What a fantastic time we had staying at Jim and Cathy’s unit #201 at Sunset Kahili . It was such a relaxing place! The lanai was my favorite place to be. We were able to see the sea turtles below, watch dolphins go by and you can see Spouting Horn in the distance. We were able to walk to Brennecke Beach, Po’ipu Beach and also Kiahuna Beach for some good snorkeling. We also enjoyed hearing the waves crashing below, what a lullaby at night! Seaquest dive shop nearby offers boat dive trips to Sheraton Caverns where I saw hundreds of different colorful fish including an octopus, eels, lots of sea turtles and a puffer fish. At the Koloa Fish Market you can get fresh fish or a meal to go. Their seared Ahi was great, but be sure to bring cash! That is all that they accept. We certainly hope to return for another vacation, but next time it will be for 2 weeks.

March 6-16, 2009 I can't say enough wonderful things about Jim and Cathy's condo (#306) at Sunset Kahili or about Kauai itself! My husband and I came here to celebrate my 40th birthday and it was the best birthday I've ever had (it certainly made turning 40 easy!). The condo was perfect - what a spectacular view, and yes, we saw humpback whales too! The binoculars were perfect. Poipu is an excellent location, especially in the winter. We didn't have the best weather (fairly rainy and cooler), but the sun seemed to shine more frequently in Poipu and on the west side of the island and the ocean was calmer here than on the east and north shores. Our favorite beach was Salt Pond Beach - very private and I saw a monk seal sunning himself there! Golf at Kukuiolono golf course in Kalaheo is definitely worthwhile. A public course for $9 for 9 holes - the fairways and greens are ok and the views are spectacular! A day trip to Honolulu to see Pearl Harbor was also worthwhile, but we were glad to come "home" to Kauai that night. Our favorite part of each day was falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves and the wind through the windows. We'll definitely come back (lots more birthdays and anniversaries coming up!). My husband and I along with another couple, thoroughly enjoyed 2 weeks in this condo. The info provided on the site is accurate. It is quiet, roomy, well furnished and well equipped. The view and location are outstanding. We saw whales from the lanai most days, Poipu beach is an easy walk away. The neighborhood is safe and great for walking. Also the owner was very helpful and easy to deal with.We are experienced travelers so have many previous accommodations to compare this one to and it was excellent.We would recommend it.

Recommended for:Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful both Jim and Cathy and the condo are. My son and I came in this past month and were truly blessed with the whole experience. Jim is so knowledgeable of the area and so accommodating and helpful. The condo is so well taken care of. Everything we needed was there. The view is the best. We explored so much on Kauai in the short 5 days we were there. Things I recommend to do, Kauai Backcountry adventures tubing. What a blast! Make sure Kay is your tour guide. Also HoloHolo charters. We did the sunset cruise to Napili coast. June 15th and we saw humpback whales. How amazing! So out of there season. If you are just looking for the perfect vacation to Kauai then stay at Jim’s place. It is absolutely worth every penny! Thanks so much Jim. We will see you next year!! Tami & Garrett

We really enjoyed our stay here. The ocean looks like it is right next to your window! The condo is very comfortable and well furnished. We could have stayed for a month!

Thank you for the use of your beautiful condo (1br) for our recent trip to Kauai. The apartment went above and beyond our expectations for everything. Upon our arrival, the condo was absolutely immaculate. You have thought of everything in your well stocked home away from home. Jim and Cathy - I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our recent stay in your 2 bedroom unit. Great location, great unit, great facility, great neighbors...the 3 nights we spent was a great way to celebrate my birthday and wrap up our vist to Kauai. Your friends the Hawaiian humpbacks obliged us with ample viewing opportunities. Turns out that our 6 year old is quite the whale watcher! Also enjoyed seeing many sea turtles when looking out from the view area near the grills. We'll be back...the next time we start planning a visit to Kauai, one of the first things we'll check on is the availability of your condo! Thank you.

Dear Jim and Kathy, We so enjoyed our stay! For our 1st time visit to Hawaii we couldn't have picked a better location. Our time at Sunset Kahili condos in Poipu Beach was spectacular! Listening to the Ocean during the evening and watching the sun rise from the balcony in the mornings at breakfast...we are eager to return. We wish we could have stayed longer. Dear, Jim My wife, myself and our 2 years boy had a wonderful time in Kawai, and our stay in your lovely 1BR apt. had a huge part in it. The place was very clean and fully equipped (including beach chairs). The ocean view and relaxing sounds of waves, the morning breakfasts by the lanai and the sunsets, wow, the sunsets! the building is well maintained and the pool looked inviting, though we preferred the nearby Poipu beach with kids' atractions. Thank you for being such a kind host and we look forward for our next vacation in Kahili Sunset.

