Incredible Historic Property in Rural France
This property is truly extraordinary— a large renovated old post-house whose every corner has been lovingly furnished and decorated with local collectibles combined with high-tech features (TV, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, etc.…). The heated pool and jacuzzi on the edge of a lovely grassy field with the occasional deer, birds and owl create the perfect rural backdrop, and the house is very family-oriented (with games, stuffed animals. ping-pong table and more). This is the perfect place for any visit, but is particularly suited to multiple families. Hosts were generous and very helpful, providing a wealth of information about what to do and extra services that were available (baby-sitting, masseuse, cook). The little town nearby has a great restaurant, which is easily walkable. Highly, highly recommend!!!

Wonderful 3-generation family vacation place.
We enjoyed Montazeau in spite of the cold, mostly rainy April weather. It is a beautiful , quiet spot, very rural with lots to do in the area. We all wished we had brought more warm clothes because it’s a big stone house and we didn’t want to run the heat in all of the rooms but we kept the big kitchen toasty and spent a lot of time in the hot tub. It has a big outdoor terrace for dining and hanging out. The plethora of kids toys, games, trampoline, and the big kids dorm room kept them very happy and busy. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped and the owners had pretty much thought of everything. We were sad to leave.

Wonderful home in the French Countryside!
We stayed here for two weeks. The first week was with two other couples. The second was with children and grandchildren. It was perfect! The setting is magical - overlooking fields and vineyards. The outside is perfect for al fresco dining. The set up of the bedrooms provided plenty of private space for all the couples and families. Good use was made of the pool and hot tub by all! Iris and Michael were great hosts and attentive to all our needs. They have a relationship with Chef Franck who cooked two fantastic four course gourmet meals for us. He also cooked two meals and left them for us to have for dinner after long days of touring. His meals were some of the best we had in France! The house is beautifully appointed and has a great eat in kitchen. It became our gathering site when we were not sitting outside. Plenty of toys for the children as well as a nice swing set! One thing to remember - like most houses in this region, this house has a washer but no dryer. Not a problem on sunny breezy days - in fact it was lovely hanging clothes to dry on the line outside. However, it can be a bit of a challenge to get the clothes dry when the rain comes - especially when traveling with young children.

Lovely holiday
We had a lovely time at an authentic French house. The space outside was lovely and a huge positive, in particular the terrace with lots of lovely shade from the trees was a highlight. Pool was great and well used. We found the layout a little quirky, with showers in bedrooms and in one case a toilet off the bedroom. We did find we all got bitten a lot by some flying insects during our stay, so lots of insect repellent is needed. We also felt the property was a little tired for five stars and could do with a bit of a refresh for the highest rating. And we hadn't realised when we booked that electricity up to a certain amount was included but you were required to pay a deposit from which the electricity would be deducted, and in the vast majority of cases if you wanted to heat the pool this would end up being an additional expense. I think this could be made clearer in the description before booking (but was mentioned in an email we received shortly after booking).

About the host

We live and work in the South of France since 2005. In the middle of the vineyards of the Dordogne, close by St Emilion, Bergerac, Périgueux, Bordeaux or Sarlat and the Atlantic Coast.

Our adventure started with renting out a few rooms in our house. Step by step we built out our dream….Today we offer our guests a choice out of 5 gîtes, chambre d’hôtes, 2 perigourdine-houses, a village house and a renovated manor house.

Why they chose this property

It was not intentional…but summer 2009, just after the birth of our twin girls, we fell in love….

…the old stones of the mannorhouse “La Chartreuse des Moulins' had seduced us!

After a whole winter of working and renovating, our new project was born in 2010.

230 years ago this big house was an old post “house” with its 2 pigeonniers for the pigeons. Today it has become a luxury guest house.

We kept the old elements of the building and mixed them with new, white, cool and design furniture.

It’s become an ideal location for families or friends. It sleeps from 4 to 16 persons.

What makes this property unique

Chartreuse des Moulins is a charming former post house from 1870 with two towers (pigeonniers = pigeon houses), now a romantic holiday on a spot in the middle of pure nature, with tranquillity and an exceptionally beautiful extensive views.
