Cedar Cabin

Guest: Denise R.
Date of Stay: 05/10/12 Review Submitted: 05/16/12

We were very pleased with our stay at the "Cedar Cabin" We came for my daughters graduation from NAU. It was the perfect place for our family. We loved the peaceful and quiet location. Driving into Flagstaff was only 20 minutes. The cabin was clean and beautiful. We definitely will book this cabin again as my daughter is continuing on with Graduate School at NAU. We will be back! I strongly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing weekend in the woods. This cabin by far is the nicest and most reasonably priced cabin we have ever stayed at. Thank you to the owners.

Weekend Getaway

Guest: Jacqueline G. (Phoenix, Arizona)
Date of Stay: 05/05/12 Review Submitted: 05/16/12

My family and I planned out a weekend getaway to relax and celebrate my graduation from Arizona State University. We decided to venture up North to visit the Grand Canyon. We came across this residence and thought it would be suitable to comfortably sleep our party of ten. When we arrived everyone in the group was impressed by how cute, lovely and serene the entire area was. Inside, we quickly found out that the sleeping arrangement would not be an issue - there was more than enough room. The location was perfect for our drive to the Grand Canyon (it took us about 1 1/2 hrs to get there). We were also able to make a convenient trip to Wal*Mart (about 17 min.) to grab some desserts and beverages. My family and I left that weekend completely satisfied and overall delighted with how the weekend turned out. I would recommend this cabin for a large family looking to spend time together in a cozy location.

Family Grand Caynon Trip Mar2012- Wonderful

Guest: Family Fun (Fontana, CA)
Date of Stay: 03/31/12 Review Submitted: 04/03/12

Our party of ten family members thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. I would highly recommend this area, the house, the management, and the owner for a stay in Williams. After being personally contacted by the owner, we felt very comfortable choosing this property. Somewhat tucked away, but very convenient to the Route 40 and the town of Wiliams. We spotted elk in the 'backyard' (National Forest) and groceries 7 miles or so down the road in the town of Williams. My in-laws stayed in the room above the garage. It was that comfortable and fun. My 12-year old son enjoyed the property, the fire pit, sleeping in the loft in the house, and the elk that showed up in the morning. The stars at night were incredible. The beds were comfortable, the house was warm, and most everything you need is there in the kitchen or linen closets. Long stays are accomodated with a washer and dryer. The town of Wiliams was fifteen minutes away for any conveniences of stores and such. The Grand Canyon Railway is a wonderful way to spend the day and spend some time at the Grand Canyon. The Railway is very kid oriented for those with families. No problems with staying at this property other than we did not want to leave after two days. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Owner response:Thanks for the review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see your family back soon. This is what it is all about.

Disappointed

Guest: Fi (Arizona)
Date of Stay: 02/05/12 Review Submitted: 04/07/12

When booking this house we thought everything was going to be great! Originally we had 16 or 17 people coming with us we were assured that there was plenty of room. Luckily several people cancelled because on arrival we knew straight that there was not enough room for people to sleep comfortably. We eventually made it work. The house is lovely in a nice location and had all the utensils need in the kitchen. On leaving we left the place spotless stripped most of the beds washed all the towels and dried them washed and put away everything in the kitchen vacumed the whole place. Removed any garbage and cleared out the fire pit. A lot more then we should have because we paid $$ towards cleaning. On returning home I then received an email from the management company telling me that the I would only receive 50% of my deposit back as we had left "a rather large mess" behind us. After putting my argument forward I then received an email saying that the full deposit back. Their EXCUSE was that there was a miss communication between management and cleaning crew. We had intended on returning and recommending it to our friends who have also been relocated to the states who intend on doing a lot of traveling while they are here. This is one place that I will NOT be reccomending not for the house only for the management!

Owner response:According to our cleaning crew, when they arrived to clean they noticed that the entire house lights were left on. The beds were not stripped. The kitchen was left a mess. The stove and the microwave were a mess. There were wet towels in dryer with dryer lid open. The door to the garage was left open and unlocked. And they left dirty diapers outside the front porch. We take pictures before and after every visit and can back up every word. All I asked was her to pay $50 out of the $100 deposit toward the mess, as we had to pay our cleaning crew overtime. Although we tried to be fair in this situation, we felt that the customer is always right. Thus told the client she could keep the $50.00. We want all renters to leave on a happy note. Therefore, we returned the whole deposit as originally agreed. Our website clearly states we sleep 14, any additional guest over 14 we tell the guest to bring an airbed or a mattress if they want more to come. I am glad the guest had a great time. The only reason she got mad was I asked for $50 to pay the cleaning crew for the extra mess. The agreement clearly states the guest checkout responsibilities and states that there will be a fee for our cleaning crew if the house is left a mess. The way I look at each and every case is the guests are always right and that is how I left this case.

