Special place in the ponderosa pines

Guest: Claire F.
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/23/11

From the moment we stepped out of our car we knew we had chosen a slice of heaven for our family Thanksgiving weekend. The peace and quiet, the smell of the pine trees, and the cozy home exceeded our expectations. The home was well equiped with everything we needed including a wood stove which we used every day. There was a washer and dryer, microwave and everything anyone would need. We were there to take our family to the Polar Express, and we couldn't have chosen a better location. It was 15 minutes from the Grand Canyon Train Station. In addition, it was 5 minutes from a deer farm where our grandchildren could and did feed the deer. It is also about 5 minutes from Bearizona, which regrettfully we didn't have time to visit because our grandchildren were having so much fun playing among the pines. It is less than half an hour to Flagstaff and all its attractions There was a bedroom above the garage which the guys called the "Man Cave" to which they escaped to watch football games without distraction. The owner was very accommodating, and recommened restaurants etc. You will love this house!

Lovely Cabin - Cozy and Comfortable

Guest: Meredith Alger (-)
Date of Stay: 12/09/11 Review Submitted: 12/20/11

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It had all the comforts of home including a full sized washer and dryer, working stove and microwave. The bedrooms were nice sizes as well. There was more than enough room for my family to enjoy. And it was great having so much space to play outside. We really got to take advantage of the snow! Our only complaints were that the master bedroom bedding wouldn't stay on the bed (the mattress pad was very cheap and kept slipping off) so we ended up sleeping on a very scratchy mattress each night. And whoever cleans the house obviously doesn't clean up high as there was caked on dust on the ceiling fans, etc. Also it would be nice if they updated the TV's - at least the one downstairs. It's very small and old. But if it hadn't been for those small things I would have given this rental 5 stars. We would definitely rent here again.

Owner response:First of all I am happy you enjoyed your stay and that you definitely would rent here again. I do agree the mattress pad needed replacing and it was done on the 15th of December. In addition we went out and purchased a long dusting pole to clean the high ceiling fans and lights... Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Most important thank you for your visit.

Beautiful Setting

Guest: Sharon (San Diego)
Date of Stay: 11/05/11 Review Submitted: 11/30/11

Just spent a fantastic week in the beautiful setting of trees and rolling hills. A great place to spend time with family and friends. The house provided all of our needs and even had bits of local information that was extremely helpful. It is secluded but close enough to the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff areas to sight see and shop. We were even lucky enough to see the first snowfall! Very beautiful and peaceful. We will definitely be back!! Thanks, Malcolm, for all of your help!

Amazing Cabin; Great Management!!!

Guest: duG (Clearwater, FL)
Date of Stay: 10/06/11 Review Submitted: 10/17/11

It's only been a week since our stay at The Cedar House and we are still savoring the memories. We brought a small group of young adults from Florida on a church retreat to see & hike into the Grand canyon. Last year we rented a different cabin when I came on a family trip. This year we were looking for a cabin that had more bedrooms than last year's cabin. That's when I found The Cedar House and I can't tell you how pleased we are with the accomodations and the relationship we are building with the owner & management. We had 7 people in our group and no one except me had seen any pictures of the cabin. After flying into Phoenix we drove straight to the cabin and everyone LOVED it as soon as they saw it. The cabin is very cozy, roomy, comfortable, remote, and clean. WE LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!! In fact, we've already signed back up for next year!! There are 3 bedrooms in the main house and a "mother-in-law" room above the garage... we called the room above the garage "The Man Cave" because the guys in the group loved it (it's almost like a small studio apartment, but without a restroom or running water. It has a table for 4, a microwave, sofa, large bed, bean bags, great lighting from large windows & plenty of open space). It was the perfect "Man Cave" or kids hangout or just a nice large bedroom with plenty of privacy. The kitchen is GREAT. We loved the stone flooring & ample room to cook for a group of people (large fridge & freezer). The cabin also has a nice cozy loft upstairs with more room for people to sleep or just hangout. The living room was large enough for our group to meet each morning for Bible studies & chill time at night. Our only challenge at the cabin is that 1 of the restrooms is in the master bedroom so our access was limited to that restroom. We have to come up with a better plan for next year's visit such as having the master bathroom open to the rest of the group from 8am till 10pm and making sure the people who stay in that room are flexible & early risers. I also want to mention what a blessing it was to work with the owner & management. We signed up for the cabin sort of last minute & were late on our payments a few times and they were very gracious to us. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs and we really enjoyed working with them. In addition, we spent 2 days at the Grand Canyon including a 12 mile round trip hike into the canyon. It was BREATHTAKING!! We also enjoyed the Bearizona zoo & restaurants in Williams.

Great Cabin!

Date of Stay: 09/30/11 Review Submitted: 10/14/11

This cabin is fantastic! We brought up a group of 16 guys to stay at the cabin for a retreat for a night. It was in a very secluded, beautiful area. The cabin was very large and had enough beds to fit all of us! It was close to a lot of hiking trails and a lot of things to do. We had a lot of fun, and would definitely suggest it to any group, large or small.

