5BR Fabulous 40-Mile Mountain View - Great for Families

Year Purchased: 2006

Why the Owner Chose Clayton

Our family vacationed annually in Clayton for eight years. We love the Clayton area and each year talked of purchasing property and building our own mountain home. Our criteria were: a great view, privacy, and convenient to town. We found the perfect piece of property which has an amazing view of a lovely country club in the valley and beautiful layers of mountains for forty miles beyond. It is private; we cannot see nor hear a neighbor, and it is only nine minutes down the mountain into downtown Clayton! Since we knew we would be renting it to other vacationers, we made our home a five-bedroom to accommodate larger families or groups, equipped it with all we had ever needed on our vacations, and furnished it to be attractive yet comfortable. The building of our home was finished in 2006, but it was not completely furnished until late 2007. Our dream of a vacation home in the mountains was finally realized. We first began receiving guests in 2008.

The Unique Benefits at this Mountain Home

When we spend time at GrandView, we can totally unwind. In the mornings, we sit on the porch rockers on the deck drinking coffee while watching the sunrise over the gorgeous Smoky Mountains. At night, we love sitting around the fire pit enjoying our family while roasting hot dogs and making s'mores. Or, if it's really cold, we stay indoors listening to favorite CD's in front of the stacked-stone fireplace or watch some of our favorite DVDs/videos. Because we have plenty of space, we can all have as much privacy or together-time as we want. Some of our favorite places to eat out: Mama G's Italian Restaurant, The Stockton House, the historical downtown Clayton Cafe, Clayton Pharmacy's Old-Fashioned Soda Shoppe, Oinkers BBQ, La Cabana Authentic Mexican Restaurant, Rumor Haz It Casual Grille & Spirits, Fromage (for lunch), and of course, the famous Dillard House. Some of our favorite things to do: waterfalls (Minnehaha Falls is our favorite and is located along a wonderful drive), the Tiger Winery, Kingwood Golf and Country Club for golfing and spa treatments, downtown shopping (we never miss Reeve's Hardware - it is so much more than a hardware store), hiking, daytrips to Highlands and Helen, trout fishing, whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River, antiquing, and the open-air market on week-ends. We love the festivals and events: Celebrate Clayton (April), Mountain Lakes Classic Antique Show (June), 4th of July Celebration, Dillard Backyard BBQ and Bluegrass Festival (August), Georgia Wine Highway Week-end (mid-December), Christmas in Clayton, and many more. There is so much to do in the area that we never have enough time to do it all!

We are a family of five with three sons - two teenagers and one college-age. My husband is a dentist, and I work with him in his practice. We live in Venice, Florida, a lovely coastal town in southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.

    • Ms. Tami, Your Grandview home and location on top of the mountain was absolutely a delight. The view was beautiful. We were thrilled with the outdoor pit and sat around the fire playing the banjo and singing songs in the fresh, cool mountain air. We difinitely will be back. The house was very comfortable and homey, and was perfect for our group. The driveway was a thrill each time we drove up and down.(At least for some of us.)

    • GrandView was perfect for our girls trip in October, there were twelve of us in the group and the house offered everything we needed. We highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a fantastic view, private setting, clean, beautifully furnished and only minutes from downtown Clayton. The homeowner is a pleasure to deal with, she was helpful, suggesting restaurants and other sights to see in the area.....which made our stay absolutely delightful. Thanks, Tami!

    • Your beautiful home was a perfect fit for the 12 of us girls on our annual weekend get-away. What a great place to make new memories! Awesome views!! We had a blast sitting around the fire pit in the evenings talking & laughing. We even roasted marshmallows one night... yummy S'mores. The house is so well equipped... felt like home. We hope to spend more time at your place in the future. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

    • Tami, your home was everything you said and more. My family felt "at home" and we had a wonderful time. Since your kitchen was so efficient,we prepared too much food, and of course, ate too much. The views were beautiful. The bedrooms were spacious and private enough so that if the young mothers wanted to catch a well deserved nap no problem. Thank you so much for letting my family visit and enjoy your beautiful home. God Bless you and your family. Susan

What a wonderful trip we had during Spring Break, along with our friends from Kentucky who stayed with us at GrandView. Thank you so much for opening up your home to us. We loved spending time all over the house and outside by the fire pit. We made s'mores and shot hoops. We looked at the moon through the telescope, and even played in the snow. We visited Tallulah Falls and Minnehaha Falls. What beautiful places! It was an amazing vacation!

    • This was our second year at GrandView, and we found it hard to believe that we all (grandparents, parents, grandchildren) enjoyed this year even more than last. From the minute we entered the house, we felt very much at home. The decor was still beautiful, the house was in tip top condition, the kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil, pot, pan, dish, china, flatware--I won't go on, but we baked pies, made blueberry pancakes, created huge salads in the kitchen. A few nights, we roasted hotdogs and created Smores at the firepit. Every morning but one, we had breakfast on the deck looking over the forty mile view. Some played golf. (One day, we watched a few holes from our deck through the provided telescope.) Children (from 2 to 19) roamed the surrounding woods, went gem mining, checked out the Goat Farm for rocks, fudge and ice cream. We visited friends, and had more than sufficient room for eight friends to spend an afternoon with us at the house in great comfort in the upstairs great room, while the children played in the lower level's great room. I highly recommend the home, the mountain, and the town for anyone looking for a vacation in the mountains. Nights are cool, days are warm, and there are many attractions close by. We have visisted the area every year for 12 years, and the GrandView is our favorite by far. The owners are friendly and responsive. We very much appreciate the care they have taken to provide us with this lovely home away from home.

    • We would like to thank you Mrs. Tammi for an experience to remember. When we opened up the door and saw the Grand View for the first time, our thoughts were "wow, this is better than the pictures." We was very impressed with the decor of the home, the cleanliness, and the warmth that the house gave. We also want to thank you for all of your help in trying to assure that we were going to have a good time during our family vacation/wedding anniversary. We also appreciated your courtesy calls. Please don't ever stop being so hospitable and sweet in your character. I am truly looking forward to coming back again and again! Thanks so much!

We had a great time in Clayton! Your home was absolutely wonderful! We found it to have all the amenities from home. You were so thoughtful to provide all the extra items that made our stay more enjoyable. I attached a picture of the kids enjoying the backyard fire pit. I am so grateful that we opted to stay in your home instead of cramming into hotel rooms. We had bikes and car top carriers for our next stop. We stored the bikes in your garage and left the car top carriers in place. Your home is so private and secure; we had no cause to worry. It was an easy and scenic drive to our WildWater Rafting excursion on the Chatooga River. Our families found the area full of friendly folks and plenty of unique eateries. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and comfortable home.
