Absolutely Wonderful Place to Stay!

Guest: Andy (Cartersville, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/17/11 Review Submitted: 09/13/11

We were needing a get away from the daily grind and found it at Star Catcher's Retreat. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made the right choice. The views were amazing, the cabin was spotlessly clean and extremely well thought out. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals, that were enjoyed on the spacious decks overlooking the valley below. We made a trip to the local grocery store and loaded up with fresh produce and meats so we could prepare our food at the cabin, on the gas grill, while enjoying the views and spending family time together. In the four days we were there we only had one meal that was not eaten outdoors and that was due to an afternoon rain shower. There are many attractions for the whole family within a short driving distance and then you can come back and soak the sore muscles in the hot tub in the evening. We were so amazed at how well the cabin is maintained and laid out. There are 3 bedrooms, each with their own private full baths. This is so convenient for a group of three couples. The game room with the ping-pong table was so much fun in the evenings. There are so many things to do, I'm not sure why there is a TV in the cabin. We never turned it on! A short drive away is Cherokee. We went to the river and let our daughter play in the cold water after we made a visit to the Cherokee Indian Museum and visited some of the shops. We returned to the cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed more unbelievable mountain views. The ride up to the Cataloochee Valley for hiking and elk watching was priceless. We were there in July and the elk calves were wondering around in the fields with the bull and cow elks. It was so nice to see this majestic animal making a comeback to this area. The elk were brought in to this park in 2001 and are doing well in the Cataloochee Valley, the herd is around 140 strong at this time. If you need a get away from the normal hustle and bustle, make this your destination, you won't be disappointed. This is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been and we will be back again, soon. Andy M. & Family

We had a great time at this cabin; The mountain view is spectacular, it's 5 minutes from Maggie Valley; has good front/back porch, bar-b-que, super clean hot-tub, great bed. Kitchen is well stocked with pots/pans, good equipment, even has a separate room for ping-pong! Well worth the money. Very clean. Maggie Valley has great amenities/entertainment, etc.

Truly Million Dollar Views

Guest: Jean, Melanie, Paul--CJ and Lucy (Fayetteville, GA)
Date of Stay: 08/30/10 Review Submitted: 09/11/10

My Mom, Paul and I took our 2 dogs and stayed the week(8-30 to 9-6-10). My mom's only request for a cabin, was that it have "fantastic mountain views". This cabin exceeded all of our expectations.Cherly/MVP was a joy to work with, provided answers to all of our questions and answered my emails within 2 hours of hitting send. The drive up to the cabin was awesome!!-made my mom nervous with the grade and winding switchbacks - but Paul had a blast testing the 4-Runner's abilities! The cabin was a bit stuffy on arrival, but we opened all of the windows and it soon cooled off. The mountain air, breezes and cabin_window views will be sorely missed!! The cabin meets all of your needs-beds comfy!. We enjoyed Waynesville on Tuesday and an awesome lunch at the Sweet Onion. Their crab cakes were to DIE for, the French Onion soup was authentic and Paul's meatloaf "sandwich" was delicious. Don't miss J Arthur's for Prime Rib (we went back twice) (don't waste your time at Hurley's) For Barbeque, it is WELL worth your trip to Fat Buddies in Waynesville. The service was awful, but the BBQ is really, really good. We shopped in Waynesville, Cherokee, MValley - but if you are looking for jewelry - a remembrance of some sort, don't miss that little purple shop on Soco Road just down from MVP properties. I have NEVER seen such an awesome inventory and they have some really, really special, beautiful pieces. On Sunday, we rode over to Cherokee (unfortunately-very touristy), but we had a blast mining at the Smoky Mountain Gold and Gem mine. My mom had the most fun. She and my daughter both found some really nice stones (make friends with the guys there and they will help you fill up your bag) Don't forget to rummage through the trough - folks throw away lots of nice stones. Mom and Morgan had their emeralds cut and mounted and the stones came yesterday..not bad looking. I found some nice pottery in the Native American Craft shop in Cherokee and discovered "white buffalo" turquoise - I regret not getting a piece. We also got to veiw the Elk grazin in an open field just after the new HSchool location. Paul and I did tour Biltmore, but I think it was highly overpriced! $140 for 2 just to get in the gate. We most enjoyed the hunt for waterfalls (Looking Glass Falls and Moore Cove), Hiking with the puppies, Rock Crawling in Paul's4Runner, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Hot Tub, and the hummingbirds at cabin. Trying to talk Paul into Christmas in MValley!

Perfect Secluded Getaway

Guest: Joe and Stacy (Wichita, KS)
Date of Stay: 06/07/10 Review Submitted: 06/28/10

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Starcatcher’s. We had a fantastic time! The cabin is beautiful, so much space! Everything seemed brand new and very clean. This is a cabin that has everything, and each part of it was thought out- you can tell that no expense was spared; with tile and wood floors, a hot tub, dishwasher, and satellite TV! The views are indeed spectacular, and the cabin is incredibly secluded- trust me you can’t see or hear anyone close by. The drive up the mountain on the drive way is fun, with many switchbacks cut through the trees and up the mountainside- the cabin is so far above the road (which you can’t see at all from up there) that we never heard a car drive by. The cabin is an easy drive down the mountain into Maggie Valley, only about 5 minutes. About 30 minutes to the entrance to Great Smoky Mountain NP, and the drive is on the beautiful scenic parkway. We really enjoyed driving that every day to get to the park. Our one trip all the way to the Gatlinburg side confirmed our choice to get away from all the commercialism and tourist traps- we were so glad we didn’t get a place in the busy and loud city where everyone else seemed to be staying. We loved everything about the cabin- and we will be back!
