You can enjoy this amazing wilderness setting right from the house, and yet be a half minute's walk from the Log Cabin Cafe, the Silvergate town park, and 2 general stores! Wildlife, world class trout fishing, a family friendly mountain town, lakes, waterfalls, hiking, and even shopping are at your doorstep. You can't find a more desirable proximity to Yellowstone Park! This area of America is has held its character - you'll find caring people, comfort and true American wilderness !

We have a 5 nite minimum stay , and from MAY 18 - SEPT 6 we have a 7 nite minimum. Remember, we have a no pets/smoking policy. thanks !!

Our home, called the Indian Paintbrush, can be rented as either a 2bdrm/1bath, or a 3bdrm/2bath. During peak season, (May18 - Sept6), we only rent this home as a 3 bdrm, Outside of this time period you may rent it as a 2bdrm or 3bdrm. Please see the rate info for both options at the bottom of this listing.

Our home is comfortable, romantic, and just what you imagine when you think of a mountain log home! It has big mountain views, the sound of the creek, handcrafted logs, a huge rock fireplace, large living room and a spectacular sunroom! We have two dining areas, and a bar-height counter for socializing. The home is all on one level. The private deck boasts an unforgettable setting with a pristine forest, creek and mtn view! We frequently see moose eating willows in our yard, summer and winter. This is an ideal combination of mountains and a small village.

As a 2 bdrm home, (this option available in mid season only, 4/1 - May 17 and Sept 7 - Nov 30), each bedroom has a queen size bed. One bedroom has a play loft in it, and the other bedroom has a sink. You get exclusive use of the entire home and property with the exception of the 3rd bedroom. We simply lock off that room and it remains vacant.

If you rent the home as a 3 bedroom, you will enjoy the glorious master suite. It is spacious, with a king size bed, a creek view couch, and a private, 1 person soaking tub on the deck. The outdoor soaking tub is available June 15 - Aug 31. The master bedroom has the sound of the creek coming in it's many windows. It is very private with its own yard and a 3/4 bath. It has fishing just a few steps away and a gorgeous mtn view from the bed!

We also have 2 other vacation homes, all very private, on this large, amazing property. See vrbo #352153 and vrbo #354935.

The Woodland Star (#352153) is our 1 bdrm, bright and sunny log guest house. It's huge bedroom has a king size bed and 2 twin beds. The living room has a sofa sleeper, a beautiful fireplace, and many large windows. The home has a full kitchen, and well as a nice dining area. The bedroom is stunning, with mountain views from the large trapezoid windows. From the king bed you can view snow fields from the towering mtns and hear the creek! Enjoy the outdoor furniture right next to the creek that flows through the property about 50' from the house. People love this home with its bright and airy feel. It rents for $245/night for 4 ppl.

Our one room Cabin, the Mountain Bluebell, (#354935), is a jewel. It sits in a secluded, creekside location with it's deck right over the water! It has a queen bed, a kitchenette with a single burner electric stovetop, a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and apartment size refrigerator. There is a 'full+' bath in the cabin with both a shower, and a fabulous deep soaking tub w/hand held spray. It has a love seat, and a small dining table. This cabin has one of the best views in the valley!! What a place to explore Yellowstone from !! (That is, if you can force yourself to leave the deck)

Our family's vacation homes are situated in the beautiful Silvergate valley, less than a mile from Yellowstone Park, and only a few hundred yards from Wyoming's Absaroka Wilderness Area. Our location gives our guests the opportunity to walk to the town park with swings and teeter totters, walk to 4 different creeks with waterfalls in less than 1/2 hour, fish from the property, and yet be seconds from great food and gift shops! The hiking trail into Yellowstone Park from the cabins is amazing !! After mountain run-off we have a great sandy beach on the property!

The region provides enough variety for weeks of adventure. You will find another collection of restaurants, gift shops, and a larger general store just three miles down the road in the small, 1880's mining town of Cooke City. Some day trips include driving over the amazing Beartooth Pass, described by Charles Kuralt as 'the most scenic drive in America'! Numerous lakes provide great car picnicking, or plan to reach Red Lodge for a game of golf! An hour drive to the West takes you to Mammoth, the park headquarters. A drive through Sunlight Basin to Cody, Wyoming, (80 miles), is a must. Every night Cody offers its professional rodeo with great kids events. Also try the museum, golfing or excellent whitewater rafting in the Shoshone Canyon.

We're confident that you'll enjoy the mountain experience of a lifetime in any of our homes! You can unwind and enjoy nature, float the Yellowstone river, relax in some hot springs, or challenge yourself to new heights. It's all here, and we'll do our best to show you some big, Western hospitality! We are now taking reservations for the 2012 season. Remember we have a 5 nite minimum, and in July, a 7 nite minimum in the Paintbrush. You'll wish you had more! See you soon!

