Imagine having seven acres of beautiful country scenery and still be able to walk to the village for fresh croissants in the morning. That's exactly why we fell in love with our place in Epeigne-les-Bois: our former watermill house is over 150 yrs old and situated on a beautiful, hilly property, but it is mere yards from the charming center of an 11th-century village. You'll be close enough to hear the church bells, but still experience the delights of a truly rural location. Epeigne-les-Bois features an 11th-century church, cafe, post office, and a small grocery store--excellent for fresh bread, croissants, and other basics.
The guest house overlooks the old millrace, which leads up to the main house, built in the early 1800's in the "Maison d'Maitres" style. Beyond the millrace is open field and woods. You may explore the property, which is bordered by a small river. Have coffee on your terrace in the morning, or simply enjoy the view from your elevated porch. Two barns and other interesting outbuildings offer a glimpse of French country life in another century.
Your house features a newly-refurbished full bath and kitchen. Cooks will be thrilled with the many local open-air markets; we particularly recommend Loches and Montrichard. For everyday needs, there are also two supermarkets nearby. Cultural activities abound, and the Loire Valley features many good local wineries and fromageries. Restaurants range from reasonably-priced and excellent pizzerias to fabulous chateaux. |
