Location: Nevada City, Gold Country & High Sierra, California, USA (10 Minutes to Downtown Nevada City)

Accommodations:  Cabin, Studio, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

TARA is a cozy, romantic and elegant cabin. Located in the Sierra Foothills at about 2500 feet elevation, it is 650 square feet of charm nestled into a pristine private sanctuary of 30 acres of pines, cedars and oaks. Situated above Rock Creek, there are granite swimming holes below, waterfalls, and large flat rocks for sunbathing. This is a “too good to be true” place to get away from it all and have it all to yourself. The only sounds you will hear are birds singing and water tumbling in the creek. A cathedral of trees caresses you as you sink into the solitude.

Late Fall and Winter can offer sunny, chrisper days for exploring the town, hiking or walking around our beautiful area, returning to a cozy woodstove fire and maybe a glass of wine.

The cabin is one room with beam ceilings and wood floors, surrounded by windows with green tree-filled views and creek frontage. We have unsurpassed beauty in all directions from windows and decks. The cabin has french doors that open onto multi-leveled decks in back overlooking the creek.

You will immediately know you have made an excellent choice when you see and feel what TARA is offering.

Whether you choose to relax on the deck, dip in the swimming holes, sunbathe on the warm rocks in warmer months, or venture out to explore the historic sites of the Gold Rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, you will be enthralled by the relaxed pace and ambience of the area. Nearby, you can visit the old gold mines at Empire Mine State Park, or at Malakoff Diggins. Or visit the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport and see the covered bridge, scenic river overlooks, enjoy hiking trails, and incredible swimming holes, some with beaches. There is swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking at nearby Scott's Flat Lake as well. There is also Yuba River access at Purdon Crossing out Rock Creek Rd. near the cabin.

The cabin is currently available all year round. We reccommend 4 wheel drive for visiting during the Winter, particularly if heavy rains/storms or snow are in the forecast. Roads to Tara are well-maintained by the County, and passable for any vehicle most of the year, even if it is raining. The cabin is 1/2 hour to snowshoeing and cross country skiing up Hwy. 20, and 45 minutes to Royal Gorge, Boreal, Sugar Bowl, and Donner Ski Ranch.

Nevada City, a ten minute drive away, has great shopping, and a variety of excellent eateries, from upscale fare to informal dining. The town also features live theater and music, bookstores ,outdoor cafes and art galleries. It is well worth a visit to take a walking tour of this historic and charming Gold Rush town, have a bite to eat, and perhaps have a wine tasting at a local winery shop.

Grass Valley, like Nevada City, has many buildings dating back 100+ years, and is just a 15+ minute drive from TARA. There are charming shops, restaurants, the old Holbrooke Hotel, a movie theatre, antique shops, and two Cornish Pastie establishments, serving the favorite of gold miners long ago. The Center for the Arts is located on Main St., presenting wonderful live theatre and multi-cultural music events with top musicians.

    • WoW! What a find. This place is a gem. I'm back a week and still feeling the serenity of my week at Tara. It was as if a perfect little house was dropped at a perfect campsite with the option of going to town in minutes. We chose to see no one for the week and we saw no one. We will definitely return. A+++

    • We spent two wonderful days and nights at Tara. We didn't see another soul the whole time we were there and thoroughly enjoyed the house and the river. The river has some great rocks, pools and sunning spots, and the house is extremely well equipped and comfortable. We'll be back.

    • My husband I were married at Tara just a few weeks ago. I cannot say strongly enough what a magical place this is. It is completely peaceful, private, and stunningly beautiful, with river rocks to be explored, wonderful waterfalls and swimming holes, and a huge deck with a grill, lounge chairs and an expansive view of the forest and river. Our ceremony was in the meadow below the house, and the wedding pictures we took there and by the river are stunning. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable, with every possible convenience. It is also beautifully designed and decorated- clearly a labor of love. We feel so lucky so have been able to share this special place and look forward to coming back for many years.

    • Words cannot express the waves of peace that washed over us the moment we found ourselves under the idyllic watery paradise of Tara's spell. At once enshrouded in the sublime soft loveliness that only 30 acres of untouched rushing rivers and forested wilds can boast, we were returned to our original nature, as Tara would I'm sure have had it! Such healing waters I have rarely experienced and we were thrilled as pool after pool revealed themselves to us as we adventured down-river to at last arrive in the quintessential Eden. More than a getaway cabin in the woods, this airy, high- ceilinged gem, equipped with everything a couple could ask for (with a delight of specialty items in cupboard and fridge no less) was a true sanctuary, coveting us away from the craziness of the world in what was among the most deeply restorative, romantically inspiring, spiritually potent weeks of my life. To come to Tara is to invite regeneration of the most profound to body, mind, and spirit. Trust you will be greeted by the nature spirits that abound!

    • My husband and I spent four nights at Tara in May. The cabin (more like a beautiful small home) far exceeded my expectations. The home itself has everything you could want or need. I was concerned about light since it is in the woods, but trees have been cleared to allow lots of light inside the cabin, which has many large windows so you feel like you are outside. The large deck looks down on the creek and you can hear it inside the cabin, which makes for peaceful sleeping. I needed a relaxing getaway and this was one of the most relaxing places I have ever been. We saw no other people, even at "the baths", which are great swimming holes elow the house. I would highly recommend Tara to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in a beautiful location. I also wanted to add that dealing with the property manager was a pleasure. she answered my many questions and left us with a wonderful welcome basket of edible treats, including homemade cookies!
