We stayed in this beautiful apartment for several days to celebrate our anniversary in San Francisco. I am so glad we decided to stay here vs. a hotel. The apartment is in a great location, close to everything with easy transportation. The apartment itself is elegant and well appointed. It has charming crown molding throughout the unit and a pretty bay window. There are beautiful antiques throughout the unit and very nice oriental carpets on the floor. Very tastefully decorated. We have stayed in other rental apartments in the U.S. and abroad and this unit is by far the nicest. Very charming, comfortable and a great value. We highly recommend! Thanks for the great stay!

Reading some reviews would lead you to believe this is a cosy, antique-laden hideaway in a pretty part of Nob Hill. It isn't. It is dilapidated, not very clean, and situated on a busy corner where the passage of people, trolley buses and trucks bring a level of noise through the ancient windows that is, on occasion deafening. The photographs of the apartment are flattering. They don't show that the few windows that are not completely obscured by trees are clouded by street grime. Nor the layers of dirt on the louvre blinds and paintwork or the dust in corners of the rooms. It appears that the rooms were reconfigured for photographic purposes because the layout is quite different now. Because something is old, doesn't make it antique. A delaminating and rusting bath is unpleasant; peeling paintwork may be passed off as shabby chic but it isn't good in a bathroom. A curtain arrangement round the bath that feels like showering in a plastic bag is awkward and uncomfortable. 'Antique' dressers with drawers that require brute force to open and contain evidence of previous guests are not 'cute'. Door locks that require the skills of an experienced burglar even with the keys are simply inconvenient. Minimum equipment is provided, no hand soap and a paucity of cleaning materials stowed under the kitchen sink alongside a used lavatory brush. When we asked about an electric kettle we were told they were sold in local stores if we wanted to buy one - nice. But entirely in character - the owners recommend their guests ask the concierges of Nob Hill hotels for local information rather than offering the suggestions that we received everywhere else on our travels. The noise in the apartment makes it impossible to spend an evening in (one reason for renting for a week). The building is old with sash windows that don't baffle the noise at all. The corner is a stopping point on a busy trolley-bus route. Chico's Market across the road is a magnet for all the loud people in the area. There’s constant traffic noise and a the local fire truck passes several times a day, sirens blaring. Internal noise is not much better. Guests are asked to avoid disturbing the residents of the building - a courtesy that is not reciprocated. Noise travels through the walls and floors and a window that looks on to what appears to be an internal ventilation shaft. It will come as no surprise that we would not recommend this apartment to our friends - or even people we don't like very much.

Owner response: This woman rented an apartment in the middle of the city and then complained about traffic and pedestrians, as though we were supposed to block the streets off during her visit. She rented an apartment with character in a 100 year old building in a charming residential neighborhood and then complained that the windows were old. (All the windows work perfectly.) She complained there was no tea kettle, when there was one sitting in the middle of the stove, albeit an artful one not a $10 KMart model. She complained that there are trees on our street. She got a 10% discount off our normal rate and expected the place to be a new construction luxury apartment. And on and on. The apartment that will satisfy her is not available at the price she is willing to pay, if it exists at all. We try hard to please all our guests and accommodate their needs whenever possible, including early check-in, late check-out, etc. I'm sorry we could not please this guest. Our other guests' reviews and high occupancy rate are testimony to the value and enjoyability our apartment offers in an excellent and convenient location in Nob Hill.
My Husband and I came during Labor Day weekend and we had a great time! The property is clean, has a grocery store nearby, and the deck has amazing views! Plus the bed was super comfortable! The tenants were extremely helpful and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. We had a great time here and would recommend this place to anyone who was visiting!

I am not normally a review writer, but felt I had to after reading Button12's review. I cannot disagree more with them. The apartment is outstanding. It's in an amazing location, away from the highly tourist area of Fisherman's Wharf, whilst only being a cable car ride away. The area has great amenities, lovely restaurants and bars. The apartment is beautiful. The furniture sets it off and really makes this apartment, giving it a proper San Francisco feel. If I return to San Francisco, I'd have no hesitation in staying here again, or recommending it to others.