Lovely Cabin - Cozy and Comfortable

Guest: Meredith Alger (-)
Date of Stay: 12/09/11 Review Submitted: 12/20/11

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It had all the comforts of home including a full sized washer and dryer, working stove and microwave. The bedrooms were nice sizes as well. There was more than enough room for my family to enjoy. And it was great having so much space to play outside. We really got to take advantage of the snow! Our only complaints were that the master bedroom bedding wouldn't stay on the bed (the mattress pad was very cheap and kept slipping off) so we ended up sleeping on a very scratchy mattress each night. And whoever cleans the house obviously doesn't clean up high as there was caked on dust on the ceiling fans, etc. Also it would be nice if they updated the TV's - at least the one downstairs. It's very small and old. But if it hadn't been for those small things I would have given this rental 5 stars. We would definitely rent here again.

Owner response:First of all I am happy you enjoyed your stay and that you definitely would rent here again. I do agree the mattress pad needed replacing and it was done on the 15th of December. In addition we went out and purchased a long dusting pole to clean the high ceiling fans and lights... Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Most important thank you for your visit.

Special place in the ponderosa pines

Guest: Claire F.
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/23/11

From the moment we stepped out of our car we knew we had chosen a slice of heaven for our family Thanksgiving weekend. The peace and quiet, the smell of the pine trees, and the cozy home exceeded our expectations. The home was well equiped with everything we needed including a wood stove which we used every day. There was a washer and dryer, microwave and everything anyone would need. We were there to take our family to the Polar Express, and we couldn't have chosen a better location. It was 15 minutes from the Grand Canyon Train Station. In addition, it was 5 minutes from a deer farm where our grandchildren could and did feed the deer. It is also about 5 minutes from Bearizona, which regrettfully we didn't have time to visit because our grandchildren were having so much fun playing among the pines. It is less than half an hour to Flagstaff and all its attractions There was a bedroom above the garage which the guys called the "Man Cave" to which they escaped to watch football games without distraction. The owner was very accommodating, and recommened restaurants etc. You will love this house!

Beautiful Setting

Guest: Sharon (San Diego)
Date of Stay: 11/05/11 Review Submitted: 11/30/11

Just spent a fantastic week in the beautiful setting of trees and rolling hills. A great place to spend time with family and friends. The house provided all of our needs and even had bits of local information that was extremely helpful. It is secluded but close enough to the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff areas to sight see and shop. We were even lucky enough to see the first snowfall! Very beautiful and peaceful. We will definitely be back!! Thanks, Malcolm, for all of your help!

Amazing Cabin; Great Management!!!

Guest: duG (Clearwater, FL)
Date of Stay: 10/06/11 Review Submitted: 10/17/11

It's only been a week since our stay at The Cedar House and we are still savoring the memories. We brought a small group of young adults from Florida on a church retreat to see & hike into the Grand canyon. Last year we rented a different cabin when I came on a family trip. This year we were looking for a cabin that had more bedrooms than last year's cabin. That's when I found The Cedar House and I can't tell you how pleased we are with the accomodations and the relationship we are building with the owner & management. We had 7 people in our group and no one except me had seen any pictures of the cabin. After flying into Phoenix we drove straight to the cabin and everyone LOVED it as soon as they saw it. The cabin is very cozy, roomy, comfortable, remote, and clean. WE LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!! In fact, we've already signed back up for next year!! There are 3 bedrooms in the main house and a "mother-in-law" room above the garage... we called the room above the garage "The Man Cave" because the guys in the group loved it (it's almost like a small studio apartment, but without a restroom or running water. It has a table for 4, a microwave, sofa, large bed, bean bags, great lighting from large windows & plenty of open space). It was the perfect "Man Cave" or kids hangout or just a nice large bedroom with plenty of privacy. The kitchen is GREAT. We loved the stone flooring & ample room to cook for a group of people (large fridge & freezer). The cabin also has a nice cozy loft upstairs with more room for people to sleep or just hangout. The living room was large enough for our group to meet each morning for Bible studies & chill time at night. Our only challenge at the cabin is that 1 of the restrooms is in the master bedroom so our access was limited to that restroom. We have to come up with a better plan for next year's visit such as having the master bathroom open to the rest of the group from 8am till 10pm and making sure the people who stay in that room are flexible & early risers. I also want to mention what a blessing it was to work with the owner & management. We signed up for the cabin sort of last minute & were late on our payments a few times and they were very gracious to us. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs and we really enjoyed working with them. In addition, we spent 2 days at the Grand Canyon including a 12 mile round trip hike into the canyon. It was BREATHTAKING!! We also enjoyed the Bearizona zoo & restaurants in Williams.

