Best place in the World!
Best place in the World!
To think about The House of Bamboo only one word really comes to mind…WOW! The House of Bamboo was simply our very best stop on our extended journey and our favorite place in the world. We have traveled far and wide and nothing even comes close to the House of Bamboo. As we headed up the stairs we knew that we were in for a treat. The landscaping and flowers were literally falling on our heads, truly an amazing garden. Once we arrived at the top we were absolutely speechless. The place is far more grand and beautiful than I ever imagined. Brad picked us up from Savusavu airport and as we were driving through town he gave us the run down on where to go, what to see and where to buy provisions. We were in awe of his knowledge of the island. The information he provided us maximized our time and adventure! Basically our favorite thing was waking up, having a leisurely breakfast outside, either poolside or on the deck. Followed by wonderful snorkeling adventures, literally right out front! Then a soak in the pool, lunch, snorkel, dip in the pool, early dinner while watching the sunset (which is AMAZING) and then maybe a movie! At the House of Bamboo you do not need to leave… One thing I must add is that I have spent a good portion of my life in a kitchen, chopping, cutting, searing, broiling, etc.. You name it, I have probably cooked it to order a myriad of times. I MUST say that the kitchen is spectacular! All the tools you need for gourmet meals are there. I was extremely impressed, the kitchen was above and beyond my expectations and those are extremely high! Everything at the House of Bamboo is completely luxurious and completely spotless.. We will stay there again and we look forward to some day taking some children along with us! This is simply the best place and best value on the island. If you are planning a trip, I would not spend a bunch of time looking at all the options the island has to offer, I would not waste time comparing resorts. I did that and I am 100% convinced that booking the House of Bamboo is the best decision of your trip that you will make. We booked 4 days but should have booked 40. Do yourself a favor and stay here! Also, there is mention of the 100+ stairs up to the house. Piece of cake! I/We would easily climb 100,000 stairs to stay here, it is well worth it. Heck, we would climb 100,000 stairs to look out across the bay! This is simply the best decision you can make.

Such a fantastic place, beautiful views with a relaxing balcony to watch the spectacular sunsets. The house has everything you could possibly need, from fully equipped kitchen to comfortable beds to a great pool for cooling off and taking a break from your book! Brad and Therese are fabulous hosts with nothing being too much trouble. Yes, there are a lot of stairs but for most people these won't be a bother and it is well worth the effort to have a house in such a spectacularly private place with views you can only dream of! We can't recommend the House of Bamboo highly enough and definitely plan to return!! Thanks Therese and Brad!!

Fiji Beach Shack!!
Fiji Beach Shack!!
As an active family of 5, this was an ideal place for us. The ocean was incredible, snorkeling just below the house was easy and beautiful. We had plenty of space, the pool was definitely a huge plus and we were close to town and to the Cousteau Resort where we went scuba diving daily. We had a great trip and would definitely stay here again.

Owner response: Many Thanks guys, glad that you enjoyed your break. Hope to see you again someday.... thanks again for staying with us.
We were 2 married couples and 1 single. 2 weeks from 28 July -11 August 2011. The house was wonderful, exceptionally clean, well maintained, spacious, ceiling fans in all rooms, and great showers, bath with heaps of hot water (gas). The pool and view were to die for. The kitchen was of a very high standard and a pleasure to work in.Super King beds very comfortable. Perfection to say the least! Paliese and Vara came to the house to give incredible massages, Kelisie the housekeeper also came in one night to cook for us, beautiful meal. YUM.Pick and drop off to the airport, excellent and prompt. Taxis easy and cheap to get into town. 99 steps from road to house good exercise, however if you have trouble climbing stairs or have knee or hip problems, maybe these steps are not for you. Thats why there is a pool at the top, you need it! Enjoyed the surrounding area very much, took a leap back in time. There is a book at the house with all details of the area on what to see, where to eat, etc. Read the guest book for all opinions on what one likes and dislikes. Good reviews!! If you want to eat at resort, just make sure you book well in advance. We loved the area and all the beaches, not much shopping to be had, buy your Duty Free alcohol before you leave Nadi, it's a bit pricy in Savusavu. Market fanastic and excellent quality. Attention to detail at the house is very evident, well done Brad and Therese. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us.

