The house is literally three doors from the beach, and we listened to the waves at night from the master bedroom. The kitchen has everything you would ever need for cooking and entertaining. The private courtyard was so comfortable and inviting and the interior decor of the home is so colorful and beautiful. We were so pleased with our stay and we plan to be back soon! Thank you again!

We were so lucky to have found this rental for a family stay in Englewood in October. Everything about the "Captains Quarters" exceeded our highest expectations. The unit featured very attractive, tasteful and up to date furnishings and decor and many high end extras you dont see in rental units. It is also immaculately clean and well cared for. This is the ownder's unit and it is obvious Darlene takes a great deal of interest and pride in her home. Darlene was a pleasure to deal with, friendly, professional and extremely accomodating. Englewood is a great place to relax and enjoy the beach.........and this is a great place to stay.

We stayed in the downstairs units last summer and just booked to stay again in 2010. We loved the units and Darlene! The units were extremely clean and provided anything a person could want including your beach chairs and supplies. The fishing and the beach is just a few steps away. This is our new home away from home.

We will never stay anyplace other then Darlene's beach house when we come to englewood . Why ?? because I know its a home away from home . Its not just another rental . She has top of the line in everything she has . No need to bring beach towels blow dryers, boogie bds , surf mates, all that extra stuff is already waiting for me . And art work from all over . She has great taste in decorating and it is so nice it makes you feel special. 4 ***** great job !

I have been vacationing in Englewood for 7 season's and this is by far the best home I have stayed in for the money . the message chair was GREAT ! And the ex large 12 jet bath was the bomb ! Loved the double bed chairs on the patio . And the first time we didn't have to run to Walmart because we needed something the land lord did not have . We ask for a juicer and was I happy to find the same one like I have at home a Jack a lain . Great place to take a nap after a walk to stump pass. What a place , I will be back . I needed nothing . great place great friendly Street too. firer pit on the beach was great !! love it , love it,

I am using Darlene ,s email cause I am at the property . I am more than happy with our apts we have a great place . full courtyard patio and a bar & grills music out side . the linens and beds are the best ! evertything is so clean . and its nice to have two kitchens and two apts that you just open a door and you can all be together in the day but at night we are all in our own apts with our own tv watching what we each want . I have vacationed in several locations in Fl and this was the most elegant place we have stayed. The view is very beautiful. and only a few feet from the lovely beach. The lady we rented from is very friendly also she picked us up from the airport for a very rasonable fee. This will be a great place for us to rent for a family vacation this year. THANK-YOU FOR MAKING OUR VACATION SO NICE.THE UPSTAIRS WAS JUST BEAUTIFUL. MY HUSBAND LOVED THE JETTED TUB AND THE BED WAS SO CONFORTABLE. MY DAUGHTER AND NIECES REALLY ENJOYED THE EFFENCIE,IT WAS PERFECT FOR THEM. MY HUSBAND AND I HAD OUR PRIVACY AND THE KIDS WAS ON THERE OWN BUT YET REALLY WASN'T.I LEARN I COULD TRUST THEM ALITTLE MORE NOW. THANK-YOU SEE YOU NEXT YEAR CHARLOTTE

We just spent the month of February 2009 in the 2nd floor 2BR/2Bth apartment. We had a terrific time, the porch is great with the huge lounging couches, the view of the gulf, the apartment is nicely appointed with a huge TV and sound system. I would recommend this unit to anybody.
