Why the Owner Chose Tabernash

Joyce and I fell in love with Colorado many years ago. We spent several years looking for the perfect spot. We found the current location in the early 1980s and then proceeded to buy all the land we could afford. By 1997, we had aquired 70 acres and then started house construction. Improving the road, bringing in electricity, telephone, and building the house were epic tasks. You will enjoy the products of the effort.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The house overlooks Tabernash, so you do not feel isolated from civilization. Yet, you are on 70 private acres bordered by thousands of acres of national forest. Thus, you have a real sense of privacy. It is wonderful to hike, mountain bike, snowshoe, crosscountry ski, and fish in the Gold Medal Fraser Rive right out the door.

Owner's Map of Tabernash

Craglough House was built by Bill and Joyce Carpenter as their dream home. Joyce is a social worker in the Social Work Department at the University of South Florida. Bill is a professor and chairman of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The house is modeled on Cragside, a Victorian mansion in Northern England. David Elfring, a renown archtect, captured the spirit of Cragside but with modern conveniences.

Gorgeous locale for our wedding

Over nine years ago, my husband & I celebrated our wedding out in the driveway with the valley & mountains behind us & the house there to anchor the entire event. Our closest friends stayed with us over night & a number of our family joined us for the actual ceremony. Even after 9 years I feel like our wedding was so magical with a special setting. The house adds a special something to the memories. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with others so that they may add it to some of the happiest memories of their lives.

Wonderful Home

Our family stayed at Craglough House with 2 other familes for 5 days over Spring Break. The house was even better than the pictures and descriptions! The owners provide everything you could ever need and Krista was very helpful about explaining everything to us. We loved that everyone had their own space and no one felt crowded. My 16 year old son's favorite room was the study where he chose several books from the bookshelf and curled up to read in front of the fire after we came in from the slopes. We look forward to next year at Craglough House. Thank you Bill and Joyce for sharing your beautiful home with us!

What a lovely vacation/anniversary celebration we enjoyed in your wonderful home. Our entire family fell in love with Craglough and all were sad when it was their time to leave for the Denver airport. Keith and I stayed until Wednesday morning and truthfully, yours was the first home we have rented over the years that we didn't want to leave before our time was up. Everything was furnished and appointed beautifully, the kitchen was beyond compare and we couldn't have been more comfortable. So, thank you! Krista was very helpful and we appreciated the fact that she was there if we needed anything. Turned out we didn't, but we knew she would help if needed. Please feel free to use our comments. They just didn't say enough good about how comfortable we were. The design of your home was one of the best we've been in and we've been in many. How blessed you are to have this wonderful place to visit and eventually live in.

My husband and I shared your beautiful home with five other couples for a five-day vacation. The views of the surrounding mountains and fun with friends was made even more special by staying in this spectacular, yet warm and cozy home. We would all love to return one day. Thank you for making it available to us!

We stayed at the Craglough house over the Thanksgiving holiday. What a beautiful home! It had everything that we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving feast and easily accomodated our extended family. The views were amazing. The property felt very secluded, but was still close to everything we needed. Thank you Bill and Joyce for allowing us the opportunity to experience your dream home!

Craglough House was the perfect choice for our Ski Retreat slash Wedding Weekend. It was just magnificent... Everybody gasped as they came through the door. What a gorgeous house... beautiful location...breathtaking views and so nicely furnished and decorated... The master suite is huge with a sitting area ... and a balcony where we enjoyed our morning coffee looking out over the valley .....the dining room has a huge table that seats 12 - suitable for formal dining .....or just a great place to gather to play cards or table games... the kitchen also has a huge table to seat 12 more people....and off the kitchen is a "sun room" with huge windows and a balcony and more views. One of our guests is a chef... and he was amazed at how wonderfully the kitchen was equipped.... six burner stove...griddle... conventional and convection ovens... microwave... 2 sinks....dishwasher....2 coffee pots...and a fully stocked pantry...and one of those big fancy refrigerators that we only dream of about. There's a mud room for skiers to stow their gear and a billiards room....a laundry room...an outdoor hot tub...and something we'd never encountered on vacation... an indoor Sauna !! There were balconies off the ssun room the dining room, and the fireplace room....plus another off the master bedroom suite....to enjoy the views...you can see out across the valley...and all the mountains in the distance....skiers paradise. The bedrooms were huge and each had their own bathroom...and one even had a kitchenette...Also one of the bedrooms had 2 trundle beds....great for a bunch of kids...we housed the groomsmen in there. We spent a lot of time in the Living Room...just relaxing and talking.... We had our daughter's wedding ceremony in front of the fireplace...a perfect setting with the afternoon sunshine streaming through the windows. The house manager, Krista, took excellent care of us...she gave us a tour when we arrived and explained the appliances - heating thermostats - hot tub, laundry etc ...she was always available to answer any questions we had.... The owners get big kudos on how they have taken great pains to beautifully furnish Craglough House and make it a comfortable place for people to gather. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. Everybody said "let's have a reunion here!"

The Craglough is an amazing home! We enjoyed the beauty of the European decore as well as the breathtaking views that can be found off of all of the many decks. It comfortably slept 6 couples and had a gourmet kitchen is to die for. We are already planning our next trip!

My family and I stayed at Craglough House for Spring Break 2008. We had a lovely time exploring the wonderful surroundings in addition to skiing at the nearbye Winter Park (which was FANTASTIC). About a 20 minute drive to Winter Park, we liked the more secluded surroundings which enabled us to do other activities such as sledding and snow-shoeing without the crowds. The house itself is spacious and cozy at the same time, the furnishings being those of a casual mountain home, with some more formal touches. I stayed in the master suite on the top floor and loved the views and the cozy gas fireplace! I would recommend staying here if you have a larger group/family. I would however recommend having a 4 x 4 if you plan to be here in the winter months, the road leading to the house is cleared but can get icy. Finally, the owners and the on-site care-taker are very pleasant and accomodating. I highly recommend a stay here!

Owner response:The road has been regraded. There should be no problems now.