What a fantastic holiday we had at the Bamboo House, We had the most relaxing time, reading a book by the gorgeous pool, enjoying superb sunsets and loving the well set up accommodation, we wanted for nothing it was all just so perfect. I loved the decor it was lovelier than I imagined, the bed was soo soo comfy, with beautiful bed linen . We really enjoyed walking into town and being greeting with “Bulla” numerous times from the happy friendly people, the happiness of the villages became infectious and made us think that life did not need to be so hectic. Thank you again Therese and Brad for all your recommendations and help on how to get the most out of our holiday, with lots of great places to see and great places to eat. We were so impressed with Seaview Cafe, the best curry I have eaten in a long while and so inexpensive and enjoyed one or two or three beers at the Copra Shed. The tour of the Pearl Farm was fantastic. Once again it was a wonderful holiday. Not having visited Savu Savu before, it is definitely on my must come again list and sooner rather than later.

BREATHTAKING GETAWAY OF A LIFETIME
BREATHTAKING GETAWAY OF A LIFETIME
On our fridge at home is the saying ' Life isn't measured by the number of breaths you take-but by the moments that take your breath away!' Yes, our breath was taken away (literally) by the time we reached the top of the steps for the first time, but each day we have been amazed by the ever changing views from the verandah, the stunning food enjoyed at surf n turf, fantastic snorkelling at split rock, the dolphin/snorkelling tour in Natewa Bay run by Luigi and Margaret at Dolce Vita, spectacular scenery driving to Labasa, smiles and friendliness of thelocals...... especially the lovely ladies at the council run handicraft store next to the market place, best place to buy from !, Cocktails poolside at Cousteau's. We have had a fantastic stay over Christmas and New Year, it was everything we wanted. Vinaka Vakalevu Brad & Therese, See ya Zack and Ella and lots of pats for Tigerlily !!!!! We look forward to returning to Savusavu very soon.

Relax & Take In Fiji from House of Bamboo
Relax & Take In Fiji from House of Bamboo
The House of Bamboo in Savusavu is a wonderful, relaxing place to be. The house has beautiful views, lots of privacy, is very clean and comfortable. Sunsets can be quite fantastic, so bring your camera. The kitchen is well stocked for your needs and beds are very comfortable. Pool area is also very relaxing. House also has a washing machine (so you can bring less in your suitcase). Host/owners Brad and Therese are very good hosts. They provided great tips on restaurants, where/when to shop, island things to do, and suggestions for taxi and local bus service that come past house. Brad even carried my larger bags up the many steps to house on arrival (which was very kind of him to do). The island itself was very charming and peaceful place to be. We enjoyed SCUBA diving with an outfit in town (who often picked us up by boat) in front of house. We also repeatedly visited some favorite restaurants that offered foods with mouth watering flavors (places suggested by Brad & Therese). In addition to cooking your own food at house, you can also do take out when you want to entirely kick back and enjoy house. You can even find a nice glass of wine to go with your meal or sunset, by stopping in at the wine shop in town. Finally, the Fijians we met and passed out and about were wonderfully friendly, greeting others with "mbula" (giving us a very welcome feeling). If my husband and I are so fortunate to return to Fiji in the future, we will definitely check with Brad & Therese to see if the house is still available for vacation rental.

Owner response: It's always great to hear that our guests have not only enjoyed the House of Bamboo but also all the wonderful things that Savusavu has to offer, especially the warmth and friendliness of the people in town and of course the yummy food and the great diving. Thanks again guys for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you back one day to the House of Bamboo and Savusavu. Vinaka....
From the moment we were picked up by Brad at the airport we knew we had chosen well. After climbing the 99 steps to the house, we looked out at the amazing view, looked around at the beautifully appointed and very comfortable house and the lovely outside envionment with day bed etc and were so excited that we could spend our next 5 days here. Wow. We had such a good time - relaxing, snorkelling and travelling into Savusavu, getting to know various taxi drivers, getting an insight into Fijian life. The House of bamboo exceeded our expectations. Thanks to Brad and Therese and family for their hospitality and friendship.

The Bamboo House is a must! If you are looking for a self-catering spacious home, this is it! We have rented other homes in the U.S. & some have been disappointing. But owners Brad & Therese have made the Fiji Beach Shacks-Bamboo House the cleanest rental home we have ever stayed in. The view is breathtaking, the pool is private, the home is spacious, well equiped & relaxing. They have done a wonderful job & we will look to stay at this property or any other they may have in the future.
