This house is great for family reunions. It is very private, located close to and between the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
This magnificent and peaceful 12-bedroom summer house was built in 1914.
Situated above Frenchman Bay with over 12 acres of woodlands behind it, Sols Cliff House enjoys some of the most magnificent views on Mt. Desert Island. On its inland side, the house has views of Acadia National Park's mountains for which the island is so well known. The house is located a mile from Bar Harbor, is accessed by a long private driveway, and offers three floors of comfort and privacy. With 12 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, the house sleeps up to 20 people if two roll away beds are used. It also includes a large dining room, a large living room, library, kitchen, butler's pantry and laundry room, six fireplaces (with the four on the ground floor available for use), a second floor porch overlooking the water, a long terrace along the water side of the house, two sheltered picnic areas in Italian style loggia and a large, detached game house.
As one of the last remaining Summer Cottages that were numerous in the Bar Harbor area before the great fire of 1947, the house still has many of its original details. Various renovations have endeavored to keep the historical character while adding modern convenience.
Total capacity: 20 (if king, queen and double beds have two people each and the two roll away beds are used.)
FIRST FLOOR: Grand, brick-floored entry foyer with fireplace offers splendid views through glass-paneled doors to the brick terrace and Frenchman Bay beyond. Adjacent sitting and playroom for children with television and DVD and VCR. Laundry room. Half bath and small fax room off foyer.

I finally have a moment to sit down and tell you what a great stay we had at Sol's Cliff! The house was wonderful. We had more than enough room with our group of 20. The kitchen and dining room were great for the group. We did cook in a bunch of evenings. The amount of pots, pans, serving dishes, etc. was very accommodating (but a few more larger mixing bowls would have been great). My husband loved the stove, grill and the propane cooker for the large lobster pot. One of my favorites was the view from the cliff. We spent a lot of time out there! Morning coffee, afternoon reading, happy hour and late night star gazing. We had a number of chances to explore the trail down to the water. We even took a late evening hike and saw a fabulous owl on the way back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
