Welcome to Lo Stallino, a beautifully restructured former stable located in the hills of the Chianti region of Tuscany 60 km from Florence and 20 km from Siena. The property consisting of five acres of terraced olive orchards, landscaped gardens, and woods, was originally purchased by an American doctor in 1970 as a retirement home. It is currently owned by his son and daughter-in-law, an archaeologist and a landscape architect, who have completely restored the old stable building as their guest house. It is now a charming one bedroom cottage with beautiful views of vineyards and medieval castles, a private garden terrace for outdoor dining, and a large library of novels and guidebooks.

Lo Stallino also features a new kitchen and bathroom, new upholstery for the furniture, hand-made mattresses for the beds, central heating, a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, satellite TV, and wireless internet access. It is ideal for a couple seeking tranquility from the crowds but proximity to the important cultural centers of Tuscany. There are numerous fine restaurants and wineries in the area, as well as cafes and shops in the nearby villages of Lecchi, Radda, and San Sano. There are also hiking trails and natural pools for swimming in the area.

  • What a wonderful place to stay! It is convenient, classy, cozy, and filled with books and paintings as well as having a fire place and mesmerizing views of the spectacular and unique landscape of Tuscany. And on top of this, it is located in the famous Chianti region close to Siena and Florence. I cannot even imagine a nicer environment for a holiday. It is peaceful and at the same time offers a myriad of intellectual, gastronomical, and spiritual pleasures. Thank you so much!

  • What a wonderful place in which to hide away from the rest of the world. We've had a great fortnight here, whether exploring the local treasures or simply putting our feet up by the fire, and would love to come back some time. Thanks to you all for your hospitality, and to Toby for his particularly enthusiastic welcome. We recommend the restaurant in Lecchi, the cake from the food store down the road from it, and the place that makes giant pizzas, on the left when you come into the centre of Radda.

  • I have traveled many times throughout Tuscany (and a bit around the world) and have rarely found a place as charming, private, well-appointed and well-located as Lo Stallino. It is truly a wonderful retreat... easy to find and yet private in the Chianti hills, and it has so many lovely touches: the book collection, the English TV, and the REAL shower that are hard to find in so many other places! For a couple or two people traveling together looking for a nice private retreat and yet with wonderful hosts (Charles and Nancy do a wonderful job making sure your every need is attended to!!!), I would highly recommend it. Too much of Tuscany is commercialized, or worse - just shabby. This is DELIGHTFUL, a wonderful find in the Chianti hills. For the price, you'd be crazy not to stay here!