Great Cabin!

This cabin is fantastic! We brought up a group of 16 guys to stay at the cabin for a retreat for a night. It was in a very secluded, beautiful area. The cabin was very large and had enough beds to fit all of us! It was close to a lot of hiking trails and a lot of things to do. We had a lot of fun, and would definitely suggest it to any group, large or small.

Beautiful house Poor management!!

Guest: Vikash (San Francisco,USA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/22/11

If I were to rate just the House, I would have given 5 star. The house is pretty good with all the amenities promised in the ad. above. But there are some issues with the management that made me reduce the rating to 2 star as it left a bad taste for all of us. BEFORE THE STAY: It all started when I called the owner(malcolm) about little more than a month before arriving at the property. The owner sounded very reasonable and approachable. We wanted to come in late on day 1 and leave pretty early on day 5. So owner agreed to charge us for 3 nights, but charge extra per person night as we were 12 of use at the time of booking. Later 4 people dropped off and our plan changed to just 3 nights and 4 days with actual arrival and correct departure times. This all happened in a day.And i already had 5 missed calls from the owner asking me to confirm the property and pay.So I called the owner and booked the property for 8 people and 3 nights and PAID IN FULL. By then his assistant had prepared the agreement and mailed me with previously agreed amount. The assistant called next day and asked me tochange the charges with whatever was agreed upon with malcolm and sign and return the document.Which I did the very next day. DURING THE STAY: Water ran out on the last day,we kept on calling the owner and the local care taker for about an hour. Nobody responded. We went to a neighour's house, asked for water suppliers number, called him and asked to deliver the water. Then the local care takers and apologized and called the water guy again to deliver immediately. She was actually kind of sweet to us. WARNINGS: 1. Please take pics before you leave the house. 2. dont expect to get all of your security deposit back. The owner WILL find something or the other to take the money from deposit. 3. AT&T does not work in the house. Apparently is Verizon area. 4. No internet, you have to rely on the books and the research you did at home 5. Water is supplied by the water tanker. 8 people staying for 3 nights 4 days with few loads of dishwasher and washing machine would empty the tank. 6. The rates published does not include state tax, while most other property prices listed in this area include all taxes. 7. Most properties charge lesser for security deposit 8. Most properties charge lesser for cleaning 9. Most properties DONOT charge extra per customer. 10. This is actually a 3 bedrooms house with a Mother-In-Law room over the garage, which has no AC or heater. (to be continued)

Owner response:We’d like to first and foremost thank our guest for his stay in our cabin. Also we greatly appreciate his initial 5 star rating. Prior to stay, there are pictures and a detailed description of the property in order to paint a vivid picture of the location you will reside in. If the description or pictures do not coincide with the expectations of our guests, it is understandably their choice to seek other accommodations. However, we are proud to say that most guests report a satisfactory experience. We’d like to sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. Perhaps this error was due to language barriers. We do hope to attract people from distant regions. It is our pleasure to welcome all and find honor if we are your first experience in our country and hopefully not your last. Vacationing, although fun, may bring minor stress which we would like to alleviate, rather than add to your vacationing experience. In order to do this guest contracts are very informative. Part of the contract requests a guest occupancy number. This is standard in every rental or lease agreements in the US. The purpose of this is not to repel customers only to provide a measure of comfort on our part. Times and dates are agreed upon between both parties so that we can give you the service you deserve. If your stay exceeds our mutual agreement we are no longer able to accommodate you with water and electricity. This is why it is imperative to properly read all documentation to avoid misunderstandings. Along with that thought, phone service is not part of the signed contract. That is an entirely separate issue that should be discussed with your cell phone provider. Our responsibilities start and end with everything mentioned in the ad and in the contract. Once again we apologize for any miscommunication, we strongly feel that we lived up to all we stated in the contract and hope you give us another chance. We will make it our aim to be more accommodating to persons who not only speak different languages, but who also come from different cultures and very much would like to thank you again for your stay.

Cozy and plenty of sleeping room!

Guest: Lynn R.
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

We loved this place and would definitely return. With three teenagers who could each have a bedroom, we were all happy, and also our youngest loved sleeping in the loft above the living room. We saw the Grand Canyon (about 1 hr), Painted Desert and Petrified Forest, Sedona, Lowell Observatory and Riordan mansion. Bearizona was entertaining on our first day, especially seeing the baby animals. Our kids got to see hawks up really close at the Arboretum in Flagstaff, during an excellent presentation there. In Flagstaff (15 mins), we had an excellent meal at Josephine's, and a fun meal at Grandma's Closet. These were places we found in the brochures in the house. We bought groceries in Flagstaff, and the house had all the amenities we needed. Very quiet, cool and comfortable at night, even during the heat wave while we were there. The kids always looked forward to getting back to our place at the end of the day, where we cooked dinner, made pizza, brownies, etc. We really felt comfortable and would definitely return.

