I am a Nevada County resident and environmentalist that thinks, "why travel a long distance for a vacation getaway, when one of the most beautiful places on the planet is right in my own back yard." This magical retreat is the perfect place to get away from the busyness of every day life and reflect on just how good it is to be alive on this magnificent planet!

My husband and I chose to spend our 1st anniversary at TARA. We were totally able to disconnect from phones, computers...any and all distractions. It was a wonderful retreat for us. Thank you, Linda for the extra care you put into making our stay memorable.

We enjoyed peace & restoration at Tara this August. Completely surrounded by nature, not another person or home in sight, this is pure relaxation! Bring your groceries and you're all set for your stay here. The kitchen is gorgeous and very well-equiped. If you're here in the summer, enjoy floating in the creek pools, reading on one of the many expansive decks, watching families of deer or wild turkeys cruise by, listening to the sound of the creek at night, relaxing in the (new) hot tub, long sunsets and complete privacy. We're already plotting a return! Highly recommended.

That about sums it up! Arrived at Tara's cottage for an extended weekend, stressed and burned out and returned refreshed, relaxed and renewed. The cabin was nothing short of quaint, charming and romantic; beautiful wood throughout, well maintained, clean and completely stocked. While photos typically portray the very best of a place, and indeed the cabin was exactly as pictured, the most spectacular part of Tara's is the vastness and beauty of the grounds. We lived on the deck enjoying the sounds of the river, the smell of the great outdoors and the stars at night. It was a very warm weekend and the creek below with private swimming holes provided us with the perfect opportunity to cool off, read in the shade and wade in the sandy bottomed pools. To top it all off, a basket of goodies with all the right stuff awaited our arrival and the property manager was very pleasant to work with and provided excellent directions. Looking forward to a return visit and making this our little special getaway to escape the world and reconnect with nature and eachother. Thank you for a truly wonderful weekend. Would highly recommend to any couple desirous of a secluded, romantic getaway full of nature without skimping on the luxury. Perfect!

I went here with my girlfriend recently, because we were both so stressed out that we just needed to get away from it all. We were so eager and excited based on the pictures and description, but we were still pleasantly surprised with what awaited us when we got to TARA. As soon as we opened the front door of the cabin, we knew this is exactly what we needed. We did not leave the property for the 4 days we were there, there were no cars, no lights at night, we went to sleep every night to the relaxing sounds of a rushing river, and we did not see a single person during our entire stay. We turned off all of our cell phones, put away our watches, and unplugged the clock. We woke up and went to sleep with the sun, and planned the day by the movement of the shadows. Our only regret is that we were not able to stay longer, and we very much look forward to coming back some day.

My husband and I were looking to get lost in the forest for a weekend of romance and decompression. We were not disappointed! We arrived to this one room cabin and were charmed before we even entered by the quaint surroundings and personal touches. Once inside, the clean and polished interior was immediately welcoming. The gift basket was a nice touch, as we enjoyed the wine and then a soak in the hot tub in the snow. Afterwards, both of us fit comfortably in the tub for our candlelight soak! The gourmet kitchen gave us all the tools we needed for us to spoil ourselves with steaks, strawberry french toast, and other yummy creations. The wood stove kept us warm and snug cuddled up in the soft and cozy bed. We were fortunate enough to have snow during our stay. The beauty of the woods surrounding us became breathtaking when it turned into a winter wonderland. I have to say that the creek (full and noisy during our stay) was relaxing to both watch and lull us to sleep. If the weather hadn't been rainy and snowy, we would have spent much of our time on the deck. We've had good experiences with vacation rentals in the past, but we really couldn't have asked for more for our trip. It has been a while since we've had a chance to spend some time away, and being totally secluded was just what we were looking for. The privacy added to the romance! Linda, the property manager, was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. In addition to her help over the phone, we were left with detailed directions for all the appliances, wood stove, and best ways to deal with anything in the cabin. Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend!

We just got back from a long end-of-summer weekend at Tara and are already looking forward to our next visit. We brought some yummy food and were pleased to find a well-equipped kitchen to prepare it with. Frequent walks to the sunning rocks and pools in between reading books while a rain storm passed by...totally relaxing and we didn't see a soul. Thanks for sharing this special retreat in the woods.

Wonderful cozy yet modern cabin. We spent our days hanging out at the waterfalls/pools reading, swimming and relaxing and our evenings on the deck. The soothing sound of the water is always in the background. Can't wait to go back and I've already recommended to friends.

My husband and I went on a short getaway to Tara for his birthday. We had visited the cabin before renting and got a really good vibe from our quick chat with the property manager. We loved our stay, the peace, the woods, the river, the glimpse of a deer, frolicking in the waterfall, bliss. We also liked the cabin, it was perfect for the 2 of us. The only downside is that it's really hard to leave.

WoW! What a find. This place is a gem. I'm back a week and still feeling the serenity of my week at Tara. It was as if a perfect little house was dropped at a perfect campsite with the option of going to town in minutes. We chose to see no one for the week and we saw no one. We will definitely return. A+++

We spent two wonderful days and nights at Tara. We didn't see another soul the whole time we were there and thoroughly enjoyed the house and the river. The river has some great rocks, pools and sunning spots, and the house is extremely well equipped and comfortable. We'll be back.

My husband I were married at Tara just a few weeks ago. I cannot say strongly enough what a magical place this is. It is completely peaceful, private, and stunningly beautiful, with river rocks to be explored, wonderful waterfalls and swimming holes, and a huge deck with a grill, lounge chairs and an expansive view of the forest and river. Our ceremony was in the meadow below the house, and the wedding pictures we took there and by the river are stunning. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable, with every possible convenience. It is also beautifully designed and decorated- clearly a labor of love. We feel so lucky so have been able to share this special place and look forward to coming back for many years.

Words cannot express the waves of peace that washed over us the moment we found ourselves under the idyllic watery paradise of Tara's spell. At once enshrouded in the sublime soft loveliness that only 30 acres of untouched rushing rivers and forested wilds can boast, we were returned to our original nature, as Tara would I'm sure have had it! Such healing waters I have rarely experienced and we were thrilled as pool after pool revealed themselves to us as we adventured down-river to at last arrive in the quintessential Eden. More than a getaway cabin in the woods, this airy, high- ceilinged gem, equipped with everything a couple could ask for (with a delight of specialty items in cupboard and fridge no less) was a true sanctuary, coveting us away from the craziness of the world in what was among the most deeply restorative, romantically inspiring, spiritually potent weeks of my life. To come to Tara is to invite regeneration of the most profound to body, mind, and spirit. Trust you will be greeted by the nature spirits that abound!

My husband and I spent four nights at Tara in May. The cabin (more like a beautiful small home) far exceeded my expectations. The home itself has everything you could want or need. I was concerned about light since it is in the woods, but trees have been cleared to allow lots of light inside the cabin, which has many large windows so you feel like you are outside. The large deck looks down on the creek and you can hear it inside the cabin, which makes for peaceful sleeping. I needed a relaxing getaway and this was one of the most relaxing places I have ever been. We saw no other people, even at "the baths", which are great swimming holes elow the house. I would highly recommend Tara to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in a beautiful location. I also wanted to add that dealing with the property manager was a pleasure. she answered my many questions and left us with a wonderful welcome basket of edible treats, including homemade cookies!