Beautiful house Poor management!!

Guest: Vikash (San Francisco,USA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/22/11

If I were to rate just the House, I would have given 5 star. The house is pretty good with all the amenities promised in the ad. above. But there are some issues with the management that made me reduce the rating to 2 star as it left a bad taste for all of us. BEFORE THE STAY: It all started when I called the owner(malcolm) about little more than a month before arriving at the property. The owner sounded very reasonable and approachable. We wanted to come in late on day 1 and leave pretty early on day 5. So owner agreed to charge us for 3 nights, but charge extra per person night as we were 12 of use at the time of booking. Later 4 people dropped off and our plan changed to just 3 nights and 4 days with actual arrival and correct departure times. This all happened in a day.And i already had 5 missed calls from the owner asking me to confirm the property and pay.So I called the owner and booked the property for 8 people and 3 nights and PAID IN FULL. By then his assistant had prepared the agreement and mailed me with previously agreed amount. The assistant called next day and asked me tochange the charges with whatever was agreed upon with malcolm and sign and return the document.Which I did the very next day. DURING THE STAY: Water ran out on the last day,we kept on calling the owner and the local care taker for about an hour. Nobody responded. We went to a neighour's house, asked for water suppliers number, called him and asked to deliver the water. Then the local care takers and apologized and called the water guy again to deliver immediately. She was actually kind of sweet to us. WARNINGS: 1. Please take pics before you leave the house. 2. dont expect to get all of your security deposit back. The owner WILL find something or the other to take the money from deposit. 3. AT&T does not work in the house. Apparently is Verizon area. 4. No internet, you have to rely on the books and the research you did at home 5. Water is supplied by the water tanker. 8 people staying for 3 nights 4 days with few loads of dishwasher and washing machine would empty the tank. 6. The rates published does not include state tax, while most other property prices listed in this area include all taxes. 7. Most properties charge lesser for security deposit 8. Most properties charge lesser for cleaning 9. Most properties DONOT charge extra per customer. 10. This is actually a 3 bedrooms house with a Mother-In-Law room over the garage, which has no AC or heater. (to be continued)

Owner response:We’d like to first and foremost thank our guest for his stay in our cabin. Also we greatly appreciate his initial 5 star rating. Prior to stay, there are pictures and a detailed description of the property in order to paint a vivid picture of the location you will reside in. If the description or pictures do not coincide with the expectations of our guests, it is understandably their choice to seek other accommodations. However, we are proud to say that most guests report a satisfactory experience. We’d like to sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. Perhaps this error was due to language barriers. We do hope to attract people from distant regions. It is our pleasure to welcome all and find honor if we are your first experience in our country and hopefully not your last. Vacationing, although fun, may bring minor stress which we would like to alleviate, rather than add to your vacationing experience. In order to do this guest contracts are very informative. Part of the contract requests a guest occupancy number. This is standard in every rental or lease agreements in the US. The purpose of this is not to repel customers only to provide a measure of comfort on our part. Times and dates are agreed upon between both parties so that we can give you the service you deserve. If your stay exceeds our mutual agreement we are no longer able to accommodate you with water and electricity. This is why it is imperative to properly read all documentation to avoid misunderstandings. Along with that thought, phone service is not part of the signed contract. That is an entirely separate issue that should be discussed with your cell phone provider. Our responsibilities start and end with everything mentioned in the ad and in the contract. Once again we apologize for any miscommunication, we strongly feel that we lived up to all we stated in the contract and hope you give us another chance. We will make it our aim to be more accommodating to persons who not only speak different languages, but who also come from different cultures and very much would like to thank you again for your stay.

Cozy and plenty of sleeping room!

Guest: Lynn R.
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

We loved this place and would definitely return. With three teenagers who could each have a bedroom, we were all happy, and also our youngest loved sleeping in the loft above the living room. We saw the Grand Canyon (about 1 hr), Painted Desert and Petrified Forest, Sedona, Lowell Observatory and Riordan mansion. Bearizona was entertaining on our first day, especially seeing the baby animals. Our kids got to see hawks up really close at the Arboretum in Flagstaff, during an excellent presentation there. In Flagstaff (15 mins), we had an excellent meal at Josephine's, and a fun meal at Grandma's Closet. These were places we found in the brochures in the house. We bought groceries in Flagstaff, and the house had all the amenities we needed. Very quiet, cool and comfortable at night, even during the heat wave while we were there. The kids always looked forward to getting back to our place at the end of the day, where we cooked dinner, made pizza, brownies, etc. We really felt comfortable and would definitely return.

We came to vacation and get out of the valley. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. We enjoyed rain storms, fresh air and relaxed. We didn't see any animals but it was nice stop between the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Williams. Which we were able to visit all due to the wonderful location of the cabin. Very peaceful, love the location, cabin had everything you could need. Plenty of water, lines, dishes and utensils, etc. Thank you for letting us use the garage to put ours in to keep animals away. We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay.
