This charming 1840's farm house is perfect for one or two couples or small family. The Cape Cod Canal is just a mile away and perfect for biking, fishing or just walking and taking in the view. Nearby are several nice local beaches or a little farther are more well known beaches including New, Old Silver and Scussett Beaches. A country food store is 1/2 mile away. There are several nice restaurants (within 10 minutes)including the well known Chart Room, The Silver Lounge and The Sunset Grill. Historic Sandwich and Falmouth are 15 minutes away. The Island ferry's are 15 - 30 minutes away.

My family and I really needed a quick late summer vacation from NY in august so we looked at the Cape. This was my fourth full-week home rental (second VRBO one: Folley beach, other ones at Martha's Vineyard and the East Hamptons). The key difference here is we decided to go a little more "budget" this year then usual and go directly through an owner rather than a managed property. Bottomline: it was decent overall but there were a few negative experiences that left us with a bad taste at the end. Hopefully this review is informative to others. Pro: the property looks like the pictures- pretty charming, which is what we wanted. Cons: the amenities list seemed decent but when we got there, we found the VCR there was broken (tape still jammed in there- blamed on the previous tenant) and there was no "wireless" Internet as promised in the ad- only a couple of land cables. The VCR would have been useful as we have a two year old. I am careful in my business (finance) so I took pictures of the problems and immediately notified the owner. These actually would have been fine except when I reminded the owner over a month and a half later that I still had not heard of my deposit, i was sent a check minus $35 for trash and extra cleaning charges. I don't like surprises and would rather have the fee included beforehand and know about it. About this, first, the amount was not a big deal (i would rather not deal with the owner further) but I was puzzled about the explanation as my wife and i cleaned the house carefully (more pics) when we left a few days early. Second, I question how much alleged information he got from his cleaning crew nearly two months later when I reminded him about the deposit. Third, the guy actually had the chutzpah to argue the missing items. I may be harsh but I believe the common theme is a low budget operation and i'd recommend this only if the price is right and you dont mind the structural problems.
Owner response:The trash fee is in the lease. They did not clean up after their child period. Our rule is leave it like you found it and he was notified on check in. In his defense the VCR was jammed and the router was missing. He had to use a cable we supplied to hook into the modem for his computer. We offer a beautiful home with great privacy but sometimes you get low rent renters. This is our first tenent issue in 10 years of doing this so we don't feel too bad.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, age 55+.

My wife and I stayed at this property the week just prior to Memorial Day weekend 2010. We had a fantastic time and Rick and Mary Kolbert are wonderful. The house was immaculate and beautiful, the property gorgeous and location fantastic. Highly recommend!!!!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.
