ACCOMMODATIONS. Poole’s Guesthouse offers you more than a typical Vacation Rental; it is loaded with comfort and charm and similar to a Bed and Breakfast and pension. The difference between our lodging and a Bed and Breakfast, is that instead of us serving breakfast, guests are welcome to bring in groceries and cook ANY meals that they wish in the well appointed gourmet kitchen. With our KEURIG coffee machine you will have a nice selection of Coffee’s and Espresso, teas, hot chocolate and alpine cider which await you each morning.
PRIVATE SPACES. Your room has views of Squaw Valley’s famous mountains and winter ski slopes. We call our lodging Poole’s Guesthouse. Our “Ponderosa King” guestroom has one king-size bed and a large 6 foot octagonal window for looking out over the living room to view the mountain, the winter ski slopes or possibly the sun rising and setting. NO Cleaning Deposits or Security Deposits and you don’t have to spend the last day of your vacation cleaning, as you have to do with a condo or vacation rental… or wonder if the owners will return your deposits.
Long time locals, we are Herman and Ann and we are your hosts; we have our living space on the lowest level of the guesthouse. We are a great resource for information on fun things to do, places to see and wonderful places to dine. This is a great asset for people arriving from outside our area and outside The States. We really enjoy having guests arrive from many countries of the world that are drawn to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area.
COMMON ROOMS. Guests share use of the common living room with a 23-foot ceiling and walls of mostly glass, gourmet kitchen, scenic dining area and laundry room with detergent waiting for you. Everyone loves our panoramic views of the rugged peaks that surround Squaw Valley USA and we have a SPIRAL STAIRCASE that takes you through the three levels of the guesthouse.
PANORAMIC VIEWS. We offer a WONDERFUL LOCATION; less than a mile to Squaw’s famous winter ski area, about 3 miles from Alpine Meadows and within minutes of all the North Lake Tahoe ski areas. Poole’s Guesthouse has beautiful views of the mountains, tall Ponderosa Pines, and the winter ski slopes of Squaw Valley USA. You can see Squaw Valley’s KT-22, Olympic Lady, Snow King, and Headwall. Winter-time, it is fun to watch the people riding up the ski lifts and swooshing down the ski slopes. Wouldn’t it be fun to go Dog Sledding? It is available just about 5 minutes from us. A free shuttle travels throughout the valley about every 20 minutes. Surrounded by six rugged peaks, Squaw Valley USA’s 4,000 acres of terrain provides both tame to the tough ski runs with something exciting for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. It also offers cross county and snowshoeing, ice skating, snow tubing, a climbing wall and swimming lagoon. One convenient rental shop near us offers our guests a 20% discount for non holiday dates on ski and snowboard rentals.
For non-skiers and year-round visitors to the valley, Squaw is a great place to simply “people watch”, get a massage, go wine-tasting, candle making or pottery painting. Visit a variety of quaint little boutique shops, or a Starbucks. Or, simply relax enjoy the comfort of our guesthouse; bring a good book that you’ve been wanting to read.
YES, we offer a GREAT SUMMER SPRING AND FALL LOCATION too! This is Tahoe… where its always a good time to visit! We are near all the fun things to do at Lake Tahoe: bike riding, scenic walking and biking trails, fishing, horseback riding, a swimming lagoon and spa, a climbing wall, a flying trapeze, a ropes course, a variety of outstanding golf courses, miniature golf, a scenic tram ride, beaches, and many boating water activities.
Poole’s Guesthouse has offered lodging since 1993. We have had the privilege of providing lodging for many guests arriving from almost every county of the World as well as those arriving from throughout the United States. Guests often tell us that they wish that they had planned to spend more time at Poole’s Guesthouse because it is cozy and comfortable, has a great location, beautiful panoramic views, and is offered at an affordable price! Once guests find us, its fun to see them come back again and again to this lovely guesthouse overlooking Squaw Valley USA.

Ann and Herman's house is a terrific base for those visiting Tahoe. The location is wonderful for both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. They made us feel like we were visiting family, and they offered many wonderful suggestions during our stay. There are many unexpected extra little touches that make staying with them much more desirable than staying at a hotel. I highly recommend you stay with them if you visit Tahoe!

As worldwide travelers Squaw Valley USA is still our favorite getaway. This Bed & Breakfast (super appliances for you to cook your own Breakfast, lunch, dinner), was by far one of the nicest, Squaw Valley has to offer. The Host are friendly and even gave us a special cake to for our Birthday Celebration. The accommodations are cozy, warm with SPECTACULAR VIEWS!!! This home has terrific parking, 2 min drive to the Village at Squaw, we're coming back soon.
Owner response:Kirk and Krissy, It sure was fun to have you visit us. Thank you for giving us such a great review! And, for writing it so promptly. I am busy taking some additional pictures of our view from the house and got some new pictures of the kitchen that will soon show up on the website. Tell Kirk we got about 8 inches of new snow last night on the trees... and everywhere else. But with no breeze, the trees look so so beautiful. Ann

Home comforts and friendly welcome bring me back year after year. I've stayed here every June from 2006 through 2009 for more than a week each time. A relaxing environment with spectacular views, homely comforts and hosts who cannot do enough for you are just what you need pre- and post-running of Western States 100. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Squaw Valley. Herman and Ann have earned my recommendation to others.

Recently we went down for a ski trip. Great location and easy to get to the hill, restaurants and lake. An assortment of coffee, tea and hot chocolate was pleasant to wake up to. The kitchen was well laid out to make meals with a amazing stove and the bedrooms were private and warm and offered spectacular views. The setting was unique with shared common spaces and if you're fortunate enough as we were to share time with Herman and Ann and other potential guests it makes for an awesome experience. ??I recommend this to any singles or couples who like to be a self sufficient looking for a nice retreat.