We came to vacation and get out of the valley. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. We enjoyed rain storms, fresh air and relaxed. We didn't see any animals but it was nice stop between the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Williams. Which we were able to visit all due to the wonderful location of the cabin. Very peaceful, love the location, cabin had everything you could need. Plenty of water, lines, dishes and utensils, etc. Thank you for letting us use the garage to put ours in to keep animals away. We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay.

Ownership was a pleasure to work with! Quick responses to all my questions, and every need was anticipated and met! We stayed with another family, and there was plenty of room for all! It should be noted however, that the 4th bedroom is seperate from the rest of the bedrooms, so when staying with small children it is not ideal. The upstairs loft is great fun for the kids, and we all loved the games! This property is absolutely perfect for large groups! Quick ride to Williams for groceries, etc is convenient, but not too close. We will be back! Thanks so much!

The home was lovely and had all the amenities of home. Our family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we had a great family time together. Afterwards, working with management was a major and painful process.

Owner response:First of all I am so glad you loved the house and it was everything you wanted in a vacation rental. The guest and I had a phone chat on Fri, jun 10 2011 around 10am PST and I realized that I may have been a bit short, thus at 3:49pm the same day, I email her back and here is my exact email below: Jan, I am sorry for the way our conversation turned out this morning. Our families wanted to get together and have a relaxed, cozy and fun SNOW time! We found that this Cabin is a great get away from the city and the traffic. It was quiet, it was cozy, it was great for our 8 kids, and for the couples we could not have asked for more. We made our own sledding trail and had fun sledding down the hill and made a snowman! 12 inches of snow! Fresh Air, Beautiful trees! Bedrooms were just right, loft area for the kids was great and safe, washer and dryer! yeah! and spacious living room and dining area too! I am sure that in the summer it is also a great place to be housed in. We recommend cooking anything and everything, great kitchen will all the amenities. Entertainment is OUTSIDE! If you have little ones the cabin has 2 TVS and 2 VCRs! plus Direct TV. It also has board games, card games and colors w/ coloring books! Thank YOU Flagstaff!

We had a wonderful stay at Cedar house. It was exciting to see elk in the back yard almost every morning and evening. A few times we saw 8 at once!! Our family really enjoyed Oak Creek in Slide Rock State Park, Bearizona and, of course, the Grand Canyon. Thanks again!

Children enjoy the cabin!

All five of us enjoyed our stay at this peaceful cabin in the woods. It started raining around 7:30 pm right after we got back from the Grand Canyon. Since it started raining, my sister and I had no time to make smores. Instead we had to make smores in the microwave. If you put a piece of cheese out at night and come out in the morning you'll probably see a crow snatching at it. Had a blast in the woods!

Worst Experience

Guest: TimeTravel (Tempe, AZ, USA)
Date of Stay: 06/12/09 Review Submitted: 08/03/09

Property management lied about damage made to property and refused to pay the refundable deposit back. When asked to show proof of damage, refused to show any kind of proof or list of damages. This is my worst experience renting a vacation home.

Owner response:There is no reason we would have held the deposit unless the claims were verified, this is the first case in 2 years where the deposit was not returned to the client. Unfortunately the guest tried to file a complaint with another agency claiming he had never heard of the cabin and didn't know what it was. Again the reason a deposit is required is to fix damages done while staying there. The only reason the deposit was not returned is because it was needed to fix damages done so other clients may enjoy the house as intended. It is unfortunate that the situation has gotten as far as a complaint, and hopefully this clears the air.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. We totally enjoyed our stay. The area was beautiful, very quiet, and the house had all the necessary amenities. There are toys and games to keep the children and adults entertained.

Over the Easter weekend we stayed at this property from Friday Night to Monday morning. We picked this location to serve as our gathering place for our Wedding that we had on Easter Sunday. Our family was thrilled with the location and most of all the way the house met our needs. Everything was PERFECT. There was PLENTY of room for our family to be comfortable. The bathrooms were great..the kitchen worked out perfect..the land it sits on was full of Elk and Western Bluebirds. We even had a snow storm come through on Friday night. What a pretty weekend. The owner was very easy to deal with and VERY accomodating to our needs. Will certainly use this location again.
