My husband and I spent the month of February at this lovely home. It is very comfortable, peaceful and quiet there. Saw dolphins several times swimming up the creek behind the house. The description is very accurate and the house was all we expected and more. Cindy and Jeff were very accommodating and helpful, as were all the neighbors we met while there. We did quite a bit of sightseeing and there is much history in the area, as well as being just a short drive to St Simons and Jekyll Island, which are both beautiful. Skippers Fish Camp is a great place to eat, (be sure to have the chowder), but Pelican Point is not, walked out, was dirty and just seemed generally an unhealthy place. All in all, a fine place for a vacation.
Owner response:Hey Paul and Charlotte, Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience with other travelers. We haven't been to Pelicans Point in years so it's good to get an update from other folks. When we go down to Darien we have our favorite places that we always frequent, diet or not!! You named a few of them in your review. Anyway, we hope you'll come back and we hope the remainder of 2012 treats you well. All the best, Cindy

My husband and I just returned from a two week stay in this beautiful rental. How wonderful to be able to report that a listing is not only accurate, but even better than described. The house is comfortable, completely furnished with anything you could want and Cindy is incredbily attentive to making sure that we had everything we needed. We had some problems with our boat and Cindy had the answer for that by recommending Rick Caldwell. Cudos to Rick who made a "dockside" call to get us up and running. The views from this house are awesome. It is a great place to watch the weather come in and to enjoy the storms from a cozy enviornment. We didn't get so far as to start a fire in the fireplace but thought about it to enhance the cozy mood. Larry and I completely endorse this rental!
Owner response:It was a pleasure having you guys! Thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again in the future!

A beautiful quiet place for a very restful vacation. We loved the quaint little town of Darien, bought some of the best shrimp I have ever eaten, visited a cute little olive store called Olive Affairs, and ate out once at Mudcat Charlies. The crabbing was great right off the dock, and they were equally as delicious! Our dog especially loved it, and even jumped in the creek once!
Owner response:Thank you! Jeff and Cindy

we had a great time staying here. My husband, son, daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons (4 and 7) had so much fun it was hard to leave. The house is beautiful and so well stocked. the furniture is so comfortable, the living room couch and recliners in the master bedroom are great to fall into at the end of the day. We rode bikes (turtles were along side the road in the mornings) canoed, kayaked fished from the dock, caught crabs right off the dock and even went swimming. we loved to sit in the screened in porch in the morning and evenings. We saw Dolphins at different times in the morning, and a very big turtle was also seen in the water by the dock The neighborhood is quiet and everyone there is nice. It's a short drive to Darien and they have a piggly wiggly for groceries. It is a very easy area to get around also. We went to St Simons and Jekyll Islands. The guys bought a three day fishing license and there is a nice fishing pier on Jekyll Island to fish from. We also went Fernandina Beach in Florida which is about an hour and half drive but worth it. Quiet beach, not crowded and tons of seashells. Stop at the gas station on the corner and get a banana Icee. yum. The Dairy Queen on Jekyll Island was great and had the nicest workers. Skippers Fish Camp and Mudcat Charlies are good places to eat. Again very nice people. Hush puppies at skippers are out of this world good! Also grabbed sandwiches from Larrys Giant Subs out by the outlet mall. Delicious!! If you are looking for a relaxing place to vacation, this is it. So much to do and see and yet one day we just stayed at the house and enjoyed the dock and canoes, fished, rode bikes and looked for lizards. Cindy is great to work with,we had no problems at all. Just what we needed to relax. Also there is plenty of room and places to sleep. The boys loved the bunk beds. Thanks to the Irwins for this wonderful place to vacation. There are also lots of other things to do and see, just a great area to visit.
Owner response:Wow thank you for your review! I usually hear from folks with questions about the area but when I didn't hear anything from ya'll I was hopeful you were out having a good time or just relaxing! I try not to intrude but am available if needed. After reading your response you guys stayed on the run doing a lot. We still haven't seen everything there is to do down in that area. There's so much history and so much you can do in all directions. Anyway, thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to let other folks in on your experience... we really appreciate it. We also hope you'll make it down soon for another adventure.

The house was absolutely breathtaking, these few pictures just dont do it justice. We had a family of six and my 10 month old son. Everything that you could think of, this house has!! The kayaks were fun, the men caught lots of stingrays, crocker fish, and a shovel head shark right from the dock. Saw a manatee, he swam right underneath us. Went shopping in town at the darien outlets, and you have to try the Purple Pickle and B&J's to eat, they are great!! The master bedroom was HUGE, plenty of space. The house has board games, puzzles, and cards to keep the kids busy. There's a pinpong table also. There are two swings on the back bottom deck. There is also a bunk bed in the room with the two twin beds. We had a GREAT time, Cindy was always there to answer any questions I had. All in all, it was so worth it! Be Blessed!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your sweet comments and we are thrilled you guys had a great time! We really do try to make the place comfortable in hopes it will be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience off the beaten path.

