Location: Centro Historico, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Central Mexico, Mexico (5 blocks from the Jardin and La Parrochia, near Biblioteca) View Map
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Office, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-5)
Keywords: House in Centro near the Jardin, email or telephone owner Stephanie at sdericksen@gmail.com, US phone 707/942-4425, US cell 707/758-8949. I am currently seeking a long-term renter, and also prefer short terms for no less than one week.
CASA DE LA PUERTA ROSA-The periwinkle blue house with a magenta pink front door makes this house easy to spot. All new furniture, a light and airy house 2 blocks from the Artisanos Mercado, a huge colorful outdoor market with hundreds of vendors selling their arts and crafts, plus several flower and vegetable stalls.
The house has many skylights, concrete floors and counters mixed with contemporary upholstered furniture, and Mexican antiques. The large dining table can seat up to 8 persons.
The rooftop garden is large, overlooks the city, and seats 6 persons on scrolled iron garden chairs and a chaise lounge for 2.
The little "privada" - a private street - offers the perfect location as well as easy walking to all parts of Centro.
There are numerous small restaurants nearby, and the fine dining of San Miguel is a 5 min. walk. You will find restaurant recommendations/tours/guidebooks at the house, plus the excellent Visitors' Center in the Jardin has many offerings. Nearby are the hot springs and good horseback riding. Each Fri. you can purchase Attencion, the weekly English newspaper, in the Jardin, which gives you all the events, gallery openings, concerts, theater and nightlife for the coming week. Walk 3 block to the Biblioteque(library) to discover various cultural events taking place there, and to meet other English-speaking residents and visitors, as well as enjoy the beautiful little courtyard cafe there. My FAVORITE lunch cafe across the street from Belles Artes is La Vida Buena with their fresh, homemade breads, croissants, rolls, baguettes and sweet rolls, plus delicious salads. Feel free to contact me with any special questions.
Enjoy the gorgeous new 5'x8' original painting, "Adelita," one of the Solderas who fought in the revolution with Pancho Villa and Emiliano Vasquez. This piece is one of the new works of Merry Calderoni from her show in Oct. 2010 highlighting these brave and fierce fighters. You can meet Merry at her studio at La Aurora, the art center just a short walk from my house.

Pretty Cozy & Private, Apr-May Available Last Minute Okay!
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico
Perfect for walking to the Mercado, the Jardin, La Aurora, the Biblioteca, a family neighborhood with lots of variety, as well as our "dead end" little street, hmmm, is "dead end" in Spanish, "ultima calle muerto?" Probably not! By the way, there is a language school just around the corner.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Convenience, pretty rooftop terrace, wonderful home for entertaining. With the bedrooms downstairs and the open kitchen, dining and living rooms upstairs with lots of light and French doors, it's a bright and airy life style. On this visit a new large original painting adorns a 2-story wall and adds a note of history to the house.
Owner's Map of Centro Historico
I fell in love with San Miguel de Allende in 2007, and like many other visitors decided I must have a home here. After looking at houses, and various locations for a few months I decided I wanted to be close to the Jardin, and to be able to walk or take taxis rather than owning a car. My house on Animas, Segunda Privada, has been the perfect choice for me, and I will never regret making the leap of faith it requires to buy property here. I spend part time in SM and the Napa Valley. A good life!

UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE

LOTS OF CONFUSION ON PAYMENT TERMS, WHICH WAS A CHECK AS REQUESTED BY THE OWNER. SINCE WE LIVE IN MEXICO IT WAS MADE CLEAR THAT A CHECK WOULD TAKE TIME TO ARRIVE, BUT, DURING OUR STAY WE RECEIVED MANY E-MAILS STATING THAT THE CHECK HAD NOT ARRIVED. THE PROPERTY IS SET ON A DEAD-END ALLEY WHERE DAILY AND NIGHTLY A GROUP OF 10 OR 12 CHILDREN CONGREGATE TO SCREAM, PLAY, AND BOUNCE SOCCER BALLS OFF THE WALLS FOR HOURS AT A TIME. NONE OF THE REMOTES IN THE HOUSE HAD BATTERIES. THE WASHER AND DRYER WERE BROKEN. MARIA THE HOUSEKEEPER ONLY ARRIVED AFTER I WENT TO HER HOUSE AND ASKED HER TO PLEASE REPLACE DIRTY TOWELS. I NEVER SAW OR SPOKE TO THE CARETAKER. HAVING LIVED FULL TIME IN MEXICO IN THE HISTORIC CENTER OF MERIDA, YUCATAN, AS WELL AS CENTRO IN GUADALAJARA, I AM ACCUSTOMED TO NOISE, THIS EXPERIENCE ADDED A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO "NOISE". I DO NOT SHARE THE OPINIONS OF THE OTHERS WHO RESPONDED TO THIS REVIEW SECTION. WE LEFT THREE DAYS EARLY AND CHECKED INTO A BEAUTIFUL BED AND BREAKFAST.
Owner response:This is the first complaint I have ever had in 4 years of renting, and I never heard directly from these renters. If I had I would certainly have tried to correct any problems. Any confusion on payment terms resulted because I never received the check until the renters had vacated my property. The washer was broken during this time, but my maid, Maria, was kind enough to do all the laundry at her house across the privada until the new Bosch door arrives. The Bosch dryer works fine. My street is called a privada, as anyone who speaks Spanish would know, because it is just a one block lane with large, lovely gates at the end. My house description states that I live in a Mexican neighborhood from choice, and I enjoy the children(and occasional rooster). Please note positive reviews, thanks.

Very comfortable and there is lots of space and light. (we were, at the most 5 people staying together) Loved that it was in a Mexican neighborhood and close to the marked.

Your house is beautiful and so comfortable. We loved the location and being so close to many of the highlights in San Miguel was wonderful. Maria took great care of us, and so did Javier, your house manager. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
