We purchased this 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo because we fell in love with the location and with the light filtering in through the large windows. When not in Vermont we live in Costa Rica and we have gotten used to sun and bright spaces. After renting one of these condos we decided it was the perfect place for our visits back home.
The condo building only has 12 units; it is located on 4 acres of open lawn and large conifers. Looking out of any of the windows one sees sky and pine trees; no mountain views, but the scenery is tranquil and comforting. These condos are older than most, and so lack some of the newer shared amenities like spas and tennis courts. But we hop out of bed and 20 feet away is the six mile Stowe recreational path. We can bike or walk into town to buy a cup of freshly brewed coffee in a cafe on Main Street where we just sit back and enjoy the beauty of this quintessential Vermont village.
Or, we hop out of bed and cross the street to The Harvest Market, where we buy a newspaper and ponder which wonderful homemade bread we should try today. One mile down the bike path is the Watering Hole where we can take yoga classes, swim in their delightful pool or sign up for any one of their varied classes. Restaurant options abound and the Stowe Cinema is a mile down the road (one of the few cinemas where you can order a drink and have it served while you watch the latest Hollywood feature). Best of all, for the skier aficionados, we are only 4 minutes from The Stowe Mountain Resort where you can ski or board the classic and historic Mt. Mansfield or the gentler, sunnier Spruce Peak. It’s all about location, location, location.
And it’s all about “home away from home” in an affordable situation. Because this our home when we are in the States, we want it to feel like a home, not like a cookie cutter, homogeneous rental condo. We have completely remodeled one bedroom and bathroom (the radiant floor heating and extra deep bathtub add a nice touch) and have painted the other rooms and decorated them with some personal items while they await a total renovation. It’s not the Taj Mahal, but we think you will love to hunker down, ski, hike, bike, swim in the cool clean river located behind the condo (or in the pool if you don’t want to meet up with any beavers or frogs) and enjoy this condo as a base for your vacation in beautiful Vermont.
You probably already know why you chose Stowe as your vacation rental: it’s the “Ski Capital of the East”, the Stowe Bike Path is a magnet for recreational bikers and walkers, and the village is picture perfect. But if you want any advice or suggestions, we would be glad to share with you our favorite restaurants, special haunts and little known foliage tours. |
