AMAZING Winter Park Ski Trip House

The house was awesome!! Nice and clean when we arrived and we recieved a full introduction to the house and were shown how everything works. Tons of parking available and the mudroom keeps everything dry and clean. Short drive to the Winter Park ski resort and Safeway and gas stations are super close as well. This house handles large groups with ease and everyone got their own bathroom. Gourmet kitchen, 2 huge dining tables, great views, speakers in every room with iPod hookup, and decks everywhere made dining in a blast. No need to leave the house if you don't want to. We watched coyotes play and hunt in the meadow and drove past 3 moose several times on the road below. House is huge, comfy, and warm, and the peace and quiet it offers is therapeutic. Would rent this house again anytime. Thanks for the great hospitality and great memories!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I have stayed at Craglough once or twice a year for the last 12 years and have never though of posting something on VRBO about how great Craglough is for getting away from our day-to-day world. First of all the house is fantastic with each bedroom with its own bathroom. Even when you stay with a group you still have the privacy of your own home. Second, the house design gives you great view from every room and the location of the mud room on the front side of the house keeps the house clean after a day of hiking. And finally, from Craglough's front door you can reach 100 trail heads either by walking up the road or a short car trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a magnificent home Craglough is! The views are spectacular and the rooms of the house are both comfortable and beautifully created. I was especially impressed that each bedroom had its own bathroom (such convenience!) and that there was plenty of room for an overflow crowd. Craglough was extremely clean and well-maintained – a great relief after some of the places in which I’ve stayed. I highly recommend Craglough for anyone wanting a gorgeous, comfortable, and relaxing get-away in the mountains of Colorado.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have visited the cralough house for 3 years in a row! We couldn't be happier! It a great house, very warm and cozy. A lot of space and comfort. We spent many nights relaxing in the outdoor hot tub, after a long day on the slopes. I definitely recommend visiting this house. I guarantee it's going to be an unforgettable experience for your family and friends.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Craglough House - What an amazing place! So welcoming, beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, a most comfortable home-from-home for our summer break in the mountains. We took advantage of all the superb amenities - hiking, biking, enjoying the outdoor hot tub. The several balconies with spectacular views were ideal for relaxing with a book, and al fresco dining. We look forward to visiting again and again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Most Charming Places I've Ever Stayed

Craglough House is one of the most charming places I've ever stayed. The views are lovely and many days we saw wildlife nearby -- deer, coyote, marmots. The house is beautifully appointed with unique artifacts from around the world. After a day of hiking in glorious fall weather (we were there in September) it was such a treat to come home to Craglough -- to soak in the hot tub, to play a round of billiards, to have a drink on one of the balconies, to visit with friends or read a book in front of the fire, to cook and eat in the spacious gourmet kitchen. It's my favorite place to vacation. The caretaker, is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with ideas and information about the area. I can't wait to go back!Did you find this review helpful? On the fourth of July this past year, we arrived at Craglough House near Tabernash, Colorado for a summer vacation in the Rockies. We could not have found a better base for our hiking and touring anywhere in the state. This magnificent house stands on a ridge overlooking the valley of the Fraser River, which drains into the Colorado. The house looks down upon the sweep of the valley, encircled by peaks reaching as high as fourteen thousand feet--we have never seen a more pleasing combination of valley and mountain from a private home. The views can be enjoyed from almost every room through broad, high windows, or from a variety of sun decks providing shade or sun as preferred depending on the time of day. The very modern house itself is bright and airy--high ceilings and whitewashed walls with rich wood paneling, accented by warm, golden-colored stone, with floors a combination of carpet-strewn wood and Mexican tile. Each individual room is decorated in its own distinctive style, with a subtly predominant Southwestern-Native American motif. In addition to the convenience of wide-screen televisions, wi-fi connection throughout, and shelf-upon-shelf of books, there is an outdoor whirlpool bath with a magnificent view of the valley, and a fully equipped, state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen unique among rental properties. A private winding mountain road leads to the main highway through the valley, with the town of Fraser and the winter-summer resort of Winter Park only minutes away to the left and Granby half an hour to the right--gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park. All of this only two hours from the Denver International Airport. If you are looking for an exceptional, next-to-perfect Colorado mountain home, as a base from which to explore that beautiful state or just a place to relax in elegant and comfortable style--or both--you could not do better than Craglough House. We look forward to many return visits in the years to come.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We want to tell you how much we are enjoying our stay here at your beautiful home. We were here with our kids. I was relaxing in the hot tub after snowshoeing the trails above your house, taking the Fraser River Trail down to the meadow, when 4 moose showed up. After grazing peacefully along the side of the house by the snowshoe tail, they ambled down to the meadow, going right past the anniversary "card" I had snow shoed into the fresh snow for my wife. The irony is we have a log home in Vermont's Green Mountains, where we have spent Christmas the past twelve years, surrounded by National Forest lands like this, and have NEVER seen a moose, just their tracks. We even named the house Moose Run! Craglough is just spectacular in every way, from it's beautiful setting to your amazing art works from around the world. One visitor yesterday described your collection as "exquisite" which indeed it is. We keep wondering about the timing of your building and furnishing it, as we see the great care and creativity that went into every nook and corner here, and notice that, e.g., the fireplace enclosures must be from east Asia? My personal favorites are the wonderful Kachinas here in the main living room...look like a museum collection! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home for this long holiday stretch.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had an absolutely wonderful time here for our family vacation. There were 13 of us ranging from age 6-82. The house was perfect. So many rooms to play in all with beautiful views. We loved watching the trains and the cows down in the meadow. So relaxing! The kitchen was fantastic. So big we could all eat and cook and still have plenty of room to move around. We had everything we needed in the house. Krista was great, very responsive and kind. Thanks!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner info
About the owner: Craglough House was built by Bill and Joyce Carpenter as their dream home. Joyce is a social worker in the Social Work Department at the University of South Florida. Bill is a professor and chairman of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The house is modeled on Cragside, a Victorian mansion in Northern England. David Elfring, a renown archtect, captured the spirit of Cragside but with modern conveniences.
Why the Owner Chose Tabernash:
Joyce and I fell in love with Colorado many years ago. We spent several years looking for the perfect spot. We found the current location in the early 1980s and then proceeded to buy all the land we could afford. By 1997, we had aquired 80 acres and then started house construction. Improving the road, bringing in electricity, telephone, and building the house were epic tasks. You will enjoy the products of the effort.
