Watch Hill house description
Located on the corner of Watch Hill Road and Avondale Road, the Grange is one mile from the village of Watch Hill. Enjoy the unique ambiance of the Grange that was a two room schoolhouse built in 1873 then converted into a 4-H Grange, and finally into a beach summer house by the present owner. We are in a quiet, private, neighborhood.
Experience a sense of history and unwind while watching the boats on the Pawcatuck River from the spacious deck. Several marinas are located at the end of Avondale Road where one can enjoy watching the swans feeding and the boats coming and going. Birds and butterflies abound in the garden. Close to Mystic, Stonington, CT; Narraganset, RI; Block Island, Newport, RI and other points of interest.

A Watch Hill Gem
A Watch Hill Gem
There is in this place an old fashioned sense of simplicity that takes you over, the French Country kitchen, the beautiful antique furniture, the Americana quilts the wicker and rattan, are all so welcoming. The place is wonderfully calm after traveling through the nearby towns of Rhode Island. We learned about several of the neighboring areas, Stonington, Westerly, Miscamiquat Beach, Quonset Point, and Newport. I took a walk along the Pawcatuck River every morning and was thrilled to see the swans and their cygnets along the way. We spent a day on the beach a few minutes away; did a walking tour of Westerly, and took a 10 Lighthouse /Newport harbor cruise . A walk out to Napatree point is a must, walking along an unspoiled beautiful stretch of beach surrounded by beautiful dunes was very inspiring. The location of the Grange made it possible to accomplish so much exploring and discovering of all the treasures in so little time. We were never disappointed with any of the fabulous restaurants. The Ocean House is in a class by itself, as is the Clinton Hill House in Newport. Other outstanding restaurants are The Bridge in Westerly, (loved eating right on the river), Dog Watch in Stonington, also loved the Rhode Island Chowder at the Bay St. deli in Watch Hill village. Thank you for the use of your wonderful, magical, charming home. We have stayed at several VRBO properties and this is one of our best experiences and part of the reason is how accomodating and generous the owner Beverly is. She was very concerned about us enjoying ourselves as much as possible and went out of her way to suggest points of interest (besides giving us a little tour of the surrounding area). She was also kind enough to mail some articles of clothing I had left there. She is a very sweet and thoughtful person and I was happy to make her acquaintance.
