David Letterman made the above phrase famous, and most people associate it with comedy. However, let me suggest a different perspective. It is serious business when you and your family choose a vacation destination.

There will be plenty of time for fun and laughter when you arrive, but right now you want to make a good decision that will meet your needs. Instead of trying to ‘sell’ you on our rental, we will simply be delighted if we meet your needs and expectations. Let’s then move forward to having you as one of our guests. Here is OUR Top Ten List:

10. RATES - We are all very much aware of the financially challenging times in which we live. I use to think that no matter how bad times got people will still take their vacation. That is just not true this time around. Inquiries are way down. The only thing I know to do is to make sure I have the lowest rental rates. I have checked and rechecked my competition to make sure I have the lowest price. Now I need your help. It will not do any good to say ‘my budget is such and such, will you give me a 10 per cent discount or $100 off’. If you want a lower price, you must do your homework. Email me the lower price you find and the web link. I need to make sure we are comparing apples to apples. Expect to be rewarded for your efforts with a lower rate than the one you found.

9. PICTURES - Our website has sixteen photos. That is the limit VRBO allows. Whomever coined the phrase ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ was a wise person. VERY IMPORTANT! CLICK ON VIDEO LINK ABOVE FIRST PICTURE UPPER LEFT OF THIS WEB PAGE. THIS HELPS TO TIE IN ALL SIXTEEN STILL PHOTOS.


8. FURNISHINGS - My wife and I live in Davidson, N.C., outside of Charlotte. Our home is beautifully decorated and our guests always love to look around. You can tell from their faces that they are somewhat in awe (my wife cooks too!) We both know the value of quality furnishing. We were speechless when we first walked into this villa. How could an owner rent out such a tastefully decorated home? It would be like renting out the Biltmore Estate.

7. GOLF - (Skip to # 6 if this is not on your radar) My office wall has two certificates prominently displayed for TWO holes-in-one! My words are not those of a novice: directly behind this villa are FOUR of the finest golf courses in this area of South Carolina. Each course was designed by the best names in the business: Pete Dye, Greg Norman, Davis Love III, and Tom Fazio. Should this not be enough to get your heart racing, consider that there are more then 100 golf courses less than an hour away.

6. YACHTS - Those of you who are blessed enough to be pulling up to our villa in a yacht, there is nothing to say here that you do not already know. How wonderful is it to be sitting on ‘your’ balcony looking down on your boat.

5. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION - You have heard the phrase from every Realtor you know - enough said. You are located one half mile to the beach, on the Inland Waterway, next to SC’s largest swimming pool, steps from Barefoot Landing’s Shopping/Eating/Entertainment Complex, and have four golf courses you can walk to out your back door. If you know of a better location than this, please let me know-I’m selling and moving there.

4. HOUSEKEEPING - We have the absolute best housekeeper there is! No one wants to begin their vacation by walking into a dirty place. You will be given the cell phone number of our housekeeper. If you open the door and find the appearance and cleanliness not up to your high standards, please call him, and he will be there immediately to make you happy.

3. LOCKS - Strange thing to put on this list, isn’t it? The locks on this villa are Schlage, the best available. This model in particular is very high tech. The combination numbers will be easy for you to remember, because they are the last four digits of your home phone number.

2. COMMENTS - No owner of a villa in this location could resist embellishing the description of their property. Let me assure you that if there was a club for us, my fellow owners would elect me President. The best source of an honest evaluation of a rental property is from the guests that have stayed there. After reading this, please scroll down to the past guest comments before you do anything else.

Owner's Map of Yacht Club

My name is Peter Cole and I am the owner’s representative. I wear many hats: an oceanfront, resort, rental condo owner; property manager; rental agent; dog tender (That is Woody in the picture. Spends most of his day in the chair across from my desk watching me work.) and favorite; loving husband. As a Medicare card carrying senior, I look back over a full life. My chosen life ‘occupation’ (my Mother could never bring herself to call it a job) was to take teens on cross country camping trips; 3000 teens in all, spanning 33 years. My nephew Doug slipped into my shoes as I slipped into my retirement. My friends and relatives worried about my having too much time on my hands in retirement so they gave me their resort properties to manage. My reputation as a good manager/agent grew. Now 12 properties fill my stable. It was 1967 when I took ownership of my first rental property. In the years since, we have bought and sold 11. I come to you with a lot of experience. I do not take lightly the importance of your vacation. I want to match your needs with the properties I represent. There are 16 pictures, a video and lots of verbiage.     • We stayed at 1505 Barefoot and had a wonderful time. At first we were worried about not being on the ocean, but the view is breathtaking and the condo is wonderful. The pool was all we needed!! Lots of room, no worrying about keys and everyone gets a bathroom. We were also thrilled to have our pet along. It was a very quiet location and we would definitely stay here again. The advertisement is 100% accurate and the pictures are current.

    • We stayed in 1505 at the Barefoot Landing Yacht Club recently and loved the condo! The location was ideal and convenient to the beach along with many fun activities. Upon arrival, the condo was very clean, all linens and towels were in place and entry was not delayed, actually a little early! The pool at the club was awesome! We found this condo to be very spacious, clean and comfortable. We hope to return for another vacation!