We really enjoyed our stay at Jonathan and Laura's apartment. The furnishings were a beautiful mix of antique and contemporary. I cannot believe that we lucked into such an elegant and perfectly located apartment for such a reasonable price. We have traveled all over the world staying in vacation rental properties and this was one of the very best. Gorgeous apartment, great amenities and perfect location!

We stay here for about four days, finally decided to submit a review. The photos are not accurate;the furniture is dated and in poor condition. Did not get a good night's sleep the bed mattress were worn out, the noise level was like the Indy 500 day and night. The tv and accessories were so old, Goodwill probably would not accept. The dishes were chipped, dangerous to use. Oh, it was a nightmare to get the owner to correct our double billing. But thank God they finally corrected the accounting. Even the bath tub was chipped, needed resurfacing. The best thing was Internet access. We would have checked out the first night, but not financially wise. Therefore we suffered and we never so glad to leave a place before. Under no condition would we recommend this place. If offered free stay, we would decline.

Owner response: We try hard to take all comments seriously and improve our service for future guests. This review, from a visitor over one year ago, is a bit beyond what we would expect from a seasoned traveler. I guess this visitor has never stayed in an inner city apartment before. Our neighborhood is much quieter than many in SF, especially considering it’s in a downtown location. The accidental double billing was due to a transition in property management where the new person charged her without realizing the other person had already done so. The error was promptly fixed. Regarding the age or quality of furnishings, the sofa and bed were purchased brand new when we purchased the apartment 4 years ago. Most other furniture is good quality visually pleasing antiques. My wife would never let a piece of junk through the door. Most rental apartments contain used furniture; people don’t shop at Ethan Allen to outfit a vacation rental. Perhaps next time this guest would prefer to stay at the Ritz Carlton or the Fairmont 3 blocks away, where she can have the same street noise and the same older furniture in a room half the size without a kitchen and pay twice as much.
Really great spot!

My mother and I stayed in this apartment for three nights recently to see The Nutcracker and SHOP! Union Square was within walking distance, but we still took a cable car because SF hills can be a bit much. The owners were so helpful and easy to communicate with, and the neighbors were very considerate and friendly. Transportation was easy – cable cars, electric buses and taxis were all easily accessible and cheap! We actually found that taxis were the most convenient and least expensive for short trips. There was a little corner market right across the street that we visited several times for Haagen Dazs and champagne. The apartment was super cozy, nicely furnished and clean and the building felt very safe. I would recommend this apartment to anyone planning a mother-daughter weekend or any kind of girls getaway. Thanks Laura and Jonathan! We'll be back!

Perfect Apartment Rental
Perfect Apartment Rental
We just returned from a 4 night stay at this fabulous San Francisco apartment! The building is clean, safe and centrally located. The apartment is gorgeous and feels like home from the moment you walk in. We loved every minute of our time in this amazing city and the apartment was a large part of what made our vacation so perfect. Laura was so easy to deal with and was prompt in replying to our emails. The apartment will not disappoint... it is even more beautiful in reality than it looks in the photos! I recommend this rental to anyone looking to "live like a local" in a fabulous San Francisco neighbourhood. Close to transit(we rode to a Giants game), theatre (we walked to Wicked), cable cars(b/c you're in SF) and great shopping and restaurants. We didn't rent a car this trip and we never felt we needed one. The place is just that great! Don't miss this one!

We loved this San Francisco apartment!
We loved this San Francisco apartment!
We just returned home from our stay at his beautiful San Francisco flat. It was beautifully decorated and quaint, complete with orginal mouldings and woodwork. The kitchen was totally updated with granite countertops and stainless appliances. The rooftop deck had an amazing view of San Francisco and the bridge. The best part about it was that this apartment is located in such a central location, close to transportation and attractions. We definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to visit San Francisco. We couldn't have asked for anything better!