AWESOME VIEWS AND EXCELLENT ACCOMMODATIONS. HAD A SMALL EMPLOYEE SALES MEETING FOR A WEEK AND THIS IS A GREAT PLACE. OWNERS ARE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. OFF THE BEATEN PATH IN A BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DISTRACTIONS. VERY CLOSE TO TOWN, BUT WITH A FEW GROCERIES YOU WILL NOT WANT TO LEAVE. GREAT KAYAKING FROM THIS DOCK.
Owner response:Wow, I can't believe it's been almost a year since you stayed at the house! I hope all is well with you and thank you so much for your kind words! We hope we see you again sooner than later!! Cindy

We spent a blissful 2 weeks at the Darien house, and loved every minute of it! Though the weather was steamy, the house was cool and so comfortable, and a welcome retreat after happy fishing time on the dock. We loved kayaking and canoeing around the waterways of the salt march, where we saw dolphins, great herons, hawks and dozens of species of shore birds! The stormy evening sky was a treat to watch every evening from the screened porch, and we barbecued every night on the sun deck. Nearby we found shrimp fisherman who provided amazing Georgia white shrimp, and the local farm stands had the most delicious tomatoes and peaches - the kind we'd only remembered from childhood! The kitchen was very well equipped and every room in the house was beautifully furnished and perfect for lounging. A Jacuzzi tub for two was special treat in the master bedroom. We really enjoyed the area, taking short trips to nearby towns and islands and soaking up the Southern culture. Our host had provided a ton of useful information about fun things to do - but more often than not we were just happy to stay home, cook up the fish we caught, enjoy it on the deck with the gorgeous views, and pretend we never had to leave! We can't wait to return!

If you own a boat, take it with you. Although it is salt water, you can run your boat in fresh water a little bit to remove the salt. This house is excellent! The kitchen, master bed, dinning and living room are on the upstairs level. Your views will be like none other. We saw dolphins every day in the river while sitting on the back porch steps having coffee. I was able to kayak beside a mom and her baby in the river within 50 feet of the dock. You can keep your boat tided up at the dock. You can hop in your boat to run over to Sapelo Island and other islands along the coast that have secluded beaches like Sapelo. (study the tide chart to plan your trip over to the islands so that you leave and come back on high tides. tides change every 6 hours). ABOUT THE HOUSE: I could honestly live in that house from now on. It has a walk through closet that ties the master bed and bathroom to the laundry room, which has a doorway that opens into the side of the dinning room. The kitchen, dinning and living room are open to create one big room with great views across the marsh and Hudson tidal river. The other rooms down stairs are perfect for kids and other couple. The down stairs shower was lined with sea shells by one of the talented locals who still lives just a few doors down the street. ABOUT THE AREA: Shopping, dinning and site seeing area very close to this house. You can be in downtown darien in just a few minutes. Other beaches like Jekyll, St. Simmons and Cumberland area within 45 minutes. Be sure to take an early morning stroll along the paved road in front of the house. If you see a guy walking his two dogs (mini and mullet) be sure to say hey to him. Thats good ole Willy. He and his wife are one of the best couples you will ever get to know. Both are wells of historic knowledge of this area. PICTURES; PLEASE BE SURE TO TAKE A CAMERA! I promise, if you don't, you will regret it. We saw dolphins every day. Some were as close as ten feet away. The SUN SETS are absolutley the best. Sit on the back porch steps and watch the sun set across the marsh. MEMORIES: My wife and I have two 16 year olds and one 8 year old. They all three said this was one of the best trips that we have ever taken. I thank GOD and the Irwins for allowing us to take this trip. Those memories are now firmly set in place for ever. We also were able to share our trip with our friends through the lens of our camera. We will be back next year as well as some of our friends and their kids.

Absolutely loved our stay at Jeff and Cindy's place. They'll give you excellent and easy directions getting there and are always available by phone for any questions or problems you might have. We have a boat so we explored the barrier Islands and spent a day on Sapelo Island on the beach (there's a pavilion and restrooms you can walk to) and we fished all over. The best fishing actually turned out to be right off the dock! Made a day trip to Jeckyll Island to beach it with the grand kids and had lunch at Spanky's for a taste of their famed Brunswick stew. Be sure to become "family" by heading up to Old School Diner for some of Georgia's best fried sea food. Can't wait to go back.

The house is exactly as the photos depict. Tile floors throughout make it very welcoming to the feet after a long day outside enjoying the dock and yard. The house was spotless when we arrived. Everything was in order and easily located. The kitchen is beyond well stocked with cooking utensils. Jeff and Cindy could not have been better owners. The area surrounding the house is loaded with history and daily activities. I would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to relax and unwind. Jeff and Cindy, thank you for opening your house to people. If our travels takes us that direction again we will be contacting you.

Our stay could not have been more relaxing. The house was so much more than we had expected, the area is so beautiful. Everything was provided that was advertised & the house was spotless. Thanks Cindy & Jeff for such a great vacation destination. If you've never been to the Golden Isles in Georgia, it's a must see. St Simon's Island and Jekyl Island are so beautiful and interesting with all the history that comes with it. And that's just the tip of the Iceburg. Can't wait to return!!!

This house is wonderful if you like sitting on your private dock and watching the Dophins go by, the water birds and the beautiful sunsets! Fishing here is also great. Tolomato is a beautiful place to walk and bike. Be sure to visit Darien and go for lunch at the Purple Pickle! The wine shop in Darien is also great! If you love the coast but not the crowds, this is the place!

The house was great! It is so much bigger than the pictures portray. We had a ton of fun cooking together in the fantastic kitchen with EVERYTHING we could possibly need. The house was very clean, beautifully decorated, and a great location. We would definately rent it again. The porches and decks are amazing and the view is fantastic. Had a GREAT time and LOVED the house!