    • What a wonderful condo! It has everything you could want or need. My family especially liked the private bathrooms for each bedroom and the convenience of the keyless door lock! We experienced one minor maintenance problem which was promptly resolved by Bill. Thank you Bill! We will seriously consider returning to this unit in 2011 for our son's wedding.

    • This condo was spacious and breathtaking! The decor was superb! The view was fabulous! We loved the pool! This was without a doubt the "nicest and roomiest" condo we have ever stayed in.     • Our family recently spent a week at the 1505 unit and had a wonderful time. It's true - it might seem strange to comment on the locks but once you've experienced the ease of only having to punch in four numbers you'll understand why this is in Mr. Cole's Top Ten list. There were 6 of us in the condo, coming and going at different times. There was never an issue about who has the key or where is the key. It was so easy to punch in four numbers and be able to gain access. I highly recommend staying at this unit. Everything you need - right there.

    • We stayed here in June of 2009 and had a wonderful time. There was much more room for our children to play than we had expected. We were happy to have 3 full bathrooms when we came home from the beach or pool. Everything was just had Peter communicated. Thank you for a great vacation.

    • We rented 1505 Barefoot for a period of 2 weeks from April 11th to April 25th. The condo was (as advertised) very spacious and clean.My wife myself, and 2 Yorkshire Terriers found the location great. I have visited the Myrtle Beach area for vacations more than 12 times.and I would definately return to this condo. It is great value when you compare it to a hotel.We did have to return 2 days early because of the forest fire and power failure, and was pleased to receive a message from C Peter Cole that he would refund pro rated the 2 days that we missed as I had requested. Summary: great value(even with the lousy Canadian $$) great location, and great customer service.

    • We had a great time staying at 1505 last week. We appreciated how nicely it is decorated, not the usual "beachy" decor. Much nicer. I liked that it was an end unit, and the view of the waterway and Barefoot Landing was fabulous. My favorite features are that each bedroom area has its own bath, TV, desk, separate thermostat, and is very quiet and private. This condo is very spacious and perfect for entertaining.

    • I stayed in 1505 Barefoot Landing from 3rd Dec'08 until 3rd Jan '09. Whilst I agree that the apartment is everything that you see in the photos I experienced the worst vacation of my life. Within a few days of arriving I was beng bitten by unidentified insects I tried all kinds of repellants I even sprayed the apartment at my own cost to no avail and during my stay I suffered at least 60 bites. I contacted the owners agent and was advised to call pest control. They came out could not determine what was biting me and on our last eveining in the apartment we found the cause Bed bugs!! We contacted both the agent and the owner who brought in his own pest control who confirmed that this was indeed the case. After a lengthy correspondece with the agent and owner it could not be determined where the infestation had come from. I was assured that no previos residents had been bitten, as there was no way for me to determine that this is indeed the casecase I had to accept this statement. I am writing this review for future residents to know of my case, should they experience bites whilst here

      Homeowner Response:
      Donald and Helen Cairns from Scotland have every reason to be upset. We, the owner and I (the property manager) sympathize with them completely. Their telling of the story is an accurate description of what happened. We would like to add a bit more to give you a full understanding of this very unfortunate mishap. I got a call from Helen a few days after her arrival reporting bites. She first thought they may be mosquitoes. I gave her the number and encouraged her to call the Barefoot Yacht Resort pest control company to arrange for a mutually convenient time for them to come out and re-treat the condo (we are under a monthly pest control contract). He thought he was dealing with ‘no-see-ems’ since mosquitoes were out of season. The bites continued. One odd thing was that her husband was bite free so I suggested she might go to the doctor to see if it might be allergy related. It was not until the very last night of their stay that they were able to catch one of the bugs. They took the bug to our local pest control company who was able to identify it as a ‘bed bug’. In researching ‘bed bugs’ I discovered they are pretty much controlled in the US, more frequent in other countries and very hard to detect in that they only show themselves between 3 and 6 in morning when they came out to feed. Also of interest was that in the US, mattresses were made to completely repel ‘bed bugs’ but not so with box springs. Thank goodness now we knew what we were dealing with. We were a bit disappointed with our local pest control company for not spotting the problem earlier. We went with a State pest control company and had a specialist in ‘bed bugs’ come from Columbia, SC at a cost of $500. He killed all present and to be on the safe he suggested replacing all infected box springs which we did. The big questions: where did they come from and are they all gone. On the first question the technician suggested that since no one who had stayed with us before had ever reported them, he thought they might have come in on surface of the Cairns luggage since they had traveled international, and they were much more a problem in Europe. Regarding the present conditions I have made it a point to talk with each renter since the Cairns have left. No problems to date. We are under a guarantee from the Columbia pest control company. We will act quickly and decisively at the first sign of a problem. We are so very sorry for the tremendous discomfort experienced by Helen. We appreciate how so very understanding she has been. We would love to have them back on their next trip to the States. Peter Cole, Property Manager