This cabin in Silvergate, MT was perfect for our family get together this summer. The location couldn't have been more ideal - a mile from the Northeast Yellowstone park entrance, with easy access to Lamar Valley and many other beautiful areas of the Park with great wildlife spotting. The owners were helpful and kind, and the caretakers had great local suggestions during our visit. After a day at the park, we loved sitting on the quiet back porch in the sunshine overlooking the creek and looking for mountain goats on the range (you can rent scopes from the General Store across the street). The amenities in the cabin were just what we needed for a relaxing vacation - comfortable beds, a fireplace for chilly evenings, outside campfire for s'mores, cooking basics, and a sunroom and dining table overlooking the creek. Who needs TV & cable when you have all this beauty around you (although we did enjoy bringing DVDs for a few evenings). The friendly, small town (don't miss breakfast at the Log Cabin Cafe) was an extra bonus. We loved our stay, and highly recommend this cabin for 2 - 3 couples or a family.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

Our family of 7 stayed in The Indian Paintbrush. It is a delightful place as pictured and the location is ideal. The scenery takes your breath away. We spent a long day touring Yellowstone Park and after the congestion around the geysers and the lodges, we were grateful for the solitude of Silver Gate. From the house, you can hike to several beautiful spots. One of our hikes was enhanced by a delay when 8 buffalo decided to share our path. So much fun! The Lamar Valley is a pleasant drive where we saw elk, deer, prong horn, bears, osprey, goats and huge herds of buffalo. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare simple meals. However, there are limited groceries available in Silver Gate and Cooke City so you do need to be prepared. If you don't want to cook, the Log Cabin Cafe is just a skip away. The food is good and reasonably price. Cooke City also has good places to eat. Don't miss the Bear Claw Bakery for breakfast. The water at The Indian Paintbrush is excellent so there is no need for bottled water. This house has no tv, no cell service and limited wifi. Three teen-age boys with earbuds as part of their anatomy were a concern. They never once complained. In fact, I think being "unplugged" is what made this vacation so special. All of us would love to return to The Indian Paintbrush.

Beautiful cabin with a rustic feel right on the river. Less than a one minute drive to the best parts of Yellowstone. Saw a fox and a moose right off the back deck, which feels like a dock (its that close to the river). The cabin has everything you could need and then some. John and Kate were great hosts. If you're looking for wildlife in Yellowstone this is the place to be....

We adult siblings gathered here by Yellowstone from the 4 corners of the USA and loved the ambiance of the house. It was only a short drive to the NE gate of Yellowstone, which made it convenient to see the Lamar Valley, but also a long drive to see all the other parts of the park. But a short hike to waterfalls near the house and being on the Bear Tooth Highway was a nice trade-off. We ate our meals and hung around mostly in the bright sunroom and on the deck. The TV didn't have reception (or we couldn't figure it out), and we had to call to find out the password for the internet. No cell phone reception either. Like stepping back in time. Get ready for long drives to see all of Yellowstone. Owners very helpful in allowing Dad's large RV to park right next door.

We loved staying at the Indian Paintbrush. It is a beautiful cabin with outstanding views of the mountains and creek. The best part of the cabin is the creek that runs right in front of the deck. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck, drinking coffee, and watching the wildlife. We saw so many birds, chipmunks, and a deer right from the deck. This is the perfect place to stay since you are so close to Yellowstone. We saw bears, antelopes, wolves, otters, a badger, and so many bison in the park. We bought all of our groceries in Cody on our way to the cabin. We ate dinner twice in Cooke City and it was very good. The cabin was spotless when we arrived and had a fully furnished kitchen. John was extremely helpful when we were planning our day trips. I highly recommend this cabin, it is wonderful !!

This cabin was ideal for our family and friends. It gave us a fantastic home base to do so many things that we love - such as hiking, spotting animals in the LaMar Valley, touring the Beartooth Highway and just plain relaxing! The setting couldn't be more perfect and the cabin is a comfortable and complete! We loved falling asleep to the sound of Soda Butter Creek and waking up to the view of Ampitheater Mt. The owner was great to correspond promptly and answer our questions, a pleasure to work with. We had a marvelous time -even in a power outage! To get away from it all and relax, this is the place to be!

We stayed in the Indian Paintbrush cabin. It was everything they promised and more! John and Kate were amazing host, throughout our stay. The road to Yellowstone had been washed out, and John took the time from his busy schedule to sit down with us, looked over the map and provided us other options to explore. The cabin was home away from home, the wildlife exhilarating and the townspeople feel like family by the time you leave! If you want a place to reconnect with your family this is the place! Have your morning coffee at Silver Gate General Store, dinner at Log Cabin Cafe in Silver Gate or Beartooth Cafe in Cooke City. Get your groceries at Cooke City General Store (it's like stepping back in time). Visit Yellowstone Park as many times as you can, we recommend the book Yellowstone Treasures by Janet Chapple to throughly enjoy the park as it guides you every step of the way. White water rafting at River Runner of Wyoming in Cody, go to the Cody rodeo. We look forward to going back next year.

We stayed in the Indian Paintbrush in August 2010. The website information was perfect and helpful. The owners sent pictures of the rental property as we requested and they were very helpful in making our decision to reserve the home. John and Kate were waiting for our arrival and spent time explaining how to make a fire in the fireplace (aka Montana t.v.), where the best hiking trails were, where to eat and buy supplies. The house was very clean and had all the necessary items, microwave, washer/dryer, and enough space to sit or dine. This property is worth every dime you spend on it, I would stay here the rest of my life if I could. A big thank you to the owners for giving other people the opportunity to enjoy all that this place has to offer. The Bish, Andersen, and Hoffer families.
