Location: Beaver Island, Northwest, Michigan, USA (Charlevoix-30 miles by water)
Accommodations: Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 3-6)
Keywords: Cabin
Get Away to an unspoiled natural environment where several eagle sitings daily are common. A place that has been virtually untouched and unspoiled, that is Beaver Island. Our cabin (Eagle's Rest) is situated 100 feet from Lake Michigan on a 10 acre Parcel. The views of Lake Michigan and High Island are spectacular!
Getting to Beaver Island: The first stop is Charlevoix, MI, a Lake Michigan harbor city located approx 250 miles north of Detroit. You can also fly into Pelston or Traverse City airports and connect to Ferry or Island Airways in Charlevoix. From Charlevoix take a quick 20 minute flight or the 2 hour leisurely ferry ride on the Emerald Isle. Either way, it's an amazing adventure!
When you arrive on the island you will find a place that will take you back in time. Slow, patient, friendly and Beautiful! You might want to stop at the Shamrock for a beverage after the ferry ride or take the scenic 20 minute drive straight out to Eagle's Rest. Distance is measured by time on the Island, most of the roads have not been paved...it's just another way to make you slow down!
When you reach Eagle's Rest the drive in is through a wooded pathway into a vast open area with scattered trees along the perimeter. Eagle's Rest was built in 2004, and is very charming, with spectacular views of Lake Michigan and High Island. It is 900 sq. feet including the loft, has a great front porch and slate patio overlooking the lake. All furnishings are new or local antiques. Eagle's Rest has electricity and running water, the toilet is in the new "old fashioned" outhouse, there is an outdoor shower with cold and hot running water (and a shower curtain for privacy). It is the renter's responsibility to bring their own sheets and towels. Eagle's Rest has a charming decor with an open layout which includes 14 large Anderson windows, many are floor to ceiling overlooking Lake Michigan. There is one large loft with 2 single beds. The main floor has a comfortable pull out couch. It's perfect for a family of 4-6.
You may enjoy a good book overlooking Lake Michigan, walk the miles of sandy beach, take a swim in the clear lake water, explore the island and over 100 miles of roads and trails, kayak using the 2 kayaks provided, go for a bike ride using the 2 bikes provided, fish on one of the 5 inland lakes, roast marshmallows in the fire pit on the beach, admire the vast array of stars, discover some of the other islands in the Archipelego, visit the spa for a massage, play nine at the Beaver golf course, lounge on the patio, cocktails at Nina's, Donnegal Bay to enjoy the sunset, visit the CMU Biological center, or the 2 lighthouses on the island, Little Sand Bay, Iron Ore Bay or simply do Nothing! This is a vacation you will never forget and leave feeling truly rested.

My husband & I went during Labor Day to run the Big Beaver half marathon. Communication with Gerry was prompt and professional. Couldn't of asked for better weather to soak up the rays and enjoy the scenery. Semi rustic cabin great for the adventurous type. It's about 20 minutes from downtown (or Shamrocks Bar). Gorgeous view of the lake, but there's no beach to walk along - very marsh but nice looking. Giant fire pit to cozy to and even cook. There's grates to put on top of it to cook food. If that's not your fancy a charcoal grills provided too. Plenty of chairs for company to sit on outside as well. Out house about 200ft away from the cabin - very clean. Inside it's cozy enough for 4 max I'd say. Plenty of kitchen supplies & utensils to make a nice feast. 3 bikes provided but just for some leisurely riding. Showers outside just enough to get you clean and a beautiful view of the outdoors while you suds up. There's 2 kayaks to use, but we didn't use them. The people on the island are so hospitable. We're definitely coming back!

Before our arrival the cabin owners were very helpful and prompt in answering questions. Upon our arrival we found a gorgeous quiet well maintained site. The shower with hot water and well-supplied kitchen exceeded our expectations. We spent many memorable hours sitting in the Adirondack chairs next to a fire with an unbeatable view of sky and water.

We couldn't of asked for a more perfect vacation! If you like the outdoors this is the perfect place for you! The sunset from around the firepit is better than any postcard! The cabin was beautiful and the surrounding area was perfect for our two kids ages 12 and 8 and our dogs. Everyone on the Island gave a wave or a smile while passing. People working in the little shops would talk and talk to you about the area and fill you in on the hot spots to be sure to see. The Kayaks gave many hours of fun! While we rode the bikes we saw lots of deer, beavers, rabbits, snakes, hawks, chipmunks, frogs, wild turkeys and ducks. We met a couple guys from the family that owns the place and they were as nice as can be! Even offered to let us borrow their canoe but we had so much fun with the kayaks provided we ran out of time and didn't take them up on the offer. It was just a beautiful place and every morning I'd sit out back with my cup of coffee just taking in the wonderful setting. One morning I did see and eagle. I can't say enough about what a great cabin it was and what nice people the family members/owners were even calling us when we got home to make sure we had a good time and ask if anything was wrong with the place. We have been all over the US and have never been better taken care of. Bring lot's of bug spray and just enjoy nature here! There was never a boring moment on our trip. The "backyard" was our playground and kept us busy the whole week!