Hello, Jim We loved ever minute of our six days at the Sunset Kahili. The condo was clean, comfortable and fully equipped with everything we needed. We had fun whipping up our version of "tropical drinks" in the blender and sipping them slowly while enjoying the sunset. We were amazed by the beauty of Kauai, and your condo served as the perfect "home base" from which to launch our daily adventures. We were so busy we didn't have time to lounge around the crystal-clear pool. We will just have to save that one for our next visit! Geoff & Cheryl

As we entered the condo, it felt like we were returning home and had just been away a short time. Everything we needed was right there--snorkle gear, cooler, beach towels, guide books, and a wonderful detailed island map; plus a washer/dryer so don't over pack. Pina colada in hand (yes, there is a blender and ice maker), we were on the deck to enjoy the many beautiful sunsets. A short stroll to two different beaches and lots of history just a short drive away--after all, it is a small island. Ten days wasn't enough. Jim and Kathy's home away from home was also ours. It was also great to be able to work directly with the owner when renting.

Oct. 12, 2005 Dear Jim & Cathy, We were captivated by your lovely vacation home______Hale Honu Kai. We felt blessed when we arrived. The drapes & doors were open on three sides of the condo, showing the sapphire blue ocean & lovely swaying coconut trees right off the livingroom & bedroom. We slept with the doors wide open, feeling the wonderful trade winds & hearing the surf crashing on the rocks below. We got to see the sea turtles and dolphins from the kitchen window and the lanai. We enjoyed swimming in the pool & met some nice people. You have thought of everything.....the beautiful Hawaiian decor, the two ceiling fans, washer & dryer, the wide shower with grab bars were such a help to us & the kitchen was so convenient. We love this place!! The location is perfect, the view is spectacular, the furniture is great, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen has everything you could ever need. Jim and Cathy have provided a home away from home with all the comforts - in the most beautiful place on earth! Every day we visited new and ever more gorgeous beaches, canyons, caves and at night we lounged on the lanai and watched the stars. Plus, easy accessibility for my teenaged daughter, who uses a wheelchair. First, of course, the elevator. Once inside the condo, smooth floors, nice wide doorways to go through and a fully accessible bathroom, including a roll-in shower. There's also a handicap parking spot, which the manager offered to us instead of the unit's official spot. Everyone there was as sweet and helpful as could be. We rented a special beach wheelchair from an island medical supply company (with extra wide wheels to distribute the weight) and Jim was nice enough to call the manager and arrange for him to accept delivery before our arrival. This was the first time since she was small enough to carry that my daughter was able to go on the sand and through the surf. It was an unbeievable thrill for her, and for all of us. Thank you again, Jim and Cathy, for a wonderful vacation. We will certainly be back!

What a wonderful experience we had staying in Jim and Cathy's condo. The condo was so bright, beautifully furnished and so confortable to stay in. The view from the lanai was of the waves crashing on the rocks. The sound at night was so restful. Another view was of the wide open ocean and again the waves crashing on the rocks. It was an easy task getting from the car to the second floor. Parking was so easy and there were carts to use to take luggage to the condo. My sister and I had such a relaxing, beautiful experience.

What a wonderful week we had in your beautiful condo. The sound of the waves and the georgous views were perfect. The condo had every amenity we could want. We had a great time in Kauai and really enjoyed staying in this condo. It's hard to believe that sea turtles are still endangered because we saw so many of them, even from the lanai. The pool and barbeques (propane) were great too.

Sedona was ranked as the #1 most beautiful place in the US by USA Today. But when they asked readers to vote, KAUAI was far and away the winner (and Sedona was second). This was my third trip to the island and I FINALLY found the "best" location to stay--your condo. We had a wonderful trip and it was the great starting point for our adventures, as well as our beach relaxations. We saw whales from the balcony and slept with the doors wide open, listening to the waves and feeling the cool breezes all night. It was fantastic. Thank you!!

What an amazing vacation! In seven days, we did much exploring, hiking, and driving-- packed a cooler and took off for the day to see some of the most beautiful scenery I think I've ever seen in my 31 years. The people, the beaches, shopping, and food were all tops and so accessible within walking distance from the condo if we didn't feel like driving. With all we did, we still had plenty of time to enjoy the condo's ocean view and all the comforts of home. The difference is I woke up completely rested and refreshed every morning to the ocean breeze. Best spot in the complex as far as view I think. I highly reccomend the helicopter tour as well (without the doors) with Nobu. We will be back! Thanks Jim and Cathy for sharing your love of Kauai.
