Winchuck River Lodge - Hottub, Beach & River Access
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Minutes walk to where the untamed Winchuck River meets the sea. Deeded beach access and amazing sunset views from the upstairs sunroom. Minutes drive to Brookings/Harbor with fresh fish markets, farmers markets, health food store, shopping centers, and every imaginable outdoor activity you could want. From whale watching to surfing, spend the day on the river and watch the sun set over the waves with campfires on the beach.
Our spacious house has a large fenced lawn area for families to play croquet, Frisbee, or even kick the soccer ball around. The house is the corner lot with lots of privacy on a quiet dead-end street. The circular driveway is perfect for an RV or towing a boat or trailer, and the 2-car garage makes unloading easy. In the warmer seasons with the windows open you can hear the waves lull you to sleep.
Use the built-in basketball hoop and back patio for entertaining, and there are plenty of sunlit rooms for lounging around on your vacation. We use only non-toxic cleaning products, recycled and organic paper products, organic native landscaping, compost, filtered water, and compact fluorescent bulbs. We support local businesses and our welcome binder is filled with local attractions and lists of places to go.
The area is referred to as the "Banana Belt" because of its year round sunny days and warm weather. It is just a few miles away from uninterrupted hiking along world famous Harris Beach State Park, and a few minutes walk to miles of uninterrupted beachcombing. The nearby beach overlooks camel rock and crosses several small creeks to the North, making for beautiful private walks, and some of the best surfing and skim boarding in Southern Oregon.
Some of the coast's best fishing trips start in Brookings, from Oregon's cleanest river, the Chetco, to the Smith, Winchuck, & Rogue River. Guided raft trips, and mellow inner tube floats are a great way to spend the day, and you can even end your Winchuck River trip within walking distance of the house.
My son caught his first trout just a block away from our house, and during Salmon season you can fish all day without even getting in the car. Just keep an eye out for the seals.
The oldest trees on the planet are found within a 30 minute drive to Jedediah Smith State Park, and touching these mighty redwood ancestors is an unforgettable experience. The same distance takes you to Crescent City for all the "big-city" frills like the Ocean World Aquarium, complete with shark-petting and sea lion shows.
Come enjoy the incredible beauty of the Oregon Coast from our warm and cozy cabin. We've done everything to make it feel like a home away from home, and being built by Bob Itzen of Itzen Drive, the solid wood open beams have a history of their own. We even have a little electronic keyboard for your musical sing-alongs, a DVD cable on the DVD so you can watch the photos straight from your digital camera, and a small library of ocean-themed movies, books, magazines, art, and even board games.
So whether you want a romantic beach getaway, or a family friendly vacation, give us a try and you will have the trip of a lifetime.

My family of five was very comfortable and relaxed in this home. It was wonderful for my 3 boys, plenty of room to play, inside and out. We hope to stay again soon!Owner response: Thanks so much, it's the perfect place for kids, and the young at heart too. Glad you enjoyed it.

The beach and river are as close to Wilderness as we could hope for. The forces of nature are strong here. The Winchuck has a calm yet ancient air. Camel Rock and the other islands are memorable and inspiring. The beach is only a stone's throw away, close enough for a morning walk and the an afternoon picnic. The house is really comfortable too!Owner response: Thousands of years of history flow through that undammed river. Salmon have been making that run for millenia, so we are blessed to share it with them.

We had a great time at the eco-cabin! This house has everything you'll need for a memorable vacation. The location is ideal as well; super close to the river or ocean beach. And less than five minutes to town. With two young children it was reassuring to know only non-toxic cleaning products are used. The owners were very kind and helpful as well...we'll be returning soon!Owner response: Thanks, we feel good about having less impact on the Earth too!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: My family and I love the Oregon coast and want to help protect it by using environmentally safe business practices. We use only biodegradable and recycled products, compact fluorescents in all rooms, and recycling/compost of all materials.
Why the Owner Chose Brookings:
Brookings is the warmest place on the Oregon Coast, and the town is quaint and idyllic.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
Great fishing, river swimming, beach walking. Every time you come the beach and river will look different. Last year we were swimming in October and catching fish in November. You can get 70 degree days in the winter and even in the rain there are miles of trails to walk.
